If we talked on the phone...you would hear it...and you could do your imitations, and I will tell you if you are as good as you say! :D

Hugs ...H
I have often wanted to hear you speak, our friends from Australia as well! Maybe we could exchange numbers in P.M. one night and have a little chat! I believe my service is free in the US and Canada!

Helen have you still got a British accent, or do you have a Canadian accent, or a mixture of the two ?

I "thought" that we had lost the accent....but the other day I was asked if we had just moved here. We've been here for 43 yrs LOL

I thought my daughters had lost theirs , they were 12 and 14 when we moved here. ( now both mid fifties)
My grand daughter got married and my daughter spoke at the wedding...we chuckled to ourselves...she sounded as if she was giving the Queens speech. :D Obviously, when my girls are nervous, they revert back to "English speak" lol It doesn't seem to leave us!!

( but we do use Canandian/US phrases and words etc. We don't say Dustbin, we say trash can. etc etc..)

Sometimes accents seem to hover someplace over the Azores....
Oh, my step-father did not hover over, but grew up in the Azores. He learned to speak English in the US Army in WWII, but he never lost that strong Portuguese accent. :)

I guess if you have always lived in England and have a British accent?

Sometimes accents can be strong; sometimes neutral, and shades in between.

Lol we do not have dustbins anymore Helen, we now have wheelie bins and call it rubbish !!!!!

Haha!! Well that just shows how long I have been gone from there.
They were still Dustbins when we left...and it was dustmen who collected them. But now they are something refuge technicians or something just as stupid. LOL
Come over and visit us Rita. Save you pennies. ( do you still have them now? We don't here.

But a Brit who was raised on marmite and marmalade will never change from that!
It was Dave's birthday at the weekend..my daughter gave him some Kippers with his present...it's about 15 years since he found some of those over here. :D
Thankfully we do have a "British Pantry" here, who will bring over anything that we would like.....at a price!

Hi Helen
They are called refuge collectors - I sadly think it would take me too long to save my pennies, I have cousins out in Canada that I would love to see again- would need to have a large win on a lottery !!!!
Dan was telling me that marmite is not popular in the USA! Is that the same in Canada ?
I prefer marmalade - and I do like kippers !
Pennies, well we have the one pence and the two pence coins now, but that is not the same as the old penny ( pre decimal ) what year did you go to Canada ?

Ha, "wheelie bins"...you guys/gals are so cute, lol.
You mean they don't have wheelie bins in the USA - Europe has them, they are sooooo much better than dustbins. ( so would that be trash bins , or something like that over there ) We have one for the recycling as well , and I have one for the garden rubbish too !

I remember when I was in London for Christmas of 1969 [on vacation from school in West Berlin] they were in the process of changing their money to the decimal system. When I paid for anything requiring someone to give me change I simply trusted them. Someone had figured out a stepped change from the one system to the other and in the midst of it anyone from elsewhere, like me, was in the midst of confusion. In the long run likely it was be easier at the end, but I have never returned to see the final result.

You mean "refuse" don't you?

That does not mean that the UK is not collecting bogus refugees calling themselves "refuge technicians". Or that the UK government is not producing more refuse than anything of value. But they will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

Hahahaha!! I love it when we catch me out, like that...I need to laugh more than I do. I worry too much as a rule. ( but better than I was.)

1) Now, did no one else notice that? 2) Or was everyone else just too polite to point it out.

Once again Enoch , Well caught :)

Where do your cousins live Rita?
You could get a two for one trip out of it...if they are here in the West.

No, Dan is probably right, none of my American friends or Canadian's friends come to that...like Marmite.
I guess a person must be born and raised on it to appreciate it.
Both my girl were also 'Marmite babies'. Boiled egg, toasted 'soldiers' with Marmite before school. :)

They used to have pots of Bisto also like that.
I remember how I loved the advert on the walls of the tube stations when I was small. The boy and the girl pointy noses ...both saying:- " Aah...Bisto" ( and a cup of steaming Bisto between them)
Boy, that is a blast from the past.

Here is a picture of the kids, but its the wrong one..their noses aren't pointed even...and the other were not full bodies.
