This is borderline blasphemy of the Holy Ghost as far as I'm concerned.
That is fine for you personally. Just keep in mind that this is a highly contentious subject, and many Christians do not accept the validity of modern tongues as a prayer language for private use.
God says the gifts expired
Scripture shows the gifts came only through an apostle's laying on of hands. Also only in the two outpourings. Scripture does not say the gifts came in any other way.Not saying you're wrong but do you have a verse?
I wasn't referring to tongues with those scriptures; I was referring to the fact that in the new birth we become new creatures in Christ. You trying to combine different contexts from Old and New Testament times.
There were no tongues in the Old Testament for one thing.
If someone has a gift of tongues from the Holy Ghost, and someone points the finger at that person and says that their tongues are of the devil, then they are attributing what is of the Holy Ghost to the devil...and that is the definition of blasphemy against the Ghost. Not at all. Let's not be quick to try an attach this one to others.
They are not necessarily of the devil. They just are human babbling to blow off steam. If someone has a gift of tongues from the Holy Ghost, and someone points the finger at that person and says that their tongues are of the devil, then they are attributing what is of the Holy Ghost to the devil...and that is the definition of blasphemy against the Ghost.
You can reject tongues if you want to...I believe that it is a valid spiritual gift. They are not necessarily of the devil. They just are human babbling to blow off steam.
I've been fairly skeptical about tongue speaking for quite some time, as and I can't say that I had honestly encountered it before today. But I do believe what I experienced this morning was real, and I'm exceedingly grateful for it.

I was attending a prayer meeting before service for some extra fellowship and prayer time. About a dozen of us were centered around a square table, and we were all invited to pray as we felt led. A man came in late, we made eye contact, nodded, sat next to me. We started praying.
A few minutes in, this man sounded off a string of phonemes and morphemes in rapid succession in a whispered voice. It didn't sound so much like a language. He did not draw attention to himself. When he was moved to speak his prayer, it was not long but it was solid supplication and there was a tenor of strong emotion in his voice as he pleaded with God. A few minutes later, I heard this rapidity again. I felt an urging to look at him the next time he did this.
When it happened again, I looked up and he was staring right into my eyes, nodded, I averted my gaze almost immediately. Frightening. The prayers continued until our session ended a few minutes later. He introduced himself to me and to my friend.
We got up to leave and I called his name and asked if I could ask him a question. In the hall, "Were you just speaking in tongues?" His response was an immediate and confident "Yes." I told him that I had been rather skeptical of tongues and we talked a bit about it. He said tongues was "All from God." I was floored by the clarity, calmness, and peaceful composure of the man.
He spoke encouragingly to me, mentioning for me to plead with God and ask him to find what His will for my life is. To fast and pray and seek earnestly more spiritual gifts to serve our Lord. 1 Corinthians 12:31
All in all, a phenomenal day at church.

What are you experiences with this phenomenon? Does my account sound genuine with your own experiences? Do you speak in tongues, and if so, how often?
I will praise God for this gift and for this profound experience today. I am now decidedly less skeptical/judgemental about this claim.
I never speak of it...because the non charismatic, fundamental christians for some reason get madly angry when tongues is the discussion. They hate it and say it is from the devil.
I would not wish to be in their shoes when the "roll is called up yonder" and the Holy Spirit shows them the truth. ✟
You posted this as a nice positive thread.....but sadly, just as I guessed it has been turned into something negative.
BUT, as I said way back in post #2 >>>

Friend of,
I'm sympathetic with your view as I'm Charismatic.
Did the speakers know what they were saying? Nowhere does Scripture say this. And Paul would not have needed to say, "If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet" - because they would have been able to interpret the tongue themselves. With the original gift of tongues, the speakers knew what they were saying. Paul says tongues speakers edified themselves, and to interpret so all could understand and be edified. So these knew what they were saying. Today's tongue speakers do not know what they are saying meaning today's "gift" is not genuine.
People get a buzz and relieve stress speaking in "tongues".
Really? That's not been my experience. I can only 'tune in' to the Spirit and pray in tongues when I am relaxed. And I certainly don't get any kind of 'buzz'. It's like listening to the radio in a foreign language. But many are exhilarated by babbling at an emotional level.
Not so. Scripture says that they will cease - "when completeness comes". And we are not yet complete, not until we see God "face to face".God says the gifts expired, the enemy says they did not.

Paul said "understanding" was the basis for "edification". He also said whoever spoke in tongues was "edified". So the tongue speaker knew what they were saying. He told them to "interpret" what they understood the message to be, so all could become "edified". This is not the case with those who think they have the original gift, which Paul said would end when the perfect (complete) arrived. If Scripture is complete and does a better job than tongues ever did, then scripture replaced tongues.Did the speakers know what they were saying? Nowhere does Scripture say this. And Paul would not have needed to say, "If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet" - because they would have been able to interpret the tongue themselves.

Not so. Scripture says that they will cease - "when completeness comes". And we are not yet complete, not until we see God "face to face".
The gifts came about in the two outpourings and through an apostles' hands. The apostles are no longer with us agreeing with Paul that the gifts were temporary. If you want to prove your claim, record a tongues message and take it to several "interpreters" and see if they all come up with the same interpretation. Be honest and document it on video. Then you will know. You can reject tongues if you want to...I believe that it is a valid spiritual gift.
If you think they are of the flesh then the consequences are for you, not for me...for you will probably never humble yourself to receive the gift.
As for me, I already have the gift...and since it is something that I practice in private anyway, it has no bearing on you.
I am edified in my spirit through the use of my spiritual gift. I sing in my prayer language, and I will sing with my understanding also.
Some people seem to want to put a stop to those who have the gift exercising it in any way, by disparaging the gift and trying to use fear tactics of the enemy to try and discourage us from using it...this is truly what is of the devil.
And if you think that my tongues are of the flesh, then that is on you...and you are not allowed to forbid me to speak in tongues even if you think that they are of the flesh...therefore I will continue to exercise liberty (where the Spirit of the Lord is) to speak in my prayer language as the Lord sees fit.
