TallMan;57082] When you got baptised was it with the belief that you needed to receive the Holy Spirit as detailed in the bible (evidenced by speaking in tongues) ?If not said:
thesuperjag Same old, same old. Some things will never change.Your right, and Gods word is one of those things. Have you studied Acts 19:1-6 yet? How about Mark 16:17? Oh, here's a good one, I Corinthians 14:2? (There are your two or more witnesses; Mark, Luke, and Paul, all bear witness to the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues)Don't just read it, but, study it? We can not grow in our relationship with God if we are closed to correction. 'I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,' 'and that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.' Eph.1:18, 17I have studied this topic before Sasha. I am so not closed to correction, in fact I'm wide open. And there is no such thing as an unknown tongue. It is speaking about foreign languages... like Spanish, French, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese etcActs 2:6 - Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.Acts 2:8 - And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?Acts 2:9-11 - Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.In fact I used to go to a Pentecostal church... I know these stuff... if we can't hear what they are saying and have no interpreters, how shall it edify the Church?Did you even know that Christ spoke in a Hebrew tongue?

Did you even know that Christ spoke in a Hebrew tongue?
Yes, I'm aware of that sweetheart. No need to be defensive. Just expressing my thoughts on the matter. I Corinthians 14:2 'For one who speaks in a tongue does NOT speak to MEN, but to GOD, for NO ONE UNDERSTANDS, but in his SPIRIT he speaks MYSTERIES.'That sounds 'unknown' to me.

BTW, sorry that you feel that way, I wasn't intending it to be defensive more like a clarification. By the way, the word spirits has a lowercase S on it...it's not even referring to the Spirit of God, but your spirit. If I speak to you in a foreign language you know not, of course it will speak mysteries..but it is useless because it does not help you grow if you don't understand what I'm saying. To edify the Church is the right thing to do, but to edify oneself is pointless.I Corinthians 14:19 - Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.By the way Sasha, I love you.

Mark 16:17 says 'these signs will follow those who believed:' WILL FOLLOW not might follow, not will follow some of those who believe, but, WILL FOLLOW THOSE WHO BELIEVE. 'in My name they WILL cast out demons, they WILL speak with NEW TONGUES.' If you buy a NEW car, that means NOBODY else has evey used it before, correct!? So, why would NEW TONGUES be any different!? They are NEW, nobody has ever used them before, not in another country, (like the day of pentecost) not in another time in history. The perpose of new/unknown tongues is being able to pray to God without the devil interferring.Because many times when praing in a known tongue, we cancel the prayer out ourselves and not even realize it. Your right, it is lower case 's'. Meaning us, we are spirit. The Holy Spirit prays THROUGH us spirit. We pray in tongues mysteries, that NO ONE UNDERSTANDS, not even us. Acts 2:4 'And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other thongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance' Yes, in Acts it is referring to speaking in OTHER tongues, not NEW/UNKNOWN tongues. My point here is AS THE SPIRIT 'Capital S' was giving them utterance. Is it so hard to believe that the Spirit of God can have you speak in a language YOU have never even heard of, much less understand, and not be able to have you pray in a lanuage NOBODY has ever heard of? Most of all satan!? And I love you too......................

I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater [is] he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh [shall be] a barbarian unto meEven so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual [gifts], seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

Well are praying to God? or are we chit chatting with others? Even when I pray in english, I don't walk up to someone and say 'thank you heavenly father for your son jesus......blah blah blah.' When I pray, it is to God. My attention and focus is on God. I don't see your point!?

Actually, they make handreds of thousands of Ford F-150's. It might be new, but it is only *new* because *you haven't used it before*. It isn't new because it has never been made. It's new because you are the first one to own it, personally. It came off an assembly line and there are thousands of others exactly like it. It is the exact same as all the others that are like it. Not even really arguing w/ you so much as just pointing that out. I know what I am getting when I go to the dealership to get a new Ford F-150, or any other car--it's nothing that is uncommon to us.Personally, I've never run into anyone who is demon possessed that I know of... am I to blame, since I have not cast out any demons? Now, do not forget Mark 15:18. I haven't picked up a deadly snake yet... and I haven't drank poison that has failed to kill me. Yes, these are also signs that WILL FOLLOW those who believe. Why haven't I experienced this? Should I drink more poison and pick up more deadly snakes?
Mark 16:17-18And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
I think the important modifier that is used in verse 18 when relating to drinking poison is the word *if*. The question is... have those who believe been in such a circumstance where this *if* comes into play, and consequently these signs would need to follow? As we go *into the world* as we get into these circumstances... *if* we are there, then these *will follow* as the Lord needs them to. Like I said... I don't know that I have ever met a person who is demon possessed, but it is grouped right along w/ speaking in new tongues, is it not?The way you put this, you are saying that these WILL FOLLOW, and if they don't... then they aren't saved/don't believe. If that is incorrect, and/or if that is not what you meant, then please elaborate on what you said so that it doesn't sound that way. Also, Paul makes it clear that not all speak in tongues -- 1 Corinthians 12:30. He begs the questions, "Do all speak in tongues" as a self-concluding question... the answer is no, not all speak in tongues.

Accept it or reject it, it's up to you.Personally, I've never run into anyone who is demon possessed that I know of... am I to blame, since I have not cast out any demons? Now, do not forget Mark 15:18. I haven't picked up a deadly snake yet... and I haven't drank poison that has failed to kill me. Yes, these are also signs that WILL FOLLOW those who believe. Why haven't I experienced this? Should I drink more poison and pick up more deadly snakes?SARCASM!!! I LIKE THAT!!! TEMPT NOT THE LORD THY GOD. Acts 28:3-5 'But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. .............verse 5 However, he shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm.' As far as poison goes, NO, you don't go and drink poison for ANY reason. But, if someone tried to poison you, or if a child drank liquid draino, it would not harm you. Of course, it all comes by faith in God.Like I said... I don't know that I have ever met a person who is demon possessed, but it is grouped right along w/ speaking in new tongues, is it not?I'm not sure your ready for this, most people are not. So, you can take it or leave it. But, here goes. God has angels, they are the ones who bring messages to us. (the answer to prayers. Remember in Daniel 10, his messenger angel was in battle with a demonic spirit for 21 days)Satan however, has angels too, other wise known as demons. (like the one battling with daniels angel)Eph 6:12 'Our battle in not with flesh and blood but with the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places' (daniels angel and the demon battled 21 days in the heavenly places-meaning not in this natural world we live in)II Cor 12:7 '.....there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, (FLESH) a messenger from satan to buffet me..........' Every disease is a demonic spirit that had be sent from satan to still, kill and distroy. When a person has cancer, their phyical body is affected by it.(thorn in the FLESH) A person with spinal miningitis, their bodies are twisted up and drawn to the side. (thorn in the FLESH) Matthew 8:16 '......they brought to Him many who were demon possessed; and He cast out the spirits (demons) with a word. (Gods word) and healed ALL who were ill. (the FLESH)First Jesus cast out the demonic spirits (of Cancer-Spinal miningitis, spirit of jealousy, spirit of lust or whatever it may be.) Then He healed their bobies when need be. (FLESH)Mark 6:7 'He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs; and He was giving them authority over the unclean spirits' (demons) A second witness to that is in Matthew 10:1 'And having summoned His twelve disciples, He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.' A third witness to this is in Luke 9:1 'He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to heal diseases.'However, there is a difference between being POSSESSED and being OPRESSED. POSSESSED is like the man in Gadarens, in the tombs. The demon or demons have complete control over the person.Mark 9:20-26 'they brought the boy to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling about and foaming at the mouth (complete control over the person)............................v 25 He rebuked the unckean spirit, saying to it, 'You deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.'versee 27 Jesus took him by the hand and raised him and he got up.' OPRESSED is like Peter, (one of the disciples) Matthew 16:23 'Jesus turened and said to Peter,'GET BEHIND ME SATAN! Your are a stumbling block to Me;........' Peter was NOT POSSESSED by satan, but, satan was still operating through Peter. Acts 10:38 'You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good, and healing ALL who were OPPRESSED by the DEVIL; for God was with Him.'The way you put this, you are saying that these WILL FOLLOW, and if they don't... then they aren't saved/don't believe. If that is incorrect, and/or if that is not what you meant, then please elaborate on what you said so that it doesn't sound that way.OOHHH, DON'T PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH MY FRIEND. I DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR SALVATION. Also, Paul makes it clear that not all speak in tongues -- 1 Corinthians 12:30. He begs the questions, "Do all speak in tongues" as a self-concluding question... the answer is no, not all speak in tongues.
Paul in not referring to your personal prayer language. I Corinthians 14:4 - He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church....I Corinthians 14:13 - Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.I Corinthians 14:14 - For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.I Corinthians 14:15 - What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also....I Corinthians 14:19 - Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue....I Corinthians 14:27 - If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.I Corinthians 14:28 - But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.It's clearly obvious my Saviour would rather have me learn the Word of of God with understanding, than to speak in blah that I will never learn. One more thing.I Corinthians 12:28 - And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. I Corinthians 12:29 - Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?I Corinthians 12:30 - Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?Love you too,

Sasha,First, I wasn't being sarcastic, I was being serious. I have never cast out a demon possessed person, but it is grouped right along w/ tongues, is it not? These things WILL FOLLOW.I didn't put words in your mouth. I said, "If that is incorrect, and/or if that is not what you meant, then please elaborate on what you said so that it doesn't sound that way." I merely was stating that is how it appeared, and gave you the oppertunity to make it disappear... and, I think you have made it disappear if you weren't making a judgment on anyone's salvation based on that verse.
Paul in not referring to your personal prayer language. Even if he were, I DON'T FOLLOW PAUL, I FOLLOW JESUS.
Really? Well then, please tell me what Jesus taught on tongues. Scripture references please, quoting Jesus. I would like to know what Jesus taught on tongues. I Corinthians 11:1

I think you have made it disappear if you weren't making a judgment on anyone's salvation based on that verse. You continue to accuse me of judging everyones salvation, why is that? I have not once said ANYTHING about a persons salvations based on any scripture I've given. Christians are not perfect, flawless, or even close to that. Thus the reason Jesus said repent daily. I've never lead anyone to believe they are not saved, or they are doomed to hell, if they don't do this or that. Really? Well then, please tell me what Jesus taught on tongues. Scripture references please, quoting Jesus. I would like to know what Jesus taught on tongues. I Corinthians 11:1
If I gave you scriptures quoting Jesus would you even know it? The reason I ask is because I Corinthians 11:1 is not Jesus talking, you know that right? This is Paul (a man full of PRIDE) tells everyone here -Follow ME as I follow Christ- (beating on chest like tarzan) at the sametime admitting he is nothing more then a wretched man. Jesus however NEVER said "Follow Paul as he follows Me." Jesus said "Follow Me" I did not join this forum to debate with people. YOU seek, and you will find, YOU knock and the door shall be opened, YOU ask and it shall be given. I'm done discussing tongues, unless God tells me to do so. Your in my prayers, may I be in yours as well. God Bless.

My apology please, I guess I needed to be more clear on that. Just in case anyone else out there misunderstood my posts. Let me clarify............briefly. When the word said "These signs WILL follow those who believe." It is not referring to believing Jesus for SALVATION, it means believing that tongues is not past away, and believing it is for US TODAY. It means believing we will lay hands on the sick and they will recover, It means believing we have authority over satan and all his power, and we will cast out demons. Jesus said it, so I will believe it. Jesus instructed the disciples on how to do these things. So, we must be instructed also. Once more I feel the need to say, It's all about faith in God. Faith for:Forgiveness, Salvation,Baptism of the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues,Healing,Shelter,Food,Finances,Everything! We have to apply faith in God in every area of our lives. God responds to FAITH, not the need. God said I shall supply all your needs. We have to believe that He can be taken at His word, and that He has supplied all our needs. But, if you don't believe it, you'll never receive it.

Well, baptism doesn't save you. Baptism is a work like any other when it comes to the matter of our salvation--and we are not saved by our works or good deeds... we are saved by HIS singular WORK on the cross. We are saved by grace, through faith; not of works lest any man boast. So, you don't have to bet baptized again. If you have believed that Jesus died for your sins and that God has made a way through His Son to redeem your spirit... then you are saved. He is faithful to keep all of His promises, even when we are not.On a side note, try to read the Bible... and obey God. We don't obey a book, we obey a living God who loves us, and who has not abandoned us as orphans. He is with you wherever you go

.
Really impressed by your scripture quotes down below your comments. I'd love to add one thing in case some might have failed to understand how to live a life that it is Christ living in us or to be in Christ. Let's see how Paul made it.What Paul was speaking was the word of God (Ac13:44-45) after his repentance, for it was Christ speaking in him (2Co13:3). And what Christ speaks is the word (Rom10:17). Then what is speaking in Christ? All prophets were reavealed by the Spirit of Christ within them (1Pe1:10-12), and prophecy never came by human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from GOD (2Pe1:21), that's to say, to speak in Christ is to speak in the Holy Spirit. Therefore, to live a life that it is Christ living in us is to really follow the Holy Spirit.
