I don't begrudge anyone money - that's what capitalism is about; it's a motivator.
Capitalism does not apply in Christian ministry for the simple reason that the Gospel is not merchandise and no one is authorized to make a profit for personal gain from the Gospel. Quite the opposite.

Paul repeatedly tells those who would be elders (evangelists, pastors, and teachers) that they are not to serve for "filthy lucre's" sake. What did he mean? He did not mean receiving adequate compensation, but making merchandise of the Gospel.

Contemporary English Version
A lot of people try to get rich from preaching God's message. But we are God's sincere messengers, and by the power of Christ we speak our message with God as our witness. (2 Cor 2:17)

I couldn't agree with you more about socialism.
As to the appearance of evil....I don't think a big house is the appearance of evil.
A poor person might think I have a big house....Or you.
I'm good with it.

Yes they're really pushing socialism in America now - I'm glad I'm on my way out.

By appearance of evil I meant the Osteen's hobnobbing with Lady Gaga. She was shouting profanity and espousing things condemned in the Bible.

I can see meeting people where they're at - to save souls you have to go where they are, not stay in your church. But I don't know if that's what they're doing.

That doesn't mean Osteen has the evil motives that everyone seems to think.

True. He is probably sincere.
But he is misguided and dragging a lot of people with him.
The blind leading the blind.

But of course I could be wrong.

I listened to him a few times, and I make it a point not to do that again.
I did like listening to his dad though.

I've had my doubts about Osteen for a long time but I read today that he and his wife attended an affair - by invitation only - to see Lady Gaga perform. The entire show was against everything that the Bible teaches. The verse came to mind: "Can two walk together except they be agreed?" and "What fellowship hath the light with the darkness?"

I agree with Osteen that every person is made in the image of God and every single person on the face of this earth should be treated with respect and dignity. My views align with him there 1000% I could never stand to see a human or an animal abused.

But Osteen is living in a mansion while there are people in America who can't afford basic necessities. It's hard to take a pastor seriously who thinks that he should take of the donations to his church and build himself a mansion instead of using the money to feed the hungry, clothe the poor, or give shelter to the needy.

Granted he probably uses his house for church meetings but it's excessive. There are other questionable things that I've read about Osteen, such as his refusal to open the church for people who needed shelter during the flood.

Have other doubted that Osteen is a true believer? What are your thoughts on him and/ or this article:

‘Are You Ready to [Expletive] Party Tonight?’ Joel and Victoria Osteen Attend Lady Gaga Concert, Pose for Sirius/Pandora Merger

Well there are tonnes of Christians that attend concerts like those. I personally am not a fan of Lady Gaga, it's not my taste of music, she is quite political in the extreme left wing, and it's disappointing to see more musical artists to openly express views that go against the Word of God, but it's expected though, as a Country fan it's even been disappointing to see modern Country music going downhill as well, but that's expected too, if I ever got pretty good at banjo, I would want to be making Country n Bluegrass Gospel music albums haha, as I think there is a need for more of that in Australia, however putting those views aside.

Without being legalistic or going into too much detail, just keeping it simple, I do believe Joel Osteen is a Christian, I do believe God placed him in the Church he is today, even though he's messages are more motivational speaker like than preacher like, he reaches millions of people worldwide through the tv & internet and he does have the Salvation prayer at the end of each of his services, asking people to invite Jesus into their heart and make Jesus their Lord and Saviour in their lives.

On a separate note, my opinion on these big megachurches, even though some of the preachers may preach some good messages and some are Spirit Filled Megachurches, the little men and women still get lost in the crowds, ignored, and they quite often get left out, there's not the same sense of fellowship as they would get in a small Church. And also a lot of mega preachers, they don't go touring the small towns, they stick to the big main cities.

And bravo to our Prime Minister for praying over the nation at the Hillsong Conference, but then the news presenter goes onto say the tickets are $370 AUD per adult, did my research and found out that was indeed true.
