I recently just got done talking with somebody who told me she prayed and got nothing in return. She was like I got baptized first,I even went to church. I said God does not care that you were baptized first,or even went to Church. Does this sound mean. But it is true. He cares what is in your heart. She said she is going to quit going because of the fact God gave her nothing. See when we pray well some people,we expect God to give us everything or just to be there. We do not give God the time nor credit that he knows what he is doing. There is no time-line God follows in prayer answers. For all you know he has answered. God has given us everything. It hurts to see "'"CHRISTIANS""" turning away because god didn't give her/him something in RETURN/ But he HAS.

People expect God will bless them. In fact, this is untrue. A LOT of todays Christians believe that God is entitled to keeping them safe while they live on with their lives. The fact of the matter is that God brought us on earth to give Him glory. If we do not carry our own cross, then God does not have to do anything.Real Christians seek for what they can do for God, not what God can do for them.

God has let alot of martyrs die some terrible deaths, even His own flesh. I really am sorry that more Christians do not seem get it. God does not want us to serve our flesh with filthy lucre, and in all honesty probably doesn't care if you get that promotion at work. He breaks your chains of sin sets you free and anoints your eyes with the truth. After this you serve Him alone. But if you truly get it then remember these things and you can't go wrong because they are The Truth:Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you Really all my desires are for the next world, unless it means someones salvation in this one. God has blessed me with much in life though I've given up alot for Him I find more with Him. God is my strength and the name of the Lord is a strong tower that I run to for shelter.

My desires are to know God's will for me. I'd give up everything to follow Him into missionary work, etc. It might be hard, but after a lot of praying, I will do it. First, I need to actually speak to God. That's what I'm working on right now.

This sort of implies that christians cannot expect things from God. God tells us he will bless us. Thats what I run off of everyday! the comfort God gives me.

If you're a Christian for the sole reason of God blessing you, then you are selfish. You've gotta give a little to receive a little.

It's actually a matter of giving up on life in general. I've seen the wickedness in my delights as well as my burdens and wish no more. I seek contentment, I am poor and have forsaken people as well as material sickness in the name of Jesus. I wish I could help many and could treat all men like royalty for a day but it's not about my works thank God. But if it is, just teaching His Word is storing me up a treasure in Heaven. Are you spiritual minded? God wishes us to worship as a spirit and I can tell you that God is omnipotent and your heart is wide open to Him every second of every day. He desires a heart that seeks to know Him, but first we must humble ourselves by stepping out of the carnal realm. Every man has a direct line to God through Jesus Christ but you must believe it because faith is a requirement, and because the Bible tells us it's so. Why would anyone dispute the Word of God? Not only did God create us He hears every prayer made in the name of His son Jesus Christ. I suggest you read Psalms and Proverbs to know who the Lord is and what He is and just what He wants from us.That's where I started but it's not the same in every case. What is the same is it's the Holy Spirit that we must pray for in order to get understanding. God bless you.

I've pretty much have the same mindset as you do. I wish I could just go minister in some foreign country, and just leave all of my troubles and worries to God. But it's a matter of what God wants me to do. Unlike some of the people in these forums, I believe in the gift of tongues. And that through prayer in tongues, the Holy Spirit fixes our bodies and gets us ready for things through edification (things like healing, prophecy, resurrection, etc.).

God answered my prayers. I have a testimony but it's long. If you wanna hear it it's awesome. But long story short I am following Jesus and living with my family again. Praying everyday that He saves them just as He has me, because I've gotta tell you we don't see things eye to eye. But ultimately I know that they will be saved because I've seen the power of prayer and it is real. God hears the sinners and the saints but to really have your prayers answered and receive His blessings you must repent and seek Him in scripture as a child in the Spirit, once we come to repentance and are free from sin we can see God and know Him as long as we keep and love His commandments. We must be diligent in our prayers for the Holy Spirit but we all who believe and keep and love His commandments and instruction will receive it.

Prayer isn't giving God orders... prayer is reporting for duty. Now, serve the Lord, and I believe then you will be blessed.(This is what I would say).

God tells us IN SCRIPTURE (His 'word' that we should LIVE BY is the "sword of the spirit", Ephesians 6:17) that a TRUE worshipper (John 4:23) will INTERACT (conversational) with Him (Isaiah 1:18, James 3:17) with Him instead of "pray TO" Him.Many people choose to align themselves with Christian beliefs (partisanship) and simply PRAY TO (talk at) God so that God can be their 'sugardaddy'. In other words, the only reason they relate to God at all is to get whatever they can out of God (including HOPE for eternal life, 1 Corinthians 13:13).Whether God answers the prayer by giving exactly what was asked for, it is no indication of a final destiny in the city of God (Revelation 22:19).Paul said that whatever God decided to graciously give him (without REQUIRING of/petitioning Him) was COMPLETELY sufficient for him (TRUE worshippers will feel the same, sorry, this is where the 'gravy train' ends). God is aware of what every person NEEDS (it's up to each person to decide to REST in The Lord as though God's grace is sufficient for them). It is important to find God's grace as sufficient because we are SAVED BY GRACE.If a person wants nothing to do with God because their "sugardaddy" didn't do what they want, good riddance. God is not a 'book', God is not a 'religion' or a 'faith', God is not a 'tool/sugardaddy' or a 'MASTER' of 'servants', He is "ABBA FATHER" of a "FRIEND of God" (James 2:23).If a person has love in their heart AND MIND (Romans 12:2), they will not only have a strong preference (passion) for truth (2 Thessalonians 2:10) and speak in no uncertain terms (let your yes be yes, no 'ifs' 'ands' or 'buts') because they are (IF they are) "good and right and true" (Ephesians 5:9) in their behavior/lifestyle and LOVE (not simply "FAITH") God UNCONDITIONALLY. Scripture (the word "bible" is not in scripture) is the "word of TRUTH" (2 Timothy 2:15, Ephesians 1:13, John 14:6) and is only the INTRODUCTORY doctrine of Jesus (Hebrews 6:1), but we should MOVE ON (grow) in our relationship to Jesus (our relationship should become more INTIMATE and our love should be made PERFECT, 1 John 4:18, Isaiah 29:13 NO FEAR of God, ONLY 'unconditional' love). Most people who call themselves Christian will not find it attractive to be a true worshipper (each person's chosen "God" is the same as they themselves are) and choose to believe they can redeem their own conscience (Hebrews 9:14).The "strong delusion" has been present all throughout history because we refuse to love objective truth (choosing instead subjective/biased truth. That is why Pilate referred to objective truth as being irrelevant to humanity (John 18:38, strange, Pilate wasn't a philosopher, but God constructed/planned all events in scripture this way).Christianity has been reading scripture all throughout history but still has no idea that the water that flowed from Christ's side at the cross was the "living water" (John 7:38, Revelation 7:16) because the "strong delusion" of believing that we are 'worthy' of a REWARD (rather than humbly accept God's GRACE) was always more FLATTERING to us.All verses are from the RSV.http://cf.blueletterbible.org/search/trans...hbor&t=RSV&sf=5

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head. A lot of atheists I'm sure love to hear stories like the subject of this thread so that they "prove" there is no God. However, this situation is clearly another example of what I call the brat in the fast food line. He screams and hollers that he wants his food NOW! to the dismay of the other patrons waiting in line in front of him. You see, to some people it's all about ME ME ME and they defiantly say to God, "If you cared or love me you'd....." and then they set THEIR conditions. It's the same with marriage. This is one reason why many don't last these days and divorce is rampant when the spouse is supposed to revolve around themselves like the old theory that the sun revolved around the earth.Of course, if God was as egocentric and narcissistic as these doubters are, then if he'd answer their prayers God would be contributing to the evil in the world, the very thing they wonder why there is so much of and why God does not do something about it! In other words, the problem is most definitely in the mirror.

You said that very well. Some don't have the patience and others don't realize that because we don't always get what we want that He is watching over us and knows what is best.
