While we were out in town today we were approached by two Mormon missionaries. We told them we had been born-again Christians for a long time and my husband asked if they believed they would go to heaven. They told us that their place in heaven had to be earned through good works. What do you believe? True or false? Personally I believe it to be false and they are spreading a different gospel.

What does going to heaven even mean? As in...all dogs go to heaven? (A children's movie, I think)

People have little pieces of the truth. But things can be sorted.

Going to "heaven" is for right now. We can walk with Jesus in His habitation ...as a free gift. No one earns their way into the heavenly realm. It is by grace through faith.

But we will all be judged by our works...whether they were righteous or not. But that's at the end of our lives.

By faith we do the impossible right now. We can enter into His eternal life right now.

By a living hope we behave with righteousness so that we can hope for eternal life after this one.

And always in love. Faith, hope and love.

Mormon's are just religious people with an agenda...not unlike yourself. The truth is found only in Christ.
Some who say that they believe in Christ are not following what the Bible says. Mormonism is completely unlike Christianity.

Eph. 2:

5
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7
That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Yes agreed, it is the gospel of works plus they have all sorts of really weird teachings they follow that they try to keep hidden from the general public like all cults do.

Aware you say?!! You may be over-influenced by Augustine the Hippo.
You know nothing about me, but I see your distortions of the Bible scripture , I don't need Augustine all I need is ----the Bible. :D

If I said that (without bible reference markers) people would call me deluded and gnostic. But because people get indoctrinated to bible verses even while being inoculated from their meaning, they can read the bible and think they understand what is being conveyed. Truly remarkable how people have such a capacity for self-delusion.

Now if I said the very same thing using different wording...people act as if I was inventing things....when they are actually hearing the truth without the indoctrination factor.

So then being quickened to new life by the Spirit those who have the faith of Christ are translated into the kingdom realm in heavenly places in order to walk as Jesus walked. And this as a gift...without having to improve our carnal capabilities. It is a free gift. It is by grace. But the way there is very narrow and few will be able to let go of their own carnal thinking to become as little children...to believe that God can do as He says.

When I write down the truth without chapter and verse markers......who can recognize it? Such is the way of brainwashing. The crazy thing about brainwashing...is that you don't know you have been. You think it is your own reasoning.

You do not write truth and do not simply copy and paste verses. You rewrite them.

If more would put their understanding of the scriptures in their own words wouldn't that help sort out what they actually believe?

I rewrite them so that you don't understand them. What you don't realize is that you don't understand the verses I am paraphrasing.

You can read a verse like "we are seated in heavenly places in Christ"...and you agree because you recognize the verse...or you see the bible reference so you nod your head. But if I say..."those who are actually in Christ are translated into heavenly places" you will call that gnostic and unbiblical because I left out "seated" and there's no chapter and verse quotations. :) (you believe that the quotations give the words a special power...that the meaning of the words themselves cannot)

I go with what the Bible says.

Listen to all and check it against the Scriptures for validity. Then either ignore it or take it to yourself for knowledge and understanding.

It also says be prepared with an answer.

So, we need to know it in our brains and our hearts and then be able to to convey it to others.

It is a never-ending process. I have been doing it for 58 years and see no end in sight. The truth is so complex, yet simple, we just never get it completely right.
