I believe that some of if not the most important scriptures in the Bible is that of the great commission.
Right before Christ ascended to heaven he gave the apostles his last commission. These are his last wishes so to speak. If ANYBODY wants to be saved then these words are extremely important. We find three main accounts in Mt, Mk, Lk. Let’s see what we can learn from these accounts.

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Luke 24:46-47 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

When we look at the highlighted words we can know what christ expected when it comes to our salvation....
First we learn that Christ has ALL authority, which means anything we do in religion must come from his direction (which is only found in the NT, not given to us directly today)

Christ wanted.....
...The gospel preached Mk 16:15, Lk 24:46 (death burial resurrection Lk 24:46)
...To ALL nations (Jew and gentile) Mt 28 Lk 24
...The gospel believed. Mk 16:16
...Obedience Mt 28:19
...Repentance. Lk 24:47
...Baptism in water. (We know it’s water because man is commanded to administer it and man cannot administer HS baptism) so much for being all alone and walking out saved. Mk 16:16; Mt 28:19
...Remission of sins (acts 2:38, ac 22:16, Rom 6:17,18 connect this to water baptism) Lk 24:47
...Teaching to observe ALL things Mt 28:19
And all of this would have a beginning. Lk 24:47. That beginning took place in Jerusalem on Pentecost in acts 2.

If anybody wants to be saved then all these things must be observed...
hearing, belief, repentance, obedience, baptism, and teaching must take place in order for that to happen. These are words directly from Christ. It was his will that these things be spread to all the world and it is without dispute. Is it any coincidence that this is exactly what we find in example after example of people being converted.
But for some reason people have seen fit through the years to basically remove all of the above and somehow be saved, having their sins removed, by going up front at a Billy Graham crusade, somehow being baptized with the HS, or on their bed, all by themselves.
The great commission cannot be fulfilled all alone. That is an impossibility. So much can be learned from a study of the great commission. I pray you will study and consider what these important passages are teaching us.

If baptism saves, why did Paul say at one point; I'm glad I baptized none of you? I came to preach the gospel...Cornelius wasn't baptized when the Holy Spirit fell on him. No water baptism necessary there either. Works and rituals don't save, believing does. Baptism is the step of obedience we take after we are saved.

Read the context of 1 Cor 1. They were dividing up by who baptized them and Paul didn’t want any part of it. He then goes on to remind them that they were not “of Paul” or “of Cephas” but “of Christ”. Why? Because Christ was crucified for them and they had been baptized in the name of Christ. Not Paul. This passage actually teaches the importance of water baptism. For them to be “of Christ” or belong to Christ they needed to be baptized in water in the name of Christ. Where did they get this authority? From Christ in the great commission.
Cornelius was baptized in water. He was commanded to immediately do so. Christ in the great commission said...
He that believes and is baptized shall be saved.
So, when was Cornelius saved? After belief and baptism. That’s what Jesus teaches. I’ll believe him over you. Thank you for the response though.

Acts 10
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were greatly astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, 46 for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, 47 “No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit fell on those who heard the message, not those who were baptized. Baptism was offered to those 'who have received the Holy Spirit.' Baptism comes after one is saved, not before.

Here we go again with the blind attempting to lead

Jesus did not say to be baptized in water. YOU did. Here is our only need for actual water in salvation:

John 3:5
"Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."

...On the contrary, He did not add "Oh, and one must also be baptized in water" -- YOU did.

As for what Jesus meant when referring to water, He meant it symbolically, meaning "in spirit":

John 4:13-25
"Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." 15 The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw." 16 Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here." 17 The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You have well said, 'I have no husband,' 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly." 19 The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship." 21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

Should we do all these things? Yes! Absolutely! These things are the very fruit of faith commanded by Scripture. The problem I have with you though, is that you make these things a salvation deal-breaker. You add to the Gospel by failing to distinguish between faith and the fruit of faith. Your inordinate preoccupation with the fruit of faith has you treading dangerously on the unholy grounds of works-salvation. You need to discover that there are proper distinctions to be had here.

I already gave you Scripture to prove that being all alone and without water baptism did not prevent a publican (tax collector) from bring saved.

The purpose of water baptism (which is indeed a commandment of Christ) is not be saved, but TO PUBLICLY CONFIRM that one is saved and obedient to Christ. Here is an excellent example.

ACTS 8
THE GOSPEL WAS FOUND IN ISAIAH 53

34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

THE GOSPEL WAS PREACHED BY PHILIP
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

THE EUNUCH WAS SAVED, THEREFORE HE ASKED THE CORRECT QUESTION
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

CHRISTIAN BAPTISM IS ONLY FOR THOSE ALREADY SAVED
37(a) And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.

THE EUNUCH DID BELIEVE WITH ALL HIS HEART
37 (b) And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

CHRISTIAN BAPTISM WAS ADMINISTERED
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

SALVATION AND BAPTISM RESULTED IN JOY
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

Baptismal regeneration was first promoted by the Catholic Church. The Protestant Reformers understood that it was false, but continued to baptize babies and infants. Now a few cultish groups promote this idea.

Same old, same old - this is not really study is it- it's one person standing on a platform, proclaiming a message and saying ' you need to fall in line with me '
Good study, for me, is when we actually look at a passage or verse with the aim of learning and reflecting........ So many threads are started by those who have no inclination to learn - all they want is to repeat what they have already stated endless times in other threads.
Do people actually believe that the more times they hear something the more likely it is that others will take on board what they are saying............. Or perhaps if something is worded in a different way that the readers will not get that it's all about the same thing !
How boring to want to discuss the same old thing over and over again !

The order is found in Acts 2.41-42. Faith, then baptism and steadfast continuance.

This is what Paul says.

1 Cor 1
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel.

He differentiates the gospel and baptism. If baptism were necessary (and its not) then he would not have made this claim. Cornelius was saved the second he placed his faith in Jesus and he was filled with the Spirit.
Paul in 1 Cor 1:17 was using a figure of speech referred to as a NOT/BUT construction. Emphasis is placed on one area over the other. It DOES NOT mean the other thing mentioned is not important or not needed. Let’s compare examples and see if your logic holds up.

1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
You say....baptism is not “necessary”. But that’s not what Paul said. He is emphasizing the importance of preaching the gospel. Without the preaching of the gospel we would not even know of baptism.

John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
Using basic logic...
You say....working for our own food is not necessary. But that’s not what Jesus said. He is putting the emphasis on working/laboring for spiritual food that will lead to everlasting life. Is the first one important and necessary? Absolutely. If you don’t labor for real food you will die.

1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
You say.....loving through what you say is not necessary. But that’s not what John said. He is putting the emphasis on showing your love, not just saying it. If you are married, try going without saying loving things to your wife for a while and see how that goes. If I don’t tell my wife daily that I love her she notices.

I hope this helps you understand. It’s not your fault you have just been taught wrong through the years.

The HS here had no bearing on their salvation. It was to convince Peter and the other Jews that gentiles were to be accepted just as the Jews.
Acts 11 tells us that it would be “WORDS” that would save Cornelius. How many words? Which words of Peters sermon can be omitted? He commanded baptism. Don’t those words count? Also the text tells us that the HS fell on Cornelius....”as Peter began to speak”. So they had not even heard any words. I’m gonna stick with what the Bible says rather then you.

No I didn’t...Jesus did...
He that believes AND IS baptized shall be saved. It was Jesus that placed salvation AT THE END.

It was Jesus that guided Peter to tell those on Pentecost to repent, be baptized for remission of sins. It wasn’t me. When does sin removal/salvation take place? AT THE END.

It was Jesus that sent Ananias to Saul and tell him to arise, be baptized and wash away thy sins. It wasn’t me. When were his sins washed away? AT THE END.
Stop acting like I’m making this stuff up.

You just made that up. You should be ashamed.
Show me where it says......”the Eunuch was saved”. If you can’t do it then apologize to everybody for purposely misleading us.

CHRISTIAN BAPTISM IS ONLY FOR THOSE ALREADY SAVED
37(a) And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.

THE EUNUCH DID BELIEVE WITH ALL HIS HEART

Again...show me in the text where it says...the Eunuch was saved and submitted to “Christian baptism”? Then show me where baptism is EVER referred to as “Christian baptism”. This display of yours is why we have all the misunderstanding today because of such a blatant false teaching of a biblical passage.

Good study, for me, is when we actually look at a passage or verse with the aim of learning and reflecting........
Is this not what I did? I posted each passage of the great commission and made reference to each verse. Reading, learning, and reflecting on these very important words given by the Lord.
I have invited for others to make their comments on each verse as well. You are welcome to break down each verse, in study, and show where I may be right or wrong. It would be good for you to use other passages as well to support your position. Is that not Bible study? I think what you are really saying is you don’t like to be challenged.

You now have two threads going and no understanding of this one point: the waters of John the baptist's baptism were liquid, but the waters which Christ spoke of are spirit.

And you assume too much, thinking as a man thinks: "Man CANNOT baptize with the HS." How foolish can you be...did Christ give us water from the world to baptized into it again? No! He gave us water birth, and spiritual birth--that is the baptism which He gave (according to scripture, by John the baptist). But no, you expect to return to your mother's womb and to wallow in the mire of the world and it's water, when we have been given spiritual water.

Such [spiritual] water does not flow in streams--it falls from above. Immersion in water is the gift of God into our own sin, that we might see the error of our way, to experience our captivity, and to be born again of the spirit of God and be free, to be born also out of the world. If you will baptize with water--pray also that you be delivered from it, commending your spirit unto the Father just as did Christ. This is what it means to "follow" Christ. But men for 2000 years have not understood and have returned to wallowing in the mire.

That remark is laughable. It is Jesus Himself who declared that man to be justified. That should be sufficient for anyone.

If you could not even figure that out, there is no point in you discussing this subject. Unbelievable.

Paul in 1 Cor 1:17 was using a figure of speech referred to as a NOT/BUT construction. Emphasis is placed on one area over the other. It DOES NOT mean the other thing mentioned is not important or not needed. Let’s compare examples and see if your logic holds up.
Do you know what a figure of speech is? He is not using a figure of speech. He says plainly 'I didn't come to baptize, but preach the gospel.' He makes a clear delineation between baptism and the gospel. If water baptism were necessary it would be included in the gospel. Its not.

Secondly, I never said its unimportant or not needed. Have those quotes handy? I said its a step of obedience. Obedience is important, yes?
1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
You say....baptism is not “necessary”. But that’s not what Paul said. He is emphasizing the importance of preaching the gospel. Without the preaching of the gospel we would not even know of baptism.
Context, context, context. I never said baptism isn't necessary. Its not necessary FOR SALVATION. Its not part of the gospel and getting sprinkled or dunked never saved a single soul.

Where did I say this? Nowhere that's where. But that also isn't the context of my statement. If you want to cite me or understand my comments you would have said; 'working for your own food in not necessary FOR SALVATION.' Physical food can't get you to heaven any more than physical water being sprinkled on you. Thanks for letting me clear that up.

Again, you fail to understand simple conversation. Loving only is what James talks about. As a believer we show our salvation/justification by what we do, not simply by what we say. Wrong again.

I hope this helps you understand. It’s not your fault you have just been taught wrong through the years.
I hope this helps you understand the full context of my statements.

The HS here had no bearing on their salvation.
Wow, the Holy Spirit has no bearing on salvation?? Just when you think you've heard it all.
It was to convince Peter and the other Jews that gentiles were to be accepted just as the Jews.
Peter didn't need convincing. Read Eph 1, the Holy Spirit is given, we are sealed and baptism always follows salvation.

No it says 'while he was speaking'. And who cares? People are convicted and can be born again before, during or after a message is given. The Holy Spirit blows where He wills, whenever He wills. The message doesn't have to be completed before a person repents and receives Jesus as their savior.

Nice commentary. No scripture to support any of that.
So when Christ commanded that men baptize in the name of the father, son, and HS; in what element were they to do it in? It can’t be Spirit because we are told that it is Christ who baptizes with the Spirit. What are we as men supposed to baptize with?
When Christ then commanded Peter to command those on Pentecost to be baptized; what element was that in? It wasn’t Spirit because he promised them the gift of the Spirit after baptism.
Are you saying there is NO water baptism today at all?
