If that were true we would already be in the New Heavens and the New Earth.

Unfortunately, that is simply Preterist fantasy. The sun, moon, stars, and planets are still where they belong, and every mountain and island is still in its proper place.
You think it is speaking of the literal sun, moon, and stars, the heavenly bodies?
You think for example when it says the stars fall to the earth it is literal, like the end of the world?

You had better believe it. All the heavenly bodies will be shaken and removed, after which God will establish the New Heavens and the New Earth. The sun will be replaced by the New Jerusalem, which will give light to the earth while it remains a heavenly body.

The displacement of the heavenly bodies is mentioned in connection with the Day of the LORD in the OT, and with the Great Tribulation in all three Synoptic Gospels, 2 Peter, and Revelation.

Have you never noticed that God has used the same language several times in the ot. And it was not literal sun, moon, and stars....look at isa13:1-10 isa34:4 Joel 2-3..it spoke of governments being replaced, Babylon, idumea/ edom. Zeph1:14,15 gen37:9
There were many day of the Lord judgements.
I was taught the pre mill system first, I can still teach it, but I do not think it is the most biblical.

Yes it is literal, there is nothing to make one interpret it otherwise.

Doug in post 23 those verses show it was not literal as far as the actual sun, moon and stars
Could you answer the 4 sections of scripture I mentioned and explain how the heavens rolled up like a scroll.

There were many day of the Lord judgements.

Isiah 13:1-10 is speaking of the day of the Lord after the tribulation
Isiah 34:4 see verse 8 ...again it is the day of the Lord
Joel see 2:11 again the day of the Lord

I have not studied out everything here but there seems also to be current admonitions to existing conditions and nations as well. There could be a present warning along with a future one.

I have no comment about the heavens being rolled up...it says what it says...I am not sure what the objection is.....there will be a new heavens and earth.

Hello Doug, Isaiah 13 is speaking of what happened to Babylon in History. life as they knew it was changed, same with isa34.it has nothing to do with our day, but it happened to Edom., Joel 2 happened on pentecost...see why it is an issue. You need to do some homework.

Isiah 13 was a warning to Babylon for the future.
It was fulfilled when the Medes and Persians captured Babylon, but the prophecy went beyond that to the Day of the Lord which is still future.

Acts 2:16 does state that Pentecost fulfilled prophecy of Joel, which it did, however it was not all fulfilled. In Acts 2 Israel still could have repented and turned to Christ and the last days events would have proceeded. The kingdom of heaven on earth would have been ushered in and given to Israel.
