1 corinthians 7:17-24Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. 18Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. 19Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God's commands is what counts. 20Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. 21Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord's freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave. 23You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. 24Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to.Heres the way I understand it: Who ever you are (Jew or Gentile)What ever customs you once followed (Circumcision or Not)What ever position of power you are in (Master or Slave)You have been called by GodGods calling (The payment you are bought with is Christs' blood) is OVER all these things that you once were in. No matter what position, tradition, type of people- Gods calling has perfect timing and accepts you no matter what path of life you were once in. Sometimes rough and difficult situations that people are in before Gods calling- can STILL be used for after Gods calling- usually making the person more appreciative or understanding of Gods grace and others.

Heres a good gen easy to understand comentary http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/another verse by versehttp://www.godrules.net/library/clarke/clarke.htmWhat it say about these versesVerses 17-24 The rules of Christianity reach every condition; and in every state a man may live so as to be a credit to it. It is the duty of every Christian to be content with his lot, and to conduct himself in his rank and place as becomes a Christian. Our comfort and happiness depend on what we are to Christ, not what we are in the world. No man should think to make his faith or religion, an argument to break through any natural or civil obligations. He should quietly and contentedly abide in the condition in which he is placed by Divine Providence.Which pretty much says what Red has said which I also agree with

Paul is saying,If you are a circumstised Jew, dont seek to be uncircumstised, If you are a uncircumstised Gentile, Dont seek to be circumstised.Because there in no virtue in circumstism now that we are in Christ, what God wants from us is to keep His word, and obet them. The Amplified Bible says about v 21, "If you were a slave when you were called, [Saved] , Dont let it trouble you, But if you are able to gain your freedom, Avail your self of the oppertunity".
