Yeah, it really is an exercise in detachment. Not holding onto that need to be understood or to convince others, like a dog holding onto a bone.....good point

I think this also goes toward speaking truth in love. If our motive is to affirm ourselves, it will not be in love.

:eek: Oh but Prism, "reality" like sound doctrine is just too hard! It's a downer, it's bad news.
It's not playful and fun--it's all too dogmatic, and inflexible and doesn't feel all welcoming like what some equate love with.
The Bible scripture aka, the Truth is turned away from in the new politically correct inclusive spirituality, truth is optional--some named the Emergent church anything goes but the orthodox teachings. :(....conservative Christians need not apply.:(
'IMAGINE' if we'd just all go OMMMM into one big ecumenical puddle.

Anyone have examples from their lives of loving others through service? Or receiving love?

For a while I was a volunteer at a hospital. Geriatrics . Not an easy floor to work.
So many sad old people , many confused, but just sitting holding their hands when they were scared seemed to calm them.
Not a big deal, and I did not lead thousands to the Lord, but I was able to whisper to them about the love of God.
It is so easy to just 'drip Jesus' on people as we pass them throughout our life.
Sowing seeds is easy. God takes care of the rest.

And only time will tell.

Yes. Hospitals can be sad places. I think any human contact is comforting - giving some Christian encouragement is awesome

When I was a child, maybe 6 or so, my family was poor, and no father, and young children, so the garage was an absolute mess, the back yard completely overgrown, and group of man from a local church showed up one day. They chopped and hauled and cleaned and left it right and proper. A full day of hard work for 10 or 15 guys.

I remember one of them, when he was clearing out stuff from the garage, unleashed a hive a those giant black bees. One stung him in the middle of his back. His shirt was off as the day was hot. The welt covered his entire back! But he didn't stop.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was the church that put us kids on the list for Christmas presents. This was the church, I'm pretty sure, that was responsible for that big trash can showing up on our porch right before Christmas one year filled with food - not the expired weird stuff, but good food, and there at the bottom, the most amazing thing, this enormous canned ham!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This was the church that told me the Gospel when I was 3, so that when I was 19 and came to believe the Bible was true, I knew what to do.

This was love!

Much love!

Great story. It means so much when people reach out. I attend a Quaker church - the members are so giving. It makes a huge impact in the community

I remember it all to this day, and when I think of strength in the Lord, sometimes its that man with the bee sting I remember. That is love through suffering.

God is well able to look after His Words.

I se so many who seem to somehow believe that the bible says -

"In the beginning was the bible, and the bible was with God, and the bible was God."

The bible is not part of the godhead...even though many have raised it up as if it is!! The Word of God is part of the godhead!!!

If you really think that you can in any way defend Gods Words for Him...that is a very high opinion of yourself. News flash , God does it quite well, and has done so for thousands of years.
Banning, burning, or whatever. God has His own guardianship,and it is not US!!
I agree that God is well capable of doing His own defending but a minor point forgotten ...He uses us clay vessels to do His bidding...

2 Timothy 4:2-4 KJVS
[2] Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

As far as your dumb clip about 'In the beginning was the Bible', it's what we have as the sure written Word of God, just as if He spoke it, wrote it down, and handed it to mankind. How often Jesus said, "IT IS WRITTEN" against satan the enemy of God's Word. Yes the same enemy who mocks and would burn every Bible he could. So continue your belittling of God's written Word.

Sorry to tell ya... mysticism is a demonic trip

Do you ever stop with your jibes?

All Jobs so called 'comforters' were negative and gloomy. Until God put them in their place concerning Job.

Whenever you post, you sound just like one of them.
If someone says to you in the morning, "Isn't it a wonderful day". I am sure you would squeak out- "But I am sure it will rain this afternoon.".

You are obviously a "glass half empty" person... Bless your little cotton socks.

Wasn't it Job's comforters that tried psychoanalyzing Job, only to all be proven wrong?
