JonahThere many life lessons in the Book of Jonah its not just a childrens story. Jonah’s story teaches us about obedience, willingness of spirit, gratitude, compassion and God’s patience and mercy. Jonah was a prophet from Galilee and his story takes place somewhere between 780 B.C and 760 B.C. During this period of history, Assyria was a powerful, evil nation and Israel’s most dreaded enemy. The Lord spoke to Jonah and told him to go to Nineveh, the capital of Assyria, and preach to the Ninevites. (Jonah 1:2) Jonah was supposed to warn the Ninevites to repent or suffer the consequences of their wickedness. As the story goes Jonah is soon swalled by a large fish sent by the Lord from the belly of the fish Jonah cries out to GodJonah 2:2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, [and] thou heardest my voice.Jonah 2:3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.Jonah 2:4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy templeJonah spends three days and three nights in the belly of the fish This should bring to the readers mind that Jesus also spent three days in the tomb. This is known as a type i.e. simular too, performing actions that resemble, Jonah was a type of Jesus. Now pay attention here I did not say Jonah was Jesus.Rather a type or performing an act or acts simular to him that would comeTeaching by types is a common theme thoughout the bible The book of Jonah has many lessons for us and this is a commonly overlooked one Read the little book of Jonah again with this type of Jesus thought in your mindThen, the Lord tells Jonah again to go to Nineveh and preach repentance. Imagine being Jonah, walking into a city of your enemies and preaching a message that is bound to be unpopular. It would be terrifying! Could this not have also been how Jesus felt at times ? But, Jonah this time does as he’s told and amazingly the people repent. The king orders all to fast, put on sackcloth and beg for forgiveness. (Jonah 2:1-10)

And it is true today as well Kriss. The Word of God, is so highly unpopular. Yet all the lies in this world is being so popular, it's sickening.

I just read some more on Jonah . Jonah 4 talks about how Jonah got mad at God for sparing Ninevites. I thought to myself" God just spared your life !"So was Jonah mad at God because he didn't like the Ninevites.and wish God had killed them.?Or was He mad at God for not keeping His word?

I think a little of both lookin4ward I think he is taking all the credit for this thing he has done upon himself is angry about doing it and he angry at God also Jonah's words shows he had no idea of God's overall plan of Nineveh, nor for the souls of their people. Poor Jonah is a little thick headed, in his rebellion against God.Jonah 4:3 " Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech Thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live."Jonah still doesn't get it! without the miracle of the fish, not one person in Nineveh would have listened to anything that Jonah would have said. God prepared the way, and the minds of the people of Nineveh to accept the warning. When Jonah arrived they were looking for Him, and his message.Jonah thinks it was only his action and words that did it, now he is crying because of this thing he has done. Jonah 4:4 "Then said the LORD, "Doest thou well to be angry?"It's good for you to get all shook up, Jonah, so you think that you made a mistake?Jonah 4:5 "So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city."Jonah didn't do any follow-up work with his preaching. As soon as he was done, he ran out of town, away from the river, and made a hut to protect himself from the sun; and Jonah waited. Jonah sat and waited to see the city fail.Poor Jonah had no idea in the world what God would work in the minds of the people. When you sow the seeds, it is God that germinates that seed, and causes it to grow.A common mistake we humans make

It is just beautiful, isn't it? Remember that Satan does quite the opposite of that. And we also must be careful (at least the staff and some members) what we are teaching as well.If we teach the wrong stuff, then Satan come in... which I hate him.
