Consider the actions here, pointer. Why would a cup that Jesus gave to drink for his blood be the cup that he wanted God to take away from him later at Gethsemane? Why would Jesus ask for God to take away something that he had given others? The answer is simple. They're not the same cup. The importance of this cup that Jesus was praying about can be seen because this is the cup that is poured out on the day of the Lord. This is a very specific day spoken of in Psalms 75 in which Jesus the Christ will return, not as a babe lying in a manager but as the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He will judge and he will pour out the wrath of that cup:Revelation 14:7-10Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:Romans 2:16In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.John 5:22For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
