I would like to teach starting with Genesis, but I'm afraid the kids will take it wrong. I feel they need to know how it really happened. I wonder if most people do, but are uncomfortable to talk about it.

Tell them that because of Adam, he chose to sin against God by eating the forbidden fruit. Adam then hid his sin from God, and blamed it on Eve. The same thing now happens to humanity. We sin, we try to hide it from God, and we don't blame ourselves. It's because we want to be in control of our lives, and we want to be our own gods. It's the same reason why there is death, disease, and war in the world.

First off, welcome to our forum. I don't know anything about you, but Genesis is a good place to start as the whole bible is based on that foundation. However, that being said, most so-called Christians do not understand what Genesis teaches. You have the right idea, but I hope you know about that book. The book in my signature (Judah's Sceptre Joseph's Birthright) is a start. This book is a gift from the Lord IMO. (I also have the entire bible in HTML including the apocrypha). Start reading the book from J H Allen. If this sounds totally alien to you, then you are NOT READY to teach on Genesis and may even contribute to erroneous doctrine, even though you mean well.

For the kids, the objective/goal should be to learn about Jesus of the NEW Testament. Genesis is good for BACKGROUND, but an in-depth study is too academic for young minds. First they should get well grounded in the lovingkindness of God, the eternal life made possible by His son, and the Godly behavior that can be learned from God's spirit if we have a contrite (pure) heart. The bible is the "word of TRUTH" (2 Timothy 2:15, Ephesians 1:13, John 14:6). They must first learn to have a passion for objective truth (2 Thessalonians 2:10, "AND SO BE SAVED"). By reading the bible (the word "bible" is not found in scripture, it is simply man's designation for scripture) they will be learning the elementary/introductory doctrine of Jesus (Hebrews 6:1), and must eventually move on to maturity in Christ (deeper relationship) and learn the "depths" of God (1 Corinthians 2:10), but never stop reading and discovering truths in scripture. When the spirit of God teaches us to divide between right and wrong/evil so that the change from good to evil is sudden/abrupt (as a sword would divide, James 1:17), the kids will learn the "SWORD OF THE SPIRIT" (Ephesians 6:17, the word of God that we should LIVE BY) so their conscience can be purified (Hebrews 9:14). Having a Godly spirit is our GUARANTEE of eternal life (2 Corinthians 1:22 and 5:5, Ephesians 1:14). John the Baptist baptized with 'H2O', but they need to be baptized in their heart with the SPIRIT of God (John 1:33) and have "rivers of living water" (sorrow compassion, John 7:38, Revelation 7:16) and live according to the law of liberty (James 1:25 and 2:12) because the 'sin laws were abolished (Ephesians 2:15). The "living water" sought by the person at the well (John chapter 4) also flowed from Christ's side at the cross. We should "WALK BY THE SPIRIT" (Galatians 5:16 and 25) and learn a "MORE EXCELLENT WAY" (1 Corinthians 12:31) in order to learn the "better things" that belong to salvation (Hebrews 6:9) and do the "works of God" (John 6:28 and 29) showing NO PARTIALITY (no special treatment) to anyone (James 2:9). We are "justified IN Christ" (Galatians 2:16 and 17) and in Jesus is the WHOLE fullness of God (Colossians 2:9, "God is ONE", Galatians 3:20). Everything before the spirit was given (John 7:39) is not the way the NEW Testament Christian should worship in spirit and truth (Bereans, parables, ancient scriptures and practices are not NEW covenant, Mark 4:11).These understandings have hardly EVER been taught all throughout history because humanity (including Christianity has always had the "strong delusion" doctrines of the heart, Ezekil 14:4-8 (the KJV correctly translates the word "according"). There should be no "self abasement" (Colossians 2:18 and 23) because a true sense of SELF is necessary for SELF-discipline (repentance) and a truly PERSONal relationship with Jesus (He also wants to have a personal relationship with us, James 4:5).The "hirelings" (John 10:13) have never been careful that we "enter by the door" (John 10:1), but we should "HEAR" The Lord's voice (John 10:27). We should be transformed by the renewal of THE MIND (Romans 12:2) and "live quietly" (not as busybodies, 1 Thessalonians 4:11) and have a PERSONAL faith of their own (not an IDENTICAL faith (Romans 14:22, 1 Corinthians 15:28) and should not neglect their conscience in their relationship (1 Timothy 1:19).Be careful which versions of scripture they read, many modern versions have been corrupted (no version is discrepancy free).

I agree I think starting on the New Testament is the best way to go. Genesis is a very hard book to teach and although if you go into depth with it, it is very interesting, but I think most kids will think they know it all and will not pay attention. If you teach the New Testament and they learn to know Jesus there outlook on Genesis will change and they might be ready for it at a later stage.I think the best place to start off children and new Christians is the gospels and of course the letters from Paul. When they are secure in the New Testament you can start teaching on the old testament which they will be more interested in by such time.
