According to modern Bible versions, yes. The KJV says,
A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Titus 3:10 KJV
However, according to ASV, A factious (divisive) man after a first and second admonition refuse; Titus 3:10 ASV
Now look up other modern versions such as the NIV, and you will see there also that a heretic is deemed to be factious, or divisive. Dictionaries, for example Webster, and others, explain a heretic as one who refuses to accept the teachings, or dogma of the established church. This is pure Catholicism. According to the common opinion, a heretic is one who is sectarian...refuses the authority of the church...and is divisive or factious.
Yet Paul said that a heretic is one who, according to church authorities of his day, was someone who believed in the word of God...someone who believed the doctrine (word and doctrine are interchangeable in Hebrew literature) as taught by Christ.
Ac 24:14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
So if the modern Bible versions are true and reliable, Jesus was a heretic...called as such by His church because He like Paul believed all things written in the law and the prophets, (sound doctrine), but also because He was divisive...
Mt 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
Luke 12:52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
Joh 7:41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
Joh 7:41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
Joh 7:42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
Joh 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
Joh 9:16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
Joh 10:19 ¶ There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings.
Joh 10:20 And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?
Joh 10:21 Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
So, if the modern versions and dictionaries are correct, and a heretic is a divisive teacher of doctrine which is not in agreement with the church, where does that leave us who claim to follow Jesus?
