The conclusion of the whole matter is to only speak for yourself, but to keep his/Jesus saying, that we all not only hear his sayings/commandments, which is the bottom line and which is the whole duty. Ecclesiastes 12:13, 14
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 13Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. 14For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. And in our opinion, this is what the Lord was saying in John 14:15
That's correct, by His judgment, to believe in is Son or not, nullifies every good DEED, BY WAY of THE LAW and every evil DEED BY WAY of THE LAW, and therefore in comparison to HIS GIFT of HIS Righteousness, BOTH fall extremely short of it!!

Now, if you can, please explain Mat. 5:20, in conjunction with Rom. 8:9.
If you can't, then you see yourself as being "great" in your own eyes through Law Keeping, and are parading around in your OWN self righteousness, which is of the Law, and is NOT The Righteousness of God!

James 2:20-21
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
(NKJ)

Okay, then how do you explain this?
He was accounted righteous before God several years earlier, BEFORE the birth of Isaac, and before he had done anything to "prove" his faith in God. Check it out in Genesis 15;4-6 below..

Genesis 15:4-6
4 And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir."
5 Then He brought him outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."
6 And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
(NKJ)

It seems that God accounted him righteous solely for his faith in His Promises, and not by anything that he did. There is nothing in Genesis 15 that mentions any works that Abraham did. Paul accurately reports this. It seems that James did not consider the account in Genesis 15. It was not until Genesis 22, many years after Isaac was born, when Abraham was well over 100 years old, that he agreed to offer Isaac.

James writes:
22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.
23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.
24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.

Neither of those last two statements are in the Genesis 15:4-6 account.
Nowhere does the OT Scripture say that Abraham "was called God's friend" BECAUSE he was willing to offer up his son Isaac. In Isaiah 41:8 it states that God called Abraham His friend but nowhere in the context of the chapter does He say it was because Abraham offered up his son Isaac.

What James wrote, as shown above, are direct contradiction of the Gospel that Paul taught and the account given in Genesis 15:4-6. Abraham was righteous before God solely because he believed God’s promises.

The religious who advocate works can argue this until they are blue in the face but it does not change the FACTS as shown in Genesis.

In my opinion the book of James is devoid of the gospel of grace as taught by Paul.

However, it was compatible with the law of Moses. Since the word of God has to be based on truth, I find the book of James is not based on FAITH in Christ’s work on the cross but only on works of the law and is not for this age of God’s grace. The very fact that it was addressed to Jews (James 1:1) is more proof that it was only for the Jews who were under the law.

It remains to be seen that the religious will try to destroy what I have written by attacking me, personally, and it will show that they want people to believe we are under the law in this age of God’s grace. They can easily attack me but they can not say that the scriptures I have presented do not say what I have reported them to say.

Under grace a person must place their faith (belief) in God’s promise of salvation based on their belief in what He (Jesus) did on the cross where He paid for the sins of the whole world. Through the gospel of grace that was given to Paul God, Himself, paid for the sins of the world and a person has to believe it to have salvation. If they do not then they are condemned because they do not believe God.

Your judgment of James is too rash, simply basing it on your Hyper-Dispensationalist grace teachings from men which really aren't even written in God's Word.

James did not imply that works save us. He never discounted the idea of Faith, but you're claiming he did.

To prove what James was saying, one only need to recall Jesus' warning about the unprofitable servant...

Matt 25:24-30
24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

JBF quoted:
Mat 7:23, And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
.
God's Grace replied:

Iniquity is deeper than lawlessness...it is the sin that exists at the very core level, in the heart. Jesus said to make the inside of the cup and platter clean so that the outside may also be clean.
To practice iniquity is to practice lawlessness.
He who practices lawlessness is practicing iniquity.

Iniquity means a lot of sinning, to the point that it changes a person.
.
Earburner's response:
What no one here is understanding is this:
Jesus said: "There are none that are good [Righteous], but God".

Therefore, the conclusion is:
if one DOES NOT HAVE the Righteousness (Goodness) of God within them, they will NEVER be "good" enough to be IN the KoG!!
That is what Mat. 5:20 is all about, and that is what Rom. 8:9 explains, if YOU DON'T have His "Goodness".
Without His "Good" within you (the Holy Spirit),
You will be a "worker of iniquity (Law Breaker) ALWAYS, no matter how perfectly you are at Keeping the Law. Your form of "good" BY the Law, is never equal to His "Good" (Righteousness) of himself.
NEVER!
Agreed !

No amount of good works will save a person.

Do you know how to use the quote feature?
It's easy...

Jesus said, "Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.” (John 14:21) He also said that loving God and our fellow men is the summation of the law and the prophets. One might perform good deeds in the course of loving others but there is no particular requirement for this. Loving God and loving others is the fruit of salvation--not the other way around. We are not here to satisfy the requirements of the Law but those who are truly in Him, fulfill the "royal law of love".

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." Putting one's faith in Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away sin, is the only requirement for salvation and salvation is an irrevocable gift. "For the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable..." (Romans 11:29) Why have you chosen "God'sGrace" as your username and then been so quick to reject the concept? Grace is NOT grace if it must be earned in any way.
Another fine example of persons that want to accept Jesus as Savior but will not accept Him as their Lord.

Thomas said: My God and My Lord.

Do you know what Lord means?
I'm not going to say much more.

I would like to direct you to the gospels so you could find out ALL THE LAWS Jesus told us to keep.

You spoke of the Royal Law of Love.
The word LAW is in the title.
If you keep the Royal Law of Love is that not a work?

John 14:21
John 15:10
1 John 5:3

John, the disciple who loved Jesus and understood Him in a spiritual way more than the others speaks constantly of how we are to keep the commandments of Jesus.

I like to believe what the bible tells me.

WHO is mixed up?
You were unable to answer a simple question that required a one word answer.

The answer is YES.
We are required to obey God AFTER we're saved.

I've posted so much scripture that is rejected.
How do you understand this:
John 3:36
Lol, it depends on what you mean by obeying God. I think you are saying we have to keep the law.

Lol, it depends on what you mean by obeying God. I think you are saying we have to keep the law.

The NT Book of Galatians is one of the foundation Books of Christian doctrine. So you cannot just throw it out in favor of some Dispensationalist secret rapture theoreticians. I've already noticed in another thread you have a problem with Galatians 3 where Paul taught about our Faith being the same Faith on the Promise that Abraham believed, and thus those in Christ have become the children of Abraham. That's because of those doctrines of men you're following that's part of the so-called Grace Movement.

Apostle Paul did not teach that all of God's law is dead for the Christian. He taught that we... are dead to the law IF... we walk by The Spirit.

Gal 5:16-18
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulful the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

KJV

Notice that Paul gave a condition there. I put that "if" there in red to show it.

IF... we heed The Holy Spirit, walking by The Spirit, then we are not under the law. That's because doing the good things in Christ are aligned with God's laws, simple as that. (Not all of God's laws were nailed to Christ's cross. Col.2)

In 1 Timothy 1, Paul once again reveals this matter. He tells Timothy that the law wasn't made for the righteous, but for the wicked, and then Paul proceeds to list laws from the OT Books that are still... in effect today against works of the flesh among the rebellious among God's people. But again, IF... we walk by The Spirit, we will not fall subject to those laws that are against the works of the flesh.

Since you still is on God Law, we are not soo great as you makes things, but there is one great Law giver, and that is GOD, Which is able to give all peace.

Psalm 119:165
165Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

  1. Galatians 6:9-10
Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

    Matthew 5:38-48

"You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.' "But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. "If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.

    Luke 6:27-36

"But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. "Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.

    1 Peter 3:8-13

To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. For, "THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS, MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT.

    Psalm 34:12-16

Who is the man who desires life And loves length of days that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.

    Hebrews 13:16

And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

    1 Peter 2:20

For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.

    1 Peter 3:17

For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.

    John 5:28-29

"Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

    Luke 6:35

"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.

    Romans 2:5-11

    But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;

    1 Timothy 6:17-19

Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.

    2 Timothy 2:20-21

Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

    James 2:14-21

What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?

    James 3:13

Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.

    2 Corinthians 9:8

    And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;

    Acts 9:36

Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which translated in Greek is called Dorcas); this woman was abounding with deeds of kindness and charity which she continually did.

    Philippians 2:12-13

So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

    Colossians 1:10-12

so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

    Ephesians 2:10

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

    2 Timothy 2:21

Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

    2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

    1 Peter 2:13-15

Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance

    And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;

Amen

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: Christian Standard Bible. For a command is a lamp, teaching is a light, and corrective discipline is the way to life. Contemporary English Version. The Law of the Lord is a lamp, and its teachings shine brightly. Proverbs 6:23 For this commandment is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way to life,
Mathew 5:14-16
14“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
15nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus Himself said that we are to be a light to the world...
that it is to be seen by men in such a way that they could see our good works, and in that way glorify our Father in heaven.

You put a lot of thought into this.
I'll answer later if I have time....

No more thought than what I had already put into it in my normal time in meditating on the scriptures. I look forward to your answer!

LOL
OK
I'll answer to this too.
But not now!

I look forward to your answers.

So then this persons salvation is NOT by faith alone because repentance is required.

Consider that a living faith in Jesus will produce the fruit of repentance.

Tit 3:5, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Tit 3:6, Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

This "washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost" amounts to making the person into a new creature in Christ...the old has gone; behold, all things are become new! (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is a cleansing of the inside of the cup and platter in order that the outside may also become clean.

Often this involves making a 180-degree turn as a decision made by the sinner; but sometimes the turnaround can be defined not as "repentance" because it is a work of the Holy Spirit wherein the sinner is simply no longer attracted to the old things...he realizes that those things don't satisfy. He has the living water and does not need to attempt to quench his thirst with the toilet water that this world has to offer. See John 6:35, John 4:13-14, John 7:37-39.

I suggest really reading these scriptures and understanding them, in light of the concept that real obedience stems out of love rather than obligation.
