The idea of literal cannibalsim of my Savior turns my stomach. I do believe in the Lord's Supper, but as symbols of His body and blood for what God has done for us to remember what He did.

The John 6 references to partaking of Him are figurative of faith in the Lord Jesus.

Another good aspect; but I was thinking particularly of the eating and drinking as a faith picture.

Above all the poor need the Word of life, right? :)
Absolutely, when Paul addresses Corinth he says addressing the table, the poor are being neglected. Do you believe he’s referring to literal food?

If I am in the body of Christ do you partake of me?
Hi Waiting,

You pose a very good question.....One I had never thought of.....

Scripture says that the individual members of the Church are the body of Christ: For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. . . . Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church.”

Individually WE represent His body (His presence) here on earth as the Church. WE are members of the body of the Church.

The Eucharist, of which we partake, is His true body/blood, just like he said at the Last Supper AND He said that we must partake of to have eternal life in the Bread of Life discourse.

BTW.....Why are you "Waiting on him"? Do you not believe He is present? Or does that refer to the 2nd coming?

He is already inside me so why would I need to eat him? I eat the bread and drink the wine in remembrance of him and also to "proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes." as it says in
1 Corinthians 11:26
For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

I am not a Catholic so therefore I do not believe Jesus meant that the bread and wine are literally his body and blood. I believe it is symbolic and not literal. But no doubt there will be many who will disagree as usual.
Hi Pearl,

We do PROCLAIM it and PRACTICE it just like the NT Christians did and the Apostolic Fathers did. You are looking at one word (proclaim) and making it your belief when there are MANY other words that refute your belief.

Proclaiming is the action....not the belief!!

1 Corinthians 11:24

Using this logic is the Church broken for us? Rather I think the flesh of Jesus is made one with the Church as it is in marriage.
Hi if or rest,
Ephesians 4:16 KJV
[16] From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." (Proverbs 4.23)
Hebrews 4:12 KJV
[12] For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
