I think maybe...you know it's love if you desire to pour yourself out for the others good, even IF you receive nothing in return from them, versus if you desire them to serve you or gratify or help you.

Love is patient and kind. It does not envy or boast and is not proud. It does not dishonor others and is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. It does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, trusts, hopes and perserveres.
Zee Bible I see.

Are you afraid to think for yourself? Do you possess the ability for original thought? You come at me with your Bible brand of theology, over and over I have to deal with Christians who just can't express anything outside their holy book.

So...you want people to put it in their own words? That's an interesting exercise...I'm game!

Love does not roll its eyes behind the back of the one it loves in a contemptuously impatient and arrogant manner, showing itself thereby to be a liar, wishing the one it claims to love would shut up.

You mean like that?

Well you guys have wrecked a perfectly good thread, for what purpose may I ask?

Lol! You asked people who believe God is light and truth what love really is. If they have seen and learned that love is sacrificial rather than grabbing for itself, then they read in their bible that it is So, then they are going to agree with what they've read because it puts in words what they have discovered! You make me laugh. You are in a place where Christians gather, demanding they dont use the bible. You're a nut! :p

All I can do is blink here, really I just can't accept what your saying.

Really??
So then, would it instead be...love sees a hurting person and does not plead for help for them or does not bring them to the attention of those who could help them, or even try to help them in any way. Instead, love quietly takes notice of their hurt condition, pain and distress and then walks away?

Hi Dave L

I don't consider myself an agnostic, I rather think that my world view is not one anyone has. At this point I can't not classify my view into a formulaic process.

So you think your world view is unique and has never been the world view of any other man in history?

You will write a love story that doesn't involve any sort of sacrifice?

You will write an action thriller that does not have the theme of good vs. evil?

You would be the first author to ever do it. If some sort of sacrifice isn't in the plot, then its not a love story. If there isn't some sort of good vs. Evil plot, then your action story would bore the whole world to tears and, in fact, would not BE any sort of suspenseful or thrilling story.

Possibly.

Well said.

I call bull! :D Not on his entire post, but on the part where he says you can love someone without feeling anything at all.

I would agree that you can HELP someone without any feeling at all. I can slide you a twenty if you are begging for help to buy food and then quickly walk away before your sad life impacts me any further than that. But is that love?

What is good and evil? What you think is good might be evil for someone else, and what you think is evil might be good for someone else.

Can you measure the length of good and evil to it's end?

I'm very hopeful for JJ. He's searching for something solid beneath his feet. I believe he will find it.

Oh yeah? (That's not a very original thought, by the way.)

So I understand you to be saying that Hitler may or may not have been evil to murder millions of people, it all just depends on what you believe. To one man, He may be a very good person to have done so and would have been evil to NOT have murdered millions of people. Cool. That the solid ground you're looking for?

Jeffrey Dahmer torturing, killing, cooking and eating people isn't evil for having done so? All depends on what you believe?

Good and evil is why we're in this dilemma in the first place, doesn't your Bible say such things? But what people fail to see is that goodness will kill you too. Good and evil doesn't go anywhere, it has no end and no beginning.
