It is more complex than that.
As James said you have faith, while I show my faith by my works.
How do you know that 'C' is a Christian? We know by how they live, by there works, there obedience to Jesus and this is copied by the nonchristian into salvation by works.

The false gospel of works is linked to the false gospel of only believe/have faith.

We need to challenge our preachers to preach that faith in Jesus produces works prompted by Love and that this love for and of Jesus includes head knowledge, bible biased brains as Romans 12v1+2 puts it.
It's good to read Ephesians 2.8-10 in its entirety.

Law requires obedience. Grace produces a change of heart that produces good works. Forced good works = sin (wrong motive). Genuine good works from a born again heart = righteousness.

John 16:33 KJV
[33] These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Tecarta Bible PremiumAll need to be crystal clear on this. The peace Jesus is referring to here in this verse is rest. I rest in the works that God works through me.

John 6:28-29 KJV
[28] Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? [29] Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

What we say: God has given every person a choice to accept him or reject him. Those who reject him will suffer in hell forever. Those who accept him will enjoy heaven forever. The choice is yours.

What sinners hear: God is a bully who will torture me forever if I don’t say “uncle”. But if I say “uncle”, I can really make out forever if it's really true. I guess it’s worth the risk. Better to be insured than not.

The true gospel however is an announcement about salvation for all who can believe in Christ. Followed by the gift of the Holy Spirit through repentance and baptism.

Have never been able to follow this logic.

If only those who are born again prior to accepting Christ (grace) can have faith enough to believe to be saved, and that is done entirely of God's sovereign election due to Total Depravity, then how can you say every person has a choice? Only those God chooses (elects) to make born again even have a choice. In theory. But if Irresistible Grace exists, how can we say that even the Elect have a true choice?? Would an Elect born again (by God) person ever choose not to have faith? Could they even??

What I hear is that this God you describe is a sElective murderer. Surely I must be misunderstanding something??

And how do we tell the two types of work apart?

I rest in the works that God works through me.
Actually itis do the works God wants us to do:-eph 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

We can rest in Jesus etc, but we still have work to do.

Sounds like a real burden... I choose to rest!

It's the difference between justification by faith (Romans 5) and supposed self-justification to try to achieve favour with God. The beginning and end of Romans speaks of 'the obedience of faith'; 'obedience to the faith'.
I don’t believe we’ll know what these works are until the fire is extinguished.

God permits what he hates, to accomplish what he loves. You only need to look at the cross to understand

Commenting on your thread title: how today’s popular gospel dishonors God? Yes, what you shared in the OP but also consider, the distortion of today’s popular message of:

faith=pride
Instead of: faith =submission

Romans 9:21-23
[21] Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? [22] What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: [23] And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

It is indeed healthy to submit solemnly to God's sovereignty.

I was not saying that God's Sovereign choices are illogical. God forbid. He can do as He pleases.

But if one (Dave) says that all people have a choice, but this choice can only be made after God causes them to be born again, but God only chooses to make some people born again, then it is a logical impossibility that all have a choice. Follow me?

As far as my mention of God appearing to be a murderer, this is in contrast to being a mere bully.
