Are we commanded to study the Bible?
The Bible is the MIRROR OF THE SOUL

What does the Bible say---?

The KJV of the “bible” is a collection of around sixty (60) books bound into the Old and New testaments written over 2,000 years ago by different people.

Many of these verses cover God talking to one specific group of people and in one of those occurrences this is what was said---

(Ezek 36:17 KJV) Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their ..own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman.

(Ezek 36:18 KJV) Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it.

(Ezek 36:22 KJV) Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.

(Ezek 36:24 KJV) For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

The above verse came true in 1947ad & now it's judgement day

(Ezek 36:31 KJV) Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

(Ezek 36:32 KJV) Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel.

If they repent and ask the Lord for forgiveness, He will forgive them; if not, He will not

John 14:16 King James Version (KJV)
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

John 14:26 King James Version (KJV)
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Of course that presumes that you have studied so you know some words to be reminded of. It is interesting that the Comforter did not remind you that you were conflating two verses.

Yeah that certainly is my bad. I copied the right verse, but then when I inserted the chapter and verse, I put in the wrong numbers. I am still a very fallible man. There are good reasons I would guess as well as bad reasons for mistakes like this happening. God makes no mistakes... but me...? That is certainly another thing.

Are we commanded to study the Bible?
Yes.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom: 2Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction. 3For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires.…"

Yes we should study the bible, even memorise it, but that is not enough.

Don't forget Jesus never rebuked the scribes or the pharsees for the lack of biblical knowledge. He recognised they knew, had memorised chunks of it, that they studied it, but

They were not open to what it was saying beyond their own interpretation.

How often is that the case with us?

I'm not charismatic, I don't expect like samuel to hear a voice in the night, or like Paul to be caught up into the heavens.

But I do expect sermons, songs, prayers and especaily the bible to challenge me.

How do you approach bible reading or church services?

But God did.

Hosea 4:6 King James Version (KJV)
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

BIBLICAL RESEARCH PRINCIPLES

Knowing This First: All Scripture interprets itself:
1. In the verse:
a. Right where it is written.
b. A word or words must be interpreted according to Biblical usage.
c. The words must be in harmony with the verse as well as with all the scriptures relating to the subject.
d. Scripture build-up; narrative development.

2. In the context.

3. Used before.

Biblical truths we must adhere to as workmen:
1. Get "to whom" addressed correct (administrations).
2. Difficult verse must be understood in light of the clear verses.
3. Interpretation and application are always with respect to whom it is addressed.

Seven steps to Biblical accuracy:
1. The individual word must be understood.
2. The words must fit in the verse.
3. The verse must fit with the immediate context.
4. The immediate context must flow with the remote context.
5. The words must be understood in light of to whom it is written.
6. The words must be understood in light of orientalisms, customs, and mannerisms.
7. The words must be understood in light of figures of speech.

Reading for understanding: Ask yourself, "What is this verse saying?" To better understand what it is saying, ask yourself five other questions.
1. What is it not saying?
2. What is the opposite of what it is saying?
3. What is unusual about the way in which it is said?
4. What did it mean to the believers "to whom" it is addressed?
5. What does it mean to the believers today?

Some say no, just listen to the Holy Spirit.

What does the Bible say?
It is certainly useful for instruction.
But absolutely not required reading.

Romans 1:20
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Romans 2:1-29
Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. ...

John 15:22
If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.

My point is many are claiming the Bible says something quoting a verse does not say that by grammar or word meaning.

My point is many are claiming the Bible says something quoting a verse does not say that by grammar or word meaning.
Such things rely entirely on their training. Either by self or others. Nearly every Christian
rejects a couple of my central points becasue they have been trained in other ways.

For example, everyone rejects this passage absolutely:

Matthew 7:12
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you,
do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Everyone rejects that this is the summation or foundation for all articles of faith....yet that what it says.
They always have their pet-peeve "exceptions" to this rule.

That is a false claim.

That verse is a summation of all the laws given by God.

It is not about faith. It is about how we should live.

Thanks for proving my point so well.
The Bible "...is not about faith. It is about how we should live."
Please understand this. We'd don't all follow your version of reality.

Romans 1:17
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,
as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

Interesting you cut short the quote. is it enough only to study scripture, is there no responcibility to listen to what the spirit is saying as one studies it?

It is not about faith. It is about how we should live.

(Mal 3:5 KJV) And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

(Deu 24:19 KJV) When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.

(Deu 24:20 KJV) When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

(Deu 24:21 KJV) When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

(Jer 7:6 KJV) If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

(Jer 22:3 KJV) Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

(Ezek 22:7 KJV) In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow.

(Zec 7:10 KJV) And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

(Exo 22:21 KJV) Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

(Exo 23:9 KJV) Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

(Lev 19:34 KJV) But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

(Lev 25:35 KJV) And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee.

(Deu 1:16 KJV) And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

(Deu 10:18 KJV) He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

(Deu 10:19 KJV) Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
