Missing Jesus' Point regarding Matt 5:17Some people miss the message of Jesus taught in Matt 5 through 7 out of love for vice, license, and volition. He was specifically teaching His disciples about His Torah, newness in application, and warning them about the heresies to come regarding His Torah. Some people usually quote Paul's text as to say that Jesus was wrong regarding the destruction and new application of the Torah. However, Jesus said that he came not to destroy His Torah but to fulfill it by filling in the gaps. What gaps? I am referring to the gaps in our understanding regarding the original intent, true purpose, and application of His Torah. According to the Scripture following His declaration regarding the continuous of His Torah He gave lessons. These lessons actually raised the bar for believers regarding their standard of conduct and motives. Hence, Torah was taken to a whole new level. It was no longer to address the physical world of carnal, but also that of the spirit and soul of man. He sat down on the mountain to give His sermon regarding the newness to come. Here is Jesus' Torah.Joh 14:15 - "If you love Me, keep My commandments. Here is what He said regarding His commandments. Mt 5:17 -"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. The Greek word used here for fulfill is "Pleroo" and it is best rendered to fill in the gap as it pertains to the following lessons Jesus taught. Starting points needed for Matt 5 to be understood. 1.The Torah is no longer applicable to flesh for it has been elevated towards spirit. Ro 7:14 - For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. 2.This same Torah is spirituality written in our heart. Jer 31:33 - But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.3.The Holy Spirit would be the means of walking and following this new spiritual Torah. Eze 36:27 - I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.Starting Premises of Matt 51.He starts this long lecture with what most the Beatitudes. He is trying to set the human heart up for His lessons to come. 2.Then He declares who the listeners should be.Mt 5:13 - "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. Mt 5:14 -"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 3.Then He immediately makes the declaration that set up lessons to follow. Mt 5:17,18 -"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 4.Then He adds a warning the instructions concerning His Torah. (Matt 5:19,20)Now onto the lessons and the truth regarding Spiritual Torah.1.Regarding Murder (Matt 5:21, 22)21 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, "You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.' 22But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. (He established a new spiritual understanding and intent of murder by commandment. Now we cannot even have murderous thoughts or intentions. Murderous intentions now include slander and gossip against a person character.)2.Regarding Offenses and Forgiveness (Matt 5:22-25)And whoever says to his brother, "Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, "You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire. 23Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (If we know of someone being offended by us and we do not attempt to reconcile, then our gifts towards God will not be accepted.)3.Regarding Adultery (Matt 5:27,28)27 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, "You shall not commit adultery.' 28But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (He establishes a new understanding regarding adultery which elevates its application not just towards one's acts but a person's heart as well.)4.He establishes new principles and adds to His Torah by continuing to fill in the gaps for our missing understanding. He points to the true intents and application of His Torah to be one of spirit now, no longer applicable to carnality. The keeping of the commandments which is the Spiritual Torah must now be done according to spirit and truth. Further lessons regarding the expansion of our understanding regarding Jesus' Torah: Oaths, Going the second mile, how to pray, love towards our enemy, how to fast, laying up treasures, not worrying, condemning others. He preps the ending of His sermon on the Mount lesson with a truth that will not be realized by some people until they see Him face to face. Matt 7:1-23 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23And then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' The main point is that they practiced lawlessness, which is "Anomia" in the Greek. This means one who has transgressed against the Torah. Then He concludes. Matt 7:24-29 24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26"But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." 28And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Some saints have not built on this rock, because they are without Spiritual Torah. They are without the knowledge of the Torah being written in their hearts, understanding of its spiritual applications, and means of honoring the second spiritual covenant regarding what Jesus taught in Matt 5 through 7. I believe this is the essential key to fulfilling our personal commission and worshipping Jesus in spirit and truth.Do you agree or not agree with this ascertain that a lot of saints are missing the mark regarding this lesson of Jesus regarding Matt 5:17?

Well, given the fact that human beings are flawed creatures, I would say yes to your question. It is known throughout history that many (claiming to know God) have missed the mark. That is why God said we can judge the Spirit of Truth from the spirit of error simply by a person's actions. Do they claim to walk with Him? Then look at how they walk, what they say, their lifestyle. Those things will tell us more than their words claiming so.

some Saints Have Not Built On This Rock, Because They Are Without Spiritual Torah. They Are Without The Knowledge Of The Torah Being Written In Their Hearts, Understanding Of Its Spiritual Applications, And Means Of Honoring The Second Spiritual Covenant Regarding What Jesus Taught In Matt 5 Through 7. I Believe This Is The Essential Key To Fulfilling Our Personal Commission And Worshipping Jesus In Spirit And Truth.
Reminds me very much of the Song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32.Deuteronomy 32:31
For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
There is a very distinct reason our Lord is the cornerstone as the apostle Paul said. (Yet another concept found in both the New and Old Testament, though a slightly different slant but still retains the same concept!)Your message above reminded me very much of that verse.I'm just glad to see someone pay attention to Matthew 5. It's a chapter I continually find myself bringing up because folks don't understand that Christ didn't do away with the law as many maintain. He very clearly expanded on it to illustrate that it's not the act itself but the character of the one carrying it out.It goes back to what's said in Hosea.Hosea 6:6
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
That's why the good book of James says that "faith without works is dead." Someone truly in Christ will not just believe on him, but will do in his name. The point in all of this is to love God and that requires a true love that manifests as following his commandments. I don't think they're really that demanding in the grand scheme.
