The gifts are important to the function of the Church.

Unfortunately some elevate a gift to something it was never intended to be.

Others incorrectly define gifts to make them fit their doctrines.

So here's a quick look at the gifts.

1 Corinthians 12:7-11
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
Everyone gets a gifts but not everyone gets the same gift.

Note it is a gift not a sign, wonder or requirement.
8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom,
When I was young I knew some very wise old people that could not even read.

But remember I am talking to 60s about some people born in the 1800s.
to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
I believe this includes being a great doctor and at times praying for one's own healing.
10 to another miraculous powers,
to another prophecy,
to another distinguishing between spirits,
It does not mean being a lie detector as some believe
to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,
Not as a sign
and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Why did you limit #9, "Healing", the way you did?

Addressing the OP only. not saying that anyone is right or wrong, but consider this.

the very first of a gift in verse 8 is the Pastoral Gift. 1Co 12:8 "For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit".

is not the first gift on the list is the Pastoral gift? we believe so, for the book of Jeremiah bring or support this .

first thanks for the reply, second, the pastoral gift covers, Apostles, Prophets, Teachers, Overseers, and Evangelist. supportive scriptures,
1 Corinthians 12:28 "And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues".

was not Paul a Pastor/Overseer, as well as a prophet, and a teacher? yes. this one gift covers all those listed 1 Corinthians 12:28, and Ephesians 4:11 "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers".

and all these gifts spring from the one listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8".

Preachers?, lets hear what the word of God say.
Jer 3:15 "And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding".

if one is called by God/JESUS, to feed his flock, is feeding with "knowledge" and "understanding", then this one is pastoring.

Romans 10:13-15 KJV
[13] For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. [14] How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? [15] And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Tecarta BibleMaybe there is a misunderstanding of the gift of preacher.

But not missionaries and witnesses?
I believe that anyone who hosts the Spirit of God, and testifies of him is a preacher.

Preacher, missionary, witness, deacons, etc. all testified to Christ but in different roles.

Do you believe you have this”gift”?
first thanks for the reply. second, anyone born of the Spirit has the gift, or gifts, (note how we said that). understand, the gift is he, the Holy Spirit, so do I "have" any gift in particular? no, listen, 1 Corinthians 12:11 "But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will".

see it's the Spirit that worketh in us. I can do nothing of myself. the gift, the Holy Spirt "enable" us to do or overcome a task.
