I have many friends in the US, and some can not get access to the medical care they need because they cannot get insurence - or don't earn enough, and I am pretty sure that many poorer people do not qualify either.
You do get ambulances in an emergency , but in some areas there are delays - but the ambulance service gets a lot of calls that could be handled elsewhere, same as the casualty departments- many go along for minor things when they could see a doctor in a surgery, that is a downside of the NHS- but I still believe it's a good service, and admire everyone that works within it. I have been fortunate, had many surgeries but always had good care.
My Twin brother lives in Germany, the health care there is brilliant - but they pay a lot for it.
I do not earn that much, so my tax is not to bad - but my sons pay pay quite a bit, not sure what percentage goes to the NHS though, it use to be the national insurence that went to the NHS , but I know this proberbly changed.

Every country in the world has some problems with healthcare. That is not debatable.

In Europe one of the biggest problems is the government just will not provide certain procedures that are provided in the US, an example.

In rural areas of both the US and Europe there are ambulance delays. Abuse of emergency services is common everywhere.

Adding to the cost is governments paying for the medical of illegal aliens, here and in Europe.

Written has quite a large Muslim population of immigrants.

Germany is being overwhelmed with immigrants. An acquaintance of mine works for the German government in the US. As did his mother, who is German. Both said they would never move back to Germany.

Everywhere is struggling with medical issues. No exceptions.

Bottom line is the government cannot provide everything and often does a poor job and what they do provide.

Same here in the US with Canada. They have national health but a lot of problems. One of the largest concentrations of medical facilities in the US is on the border and the majority of their patients are Canadian.

Will there ever be an answer? No. Medical is costly and complicated.

@Butterfly So do you ever feel that you are being ripped off tax-wise, because of the NHS?
Sorry, only just come across this, must have missed the notification X
No, I never feel ripped off- my NHS insurence is about 50.60 pounds a month
, my tax is a little higher- but I have taken out of the NHS for 60 years, had four operations, four children, who have also had over 40 years of taking out of it. I get free prescriptions and free medication if I go into hospital. One of my sons has vascular hypersensitivity and nearly lost his toes twice, the drip he needs is over 2,000 pounds.
I value the NHS, If we went over to your system of insurance I doubt I would be able to afford it X

Actually we are in Canada, with a comprehensively funded system.

Not to start an argument, but yesterday the news covered seniors going blind because restrictions kept them from getting eye surgery.

I never said it was a perfect health service, or that delays don't happen, or that there are not consequences to those delays , but that doesn't mean I cannot value or appreciate something.

My mom asked the doctor to "put her down" and lived ten more years after that! If the doctor was allowed that, she would have missed many more years.

Doctors make their own decisions on who goes into Hospice, not mom.
It take two doctors that agree that a condition is 6 months terminal.

Yet Jesus agrees to be crucified explaining that secular law is His Fathers will.
Then Jesus submitted to local law to support His point.

Oh I'll submit, if it is law. But I sure will say what I think about it. For right now one of our laws is the right to say what we are thinking basically.

Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.

Psalm 62:5
For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.

Lamentations 3:26
It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless, Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow.
ISAIAH 1:16‭-‬17 NASB

We wait for the Lord, but we aren't supposed to sit on our hands either if there is still time for justice to be done. We are to tell others of what God's Word says, and it says, "Thou Shalt not Kill" It does not matter the circumstance. Who are we to play God and choose life or death? Even when it comes to ourselves.

Not even then!

Well, the only reason I say that is because, if ever I could go back, knowing what I now do then, I would choose to follow Christ from a very early age. This world is so awful anymore. And, I fear many from this age will perish. All of my nieces and nephews have gone the way of the world although, I believe my prayers for their salvation will come to fruition ♥

I might also like to go back and be a real witness for the Lord as a young person, but as we both know, that is not according to God's plan. We should remember the story of Lazarus and the rich man and the following words which to me do relate to such a hypothetical situation:

"And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." Luke 16:31

One of us going back with present knowledge would not necessarily win them over... It might open their eyes, but some who have seen choose to remain blind. Each person only has available the opportunities God gives them. With that each person makes his final decision. If God were to allow another opportunity would it also add to what was required of the person with such an additional opportunity?

"And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." Luke 12:48

You are all discussing emotions, and no agreement is possible on that basis. You need to figure out exactly what you are discussing, not how you feel about it.

Anybody can commit suicide by just refusing to eat. So suicide is not the issue.

It is almost impossible to differentiate between assisted suicide and imposed suicide.

When the law gets involved it is almost always wrong and impossible to change.

The best thing for lawmakers to do is almost always nothing, and in most cases they should have done it a lot sooner.

I have a documented DNR. Signed by my doctor.

Rita, I have see too many in my time who were "brought back"...not one was a happy thing...I mentioned earlier...one friend was so mad at them.( family)
Instead of being happy and warm...she said " Girl, now I have to live through these winters again, I am too old to go out and walk on ice now...etc etc "
the sad thing was , the family that lived close, MOVED south, back to Texas, and left her in a Home in northern BC. :(
PLUS, after two years she lost her mind to dementia...
If only they had let her alone the first time. :(

Also my daughters mother in law...told her two sons DNR...the older one overruled my daughters husband...and got them to resusertate her ( she'd had a stroke) so the medics brought her back..and she ended her days on being tube fed and unconscious most of the time... she did wake enough to say.."unplug me, let me go..I want to find you dad and be in heaven with Jesus"
The older son took four more weeks before he would let her go...how selfish is THAT!!!

I told my kids..."IF YOU KEEP ME ON A FEEDING TUBE I WILL COME BACK AND HAUNT YOU!!"

The thing is IF we need resusitating ( sp) then we do NOT know what damage has been done to the heart and brain...who wants to live with half a brain..
I hope I go out with a bang, so no one has to make any decisions. LOL

Sad stories :(
Keeping people alive on machines is just mans way of saying, "No God, you can't have them yet, see, we have the wisdom and technology to keep them a goin! Pain or brain, their stayin!" So, Maybe it IS their time but, human hands keep them here. Just a weird thought :)

Assisted suicide is a hard and emotional topic.

There have been those wanted to die that recovered. And people who were not supposed to have anything serious died.

My input on this is personal. Have you ever been put in the position where you had instructed Dr. to take someone off of a life support machine?

I have.

They were brain-dead. They looked dead. All their body did was convulse due to the machines.

When unplugged they were gone instantly.

And one other was in the hospital. One person did not want him to go to a hospice but to go home and die there.

Specialist all told to overrule and send him.

His body was eaten up with cancer. Terminal. No hope.

I overruled, they relaxed with a peaceful look, Not able to speak. Died the next morning.

She just died last year in that home of cancer.

My point is is not an easy topic. But when you're in that situation a decision has to be made.

I hope no one else ever has to confront it.

Too much already and it is already too late to reverse it.
