Galatians 2:20

20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

What does Paul mean "nevertheless I live; yet not I," extraordinary to say the least. What a statement, no where in your bible will you find another statement comparable to this statement. So what is the meaning of such a loaded verse as this; who is the "I" Paul is talking about? Adam, the old man Adam, the old sin nature that came inherently from Adam, dead, crucified with Christ on the cross. Wow what a liberating remark from the Apostle, the old man is dead and gone completely out of the picture.

Someone always wants to know why we sin? Why do people fall away, how come good people can do evil. Your mind, for the born again any way. It is a mental trait of the old way of doing things. Residue if you will, of the sin nature, Adam and all his mess. It's not your nature, you have the nature of God in you by Christ if your born again. Simple right, well not really because we are flesh and blood. Your flesh will always have an affinity for sin, it's just simple math. Paul used another term "but I thank God through Jesus Christ." Yes that's right there is your answer, your hope is in Jesus Christ. No other name that is named can set the captive free.

How does He do that, He does/did that by killing Adam. What did Paul say "I'm determined to know nothing but Christ crucified." Wonder why? It is where every ill of mankind is handled. No matter the situation, the cross is the answer for humanity, saint or sinner. That blood that was shed on calvary is more powerful today, yesterday, and forever. We have to know, it does not matter if you know the day rapture will take place and dont know about the power of the cross, your calculations are in vain. You can know the hour the anti-christ takes over and rules the world and don't understand Adams death on the cross, your doctrine is in vain.

Galatians 2:20 will be the answer for a lost world, saint or sinner through out eternity. It will never lose it's power. Your strength will fail, your vision will grow dim, your ministry will give in, but the cross did not fail. Some say we need a new bible to keep up with the times, and a few have succeeded in printing their own, but the cross did not fail. You have to see the cross before it can be preached. That was you on that tree, all in Adam, dead as Christ. For some reason we can not preach it like it is written.

Residue if you will, of the sin nature, Adam and all his mess. It's not your nature, you have the nature of God in you by Christ if your born again. A nice try...:) A residue? No...a crucified person is dead to sin. No twitching...no action at all.

Please consider that you are trying to do a doctrinal fix...leaving some wiggle room for the flesh to still operate in your post, by adding in your word residue.;)

Have you experienced being dead in Christ? Do you realize what Paul is testifying of? There is no sin in Christ. It is His life coming through the crucified person. IN Jesus is NO sin. You cannot sin IN Jesus...you must come out of the Spirit and back into your own control to sin...which we can do when we want to.

So then Gal. 2:20 is indeed far....farther than you think as well, it would appear. Farther than what you are trying to explain here.

We are to carry the DYING of Jesus so that His life is made manifest through us. We have then ceded control of our own lives over to God...to be empowered by His Holy Spirit. This is a fully miraculous walk. This is not a doctrinal position to hold while we walk in the power of the flesh. It is another realm.

To get to that place we must offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to God. IF (big if) God accepts our sacrifice He will crucify us with the power of the cross of Christ...and give us the grace to walk exactly as Jesus walked. In His resurrection power.

An identical walk as Jesus walked in an identical place (The kingdom in Zion). We can do this through Christ by the grace of God. Not by our own faith but by the strengthening of the faith OF Jesus Christ.

Seek the Lord on this.

Many blessings and Hi !

This truth you are putting forth is the very heart of our salvation; “our deaths in Christ”. Once this truth is seen to be what it is the Christians life will drastically change, from one from struggle to one of faith. For walking in a victorious Christian life is for all Christians for all time. For it is this truth you are putting forth that is the key that opens this door of freedom from sin; to walk in newness of life. The fact that when Jesus died we died. It is seeing this truth in its true meaning and depth. That all that was born in Adam, Christ took to the cross with Him.

For consider; how could you be guaranteed to never ever sin from now to all eternity? There is but one way, and that way is if you were to die. And Praise be to God this is exactly what our salvation in Christ consists of; when Christ died we died. For it is to the degree this truth is made real in a life will a believer be able to walk free from sin. The sinful nature remains very much alive but we have died to it. It is by being obedient to the command to “reckon ourselves dead unto sin and alive unto God” by faith will this freedom from sin be found.

For consider; if a person was to fall down dead right now, and in a few minutes Mr. Sin would come by a say “come on let’s go sin” the person would be incapable of responding to that temptation because they would be dead. This is exactly what we are told to do by “reckoning ourselves dead to sin” and than even more “only to reckon ourselves alive unto God.

But know this truth of being and reckoning ourselves dead to sin. will fail when tried to be used until a person is brought to the place where they truly would rather die than sin. For a person must be brought to the end of themselves first; to be willing to die to all of themselves for this truth to enter the heart, than joy and peace to a degree they will rejoice in God like never before.

But once a person is brought to this place, where they would gladly give up all of themselves to death rather than sin. Than this command to “reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive unto God, becomes the greatest and most glorious command ever given by God. The believer runs to it with their whole heart. They jump for joy at the prospect of being able to reckon themselves dead to sin and alive unto God, for they see in this truth is their freedom from sin going to be found.

Such a great and awesome truth this is, that we would all come to know this truth by experience. Blessings for bringing the subject up.

Blessings,

Much love in Christ, Not me

Amen!

This, and one of my favorite promises, "for the Lord our God is a consuming fire!" Burn it all away!

Much love!

We went though Galatians recently in our local church; it was a really good study... :)

Absulutely, reckoning is a mind work or issue of the mind. What I try to do is show the difference between soul and spirit and divide the two as the scriptures do. Same as rightly dividing the word, and to know when the scriptures are speaking directly to you as a message, not just life application or speaking to Israel as a nation. On another note; what part of California are you from, I grew up around San Bernadino, Riverside area.

To rightly divide the word of truth. :) Yes!

I'm hoping you're not just a biblicist who is looking for salvation in a book but an actual disciple of Christ. VERY rare these days.

I don't think people are agreeing with you the right way. The easy fix. These seek a way to continue to just keep doing what they have always done. No greater connection to God...no more power.

A disciple of Christ is looking for a closer walk with His Lord. Learning what those things are that are in the way so as to forsake them.

But it would take a lifetime to forsake every detail...as most people could confess...since so few have walked IN Christ so as to walk as He did. It is an eternal blessing to do so. But there is very little interest...even opposition to an exhortation to do so. Such is the times.

I responded honestly to your OP...the power of the cross. That is the power that Paul said separated him unto God to know the power of His resurrection. To count all as loss in order to gain Christ.

But we glory in the cross not in the death of Jesus...but in our own death..the power of which gives us access to His life.

Hello, thanks for responding; this, is what I was trying to add too also;

Separating or distinguishing between the soul and spirit is a great work. But I’m not to sure it can be taught outwardly though. I think it’s something God Himself has to open up in the heart of the believer. Like when you read a scripture a hundred times and the hundred and first all of a sudden God, as it were, turns the light on and you say “ahhh I see!” Your heart leaps for joy and you see something in a whole different light. Which is what goes with the scripture “in His light do we see light”.

This is what I tried to describe about/is what needs to happen with the truth of us being dead in Christ and reckoning ourselves dead to sin. It is much more than a mind thing, it’s a heart/light thing. For many people know of the truth about “reckoning ourselves dead to sin and alive unto God” is a spiritual doctrine and try as they might to be obedient to the scripture fail after fail as they fall back into whatever sin(s) plague them. It is when a person sees that only through they actually and really and truly dying can they come from under the power of their fallen nature. This is a something no man can show another man this is something that God has to open up in a believers life. But praise be to God, this God is continually doing, and trying to do, by bringing every person/believer to their wits end, with their struggle with sin. For it is only the realization that there is no earthly hope that is the hope that throws itself on God to do for them what they can not do for themselves.

If you wouldn’t mind me saying so I see a heart after God and truth in your writings, so if I may I’d like to encourage you in your faith, and walk with God. Keep asking, seeking, knocking as you have been doing for great and awesome is He that has called you to Himself and He has promised to perfect that which concerns us. So with a heart full of faith, hope and love we turn to the lover of our souls.

Blessings, my fellow laborer in Christ, keep pressing in.

Much love in Christ, Not me

Ps, I’m in the Mojave desert area, fixing to take a bike ride today, so I’m all sorts of happy.
