Prism, I have tried having a reasonable conversation with you, but it's gone no where. Have a nice day.
So you chose to back bite me behind my back instead? In my book, that is cowardice. Have a nice life.

I'm sorry if you were/are upset in any fashion.
I did my best to have a quality conversation with you, but felt it was going no where and am now tired of trying.

Actually I was just trying to help with my original point by saying, "We are not saved by our love, but by His"
Somehow it got blown up where even others were jumping in. Oh well, so be it.

Providing reasons for your faith, defending your faith, and exposing evil are not defending truth
Wrong, defending THEE faith & exposing evil is defending the Truth as scripture implores us to do. Here's the thing, you chose by your thoughts what you will believe, rather then submitting to the full counsel of God.
Scripture states it is given by God to testify of God & to teach us and sanctify us and if scripture says it that is exactly what we are to understand & do. Nothing was put in the scriptures by mistake "but all scripture is God-breathed....". The scripture tells us the Holy Spirit bears witness to the Truth.
God gives us free-will so it is optional for man to believe scripture, it's not mandatory. It's only by the grace of the indwelling Holy Spirit who testifies to us through GOD's Word.
However, you choose for yourself what you agree & what you obey or not out of the scriptures and That, is the difference between us. Those that also prefer their own thoughts, preferences, opinions & beliefs over scripture also salute you.
I see a strong correlation between not recognizing / defending the Truth and "not tolerating sound doctrine."

2Tim 3:16 "16 All Scripture IS God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.…"

2 TIM 4:3 " 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction.
3 For the time will come, when men will not Tolerate SOUND DOCTRINE, but with ITCHING ears they will GATHER AROUND THEMSELVES Teachers to suit Their Own Desires. 4 So They will Turn their ears Away From the TRUTH and Turn aside To Myths....."

I see a strong correlation between claiming a literal interpretation of the Bible - written by God, rather than simply inspired by God, and private interpretation of scripture

Yeah, it's easier to choose what you desire rather then what scripture teaches, that way you submit to your own rather then to GOD.
We can keep telling you the Holy Spirit does not contradict HIS word because GOD the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are ONE in essence and purpose. But , you will continue to attack those who are faithful to the literal word of God, who stand on sound doctrine and expose error but, you will defend those that represent every kind of false teaching, counterfeit cult and heresy.
For you the Bible doesn't represent the ultimate & single Divine authority.
But the Bible says , when we are born again the Holy Spirit that indwells us He testifies to the Truth because He is the author & creator of Truth.

So does that mean you are attacking me? Or is it just me attacking you? I thought we were having a spirited conversation. Also, you know why it is hard to believe literalists interpretation of scripture- you guys can’t even agree amongst yourselves

Now parrot the accusation that the RCC has taught you about the collective 'enemy' the protestants and frankly it's bs. & irrelevant to my statements, but it is entirely a predictable liberal pattern to bring in something completely unrelated to this exchange i.e, that "can't agree" bull.
You & those who spiritualize the bible do exactly what I said, attack those who point out error or heresies and you will slander those who believe in a literal interpretation of scripture, which BTW, means studying scripture by applying exegesis, understanding it within the context it is written, and within the historical context. But you run eagerly to show your support of false teachings, heresies , any teacher of another gospel or counterfeit christian cults. There you have it.

So this is attacking now, right?

Of course, attacking is the only thing you can do - talk about parroting the party line...lol. Pretending that everyone who studies exegesis CORRECTLY is going to agree on the OBVIOUS, CLEARLY written truth. I joined the Catholic Church as an adult partly to escape the mental gymnastics required to believe that nonsense, while ignoring the hundreds of denominations and disagreements over doctrine I listen to right down to the pew!

Why don’t you guys come to an agreement on the existence of Heaven and Hell first and then get back to me about literalism and agreement

There is no mental gymnastics, I have no clue what you belonged to , but it does not sound like you were saved at that time because it isn't a "mental agreement" or intellectual exercise that convinces us.
I'm not attacking you , I'm speaking in general Aspen , not specifically you, but this is the pattern across all these threads. Why you are so stubborn to not see it is beyond me.
It appears also, that you are under the impression that there is a corporate group of believers from specific churches or denominations that represents "the church", that is not how I see it. "The church" mentioned in the Bible is a spiritual church it is invisible at the moment, that God knows who the born again believers are from across all denominations and they represent His bride.
Does it mean all who claim to be Christians are saved and included as "the church"? --no, the bible says " no" some will say to Jesus "Lord, Lord!! .....and He will say ...I did not know you. "

Respectfully disagree as I see that approach as being spoon fed rather than learning to seek, dig, prepare, chew, and ruminate (ponder). When you stand before God on Judgment Day, will your excuse be, "My Church taught me so"?

Yes, the RCC, for as long as there has been an RCC (began about 500 A.D. no matter what the RCC says) has added to the Bible. If you challenge an RC on all sorts of anti-Bible teaching, they always have pat answers. I could recount dozens of ways that the RCC departs from Scripture but it wouldn't do anything toward correcting it.

Just the fact that Scripture is not their final arbiter should be warning enough.

Meditating on the scriptures is new age?
The way Lectio Divina does it, it is new age/mysticism.
Meditatio: the next step is meditation but not meditation as we normally would understand it. Boa describes meditation as “a spiritual work of holy desire and an interior invitation for the Spirit to pray and speak within us (Romans 8:26-27).” [28] Two brief thoughts before we move on. First, note the misinterpretation of Romans 8:26-27 which is virtually universal in mystical literature. The text does not promise that the Holy Spirit will speak to us in prayer but that He will intercede with the Father for us as we pray. This is an important and often overlooked point.

Lectio Divina is a Benedictine practice of meditating on scripture that has been practiced for centuries before the Reformation

Yes. The reason why a non-literal interpretation of the Bible is so dangerous is that it takes the purifying fire out of the gospel. When the Bible is spiritualized, reading and studying it becomes a mere intellectual exercise--lacking convicting power toward repentance. Salvation does not come with the mere agreement on what constitutes sin and that we should refrain from it. Sincere grief over sin--a "cutting to the quick" causes true repentance--which is part of the salvation and sanctification process. "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9) Again, coming to true repentance, through the convicting power of the Holy Spirit, is an integral part of the granting of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit (without which, we are "none of His"--Romans 8:9). Peter spoke to the "God-fearing" crowd at Pentecost: "Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit'." (Acts 2:38) Doing the task of "penance" on a rosary does not accomplish true repentance.
