Here is a headline I just saw:

“Easter is not about sacrifice, it’s about faith and love”

Wow

We are not doing a very good job as Christians showing the world that sacrifice is the ultimate expression of faith and love. We’ve gotten lazy or something. Maybe we’ve been spending too much time memorizing scripture rather than living it. I am motivated by this headline - it’s time for me to get back to serving my neighbor

Has Easter reminded you about your commitment to imitate Jesus? I am not sure what I am going to do this season, but I am going to start by praying about it. It has been a good Lenten season and I am ready to reach out in a new way.

I am not afraid of talking about service, btw - it is not bragging, it is connecting the dots between love and sacrifice, which apparently, we may need to discuss more as Christians.

So, how are you serving you neighbor, lately?

Not trying to detract from your good message, but the word Easter is actually not in God's Holy Writ.

In Acts 12:4, the KJV translators added the word "Easter". It's really not there in the Greek New Testament manuscripts. What is there in the Greek is pascha, which means passover. Jesus became our Passover Lamb sacrificed for us (1 Cor.5:7).

Easter was actually from the old pagan idol worship of Ishtar, which was a religious sexual rite. If you ever wondered where the idea of a bunny rabbit became part of the Easter tradition, know that it ain't from God's Word.

When pagans were being converted to The Gospel, some of the old names were kept, but the meanings changed, i.e., like Easter being now symbolic of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection.

It should all be about the finished sacrifice (Hebrews chapters 9 and 10), and the glorious resurrection, 1 Corinthians 15.

I've felt called lately to become more involved in my Church. Which, probably doesn't sound like much, or like a given, but for someone who is not well, it's a pretty big leap of faith. I'm trusting God will provide the energy I need to be "out" so much. But...it's a good feeling, becoming a bigger part of my family of faith, helping where I can there...and being excited to see where God might lead it all.

Easter is not about sacrifice...
It would be more biblically accurate to say that "Easter is about the supreme sacrifice which resulted in the supreme resurrection of Christ".
So without that sacrifice, there could have been no resurrection.

BTW faith and love are also expressed in sacrificial living and giving.

Acts 2.42 has a lot of scope... :)

God bless you in your Spirit-led activities.

I don't know about you, but when I read Acts 2:42-47, it sounds so good, doesn't it?! They must have been so new and excited in the faith, heady in the thought of what the future might bring! Sometime life will pull that wonder from us, that heartbeat of commonality that we all truly share.
It'll be something, in the 'new earth', when we have that again, except not having to worry about bumping heads anymore!

Easter is not about sacrifice but Good Friday is...His sacrifice for our sins.
Resurrection Sunday is about victory... His victory over death and the grave,..it's also about new life, a life we can take part in, in serving our neighbors. In short it's about Him! Not us.

I think we can all keep or not keep the day however we wish.

But I think Christian life is about serving. I think that at all times we have the opportunity to serve those immediately connected to us by doing, and to serve those and others by praying.

I think that death and resurrection in Christ is intended to replace our lives of self-service with lives of service to God and others. I'd have to say that Easter is all about serving, because we've been raised to life.

And serving is, of course, sacrifice, because whatever it is we serve others with, our time, our resources, our strength, it always takes away from what could have been for me, and gives it to others.

My two cents . . .

Much love!

Happy Resurrection Day everyone!

YES!!!
Death with no RESURRECTION would leave Jesus DEAD!!

Many could testify that Jesus died...there were crowds around the cross.
A little handful could testify of His resurrection ...that was the power of the Gospel , and still IS.

So @aspen yes, I would agree that "Easter" is not really about the sacrifice..

And, yet another alert I did NOT get!!! I am just now (obviously) seeing this thread of yours o_O and I know I'm not the only one who does not get alerts.

I am right there with you brother. It is Spring, new life! I too have been praying for more opportunities to serve God through serving others! I have an idea that keeps coming back to me and plan on acting on it soon. If God blesses it, it will work and if not, then He has something else He prepared for me ♥
I am glad you were inspired by that headline, it has now strengthened my resolve to be more aware of where He is leading me, so thanks :)
Ephesians 2:10
