Exodus 31:14-17 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. [15] Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord : whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. [16] Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. [17] It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

^ first notice in the above passage on the Sabbath Rest ...that it is a sign between God and the children of Israel. As circumcision in the flesh was a sign of what was to come being the circumcising of a heart by the Hand of God. Now, circumcision availeth nothing but a New Creature born of God. There was no way in the Old Testament for man to circumcise his own heart although God commanded it to be so. It wasn’t until Christ, was THE way always foreshadowed in the OT made possible in the NEW. That which was not possible of man to remove the foreskin of the heart, made possible by God: the vail removed to reveal the Son of God. THE “circumcision made without hands” being a work of God alone.

With this in mind, we are given another SIGN in six days man does his own works(labour)...yet on the Seventh day man is commanded to cease from man’s own works and to do only the Will and Works of God. To be refreshed. It was a sign of what was to come, in man in the Old Testament could not “enter into His Rest” even though it was commanded of God; man was to enter in to be refreshed in His Rest. Isaiah 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Matthew 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

In every single use of entering into His rest to be refreshed...always it is also mentioned the Sabbath and; Six days man does his own works...but on the Sabbath Day Rest of God man ceases from all his works to fully submit to the Will of God and to do God’s Works. Consider what Paul said of (paraphrasing) “you have had enough time to serve yourself. Today serve God.” Many may say the gentiles are not to keep the Sabbath Rest or they die as God said...but that is not exactly true. ALL men are to cease(halt) from their sinful works and enter into Him.

As circumcising the foreskin in the flesh ...it becomes: one must be circumcised of the heart with the circumcision “made without hands”. So also ALL men must enter into the Rest(refreshing) for the people of God mentioned over and over: and keep the Rest of God Holy without doing man’s own works BUT instead doing God’s work and Will. As Jesus said: Father, not my will but Your Will be done.

Keep the Sabbath Rest ...or die.

It is the outward man who dies...he (the outward man)can not and will not keep the Sabbath Rest ...Jesus Christ said one must put (the old man)to death. He is dead. “whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.” This dead man crucified with Christ is cast off, Perishing and his work must cease. one must crucify his own works of idolatry, adultery, maliciousness, all things against God where it becomes “not I” but “God lives in me and the work I do is of God who lives within me, and not my own” As circumcision in the flesh serves no longer, nor profits anything...but a New Creature born of God ...so also the sign of the Sabbath does not profit but the entering in of Christ and God’s works prepared for the “rest” “refreshing” of the people of God. Consider how pointless and unprofitable it is to circumcise a dead thing, something dissolving and passing away. How pointless it is to observe the sign of the physical Sabbath when what is truly needed and commanded, now that the way (Christ) has been revealed, IS one must enter into “faith” in The works prepared of God for those Who love Him and keep His commands. One must enter into this everlasting Rest and cease from ALL man’s dead works on the six days by (take up your cross and follow Me), and enter into the seventh day Rest, the Holy day, kept and sanctified by Christ, where Man is free to serve THE Living God. The word is clear...whosoever does not enter into this Rest(refreshing) but continues to do his own work on the Sabbath...dies. Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
^ the debate then becomes people want a free ride of doing NOTHING. That is bogus. What is desperately needed is God’s work...not man’s works. We have enough of man’s works to make us sick. He said enter into the Rest prepared of God and stop all your dead works (applying God’s Spiritual Law to what is dead or is supposed to be dead)...stop your own works ...to serve THE Living God. What is needed is God’s Rest; God’s refreshing. Where it is no longer we who works, but through provision of God His WIll and Works be done.

Acts 3:19-21 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; [20] And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: [21] Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

“Be converted” ...one must become as little children and enter into “This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing:”
Hebrews 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Hebrews 4:1-7 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. [2] For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. [3] For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. [4] For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. [5] And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. [6] Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: [7] Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Don’t be a heart of stone with the law written in stone tables...LIVE. 2 Corinthians 3:3-6 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. [4] And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: [5] Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; [6] Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

If you are going to keep the “Sign” of the Sabbath believing it was not pointing toward entering into Christ (God’s Rest and Refreshing) ...believing you profit from what is already dead and crucified...then you might as well circumcise in the flesh; favoring this circumcision in the flesh of the Old Testament over the Circumcision “made without hands” of the heart. If that is what is favored in Keeping our own works yet saying we have entered in on the Sabbath Rest and ceased from our works in Hope ...serving THE living God...then there is nothing more to say in God said what does not enter into His Sabbath Rest and keeps it Holy and sanctified...meaning any work not of God...this man Dies.

And how do you include Jesus's words that the Sabbeth was made for man, not man for the sabbeth in Mark2:27+28.

Mark 2:24-28 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? [25] And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? [26] How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? [27] And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: [28] Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

“the refreshing” from the presence of the Lord. We know He is that bread. We hunger, and those with us hunger as even those with David. But this is a different hunger. In His saying take of this bread, the bread of Life (Christ) and eat. We need the refreshing from the presence of the Lord. “The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: [28] Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” ...Why do you think He commands to enter into His rest?

Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

1 Corinthians 11:8-9 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

Neither was man created for the Sabbath Rest...but the Sabbath Rest for the man. Exodus 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
^would say say the LORD doesn’t need rest and refreshing, but man.

Man was not created for the woman; but the woman was created for the man.
Man was not created for the Sabbath; but the Sabbath was created for the man.
Heaven was not created for the earth; but the earth was created for heaven.

We are made to worship God, without Jesus we are incomplete.
A day of rest enables us to concentrate on God rather than on living and it is this oppertunetity to recreate ourselves through worship that keeps us whole.

Our worship is more than action, it is all of us. The keeping of a 'sabbeth' is a physical thing.
God wants far more than a rote obedience.

“The keeping of a ‘sabbeth’ is a physical thing. Is it? Is circumcision a physical thing also?

God wants far more than a rote obedience

No one said anything about ‘rote obedience’ or that wasn’t the intention but instead John 14:12-14 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. [13] And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. [14] If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

“Greater works” does not come by ‘his own works’ but of God’s works. what does the word mean when it says the man who has entered into His Rest has ceased from his own works? Hebrews 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

I remember the sundays of my youth, it was a day of rest, a day of borring ildleness of compulsory church attendance.
God was not honoured in that ildleness or in not listening to services/sermons.

Not that the free for all we have now is any better.

We chose to obey God and to serve him as individuals instead of as a community obeying laws.

Keep the Sabbath Rest ...or die.
The sabbath rest is not meant as a threat to mankind. The rest is in the Spirit by the grace of God. If we fail that grace we will be separated from God...that is the death...a death to holiness and God's presence. But these can still inherit the earth.

But God is merciful and accepts the righteous apart from holiness. The holy are they who are glorified and rule with Christ. But the righteous populate the nations in the next age. The saints rule over them.

So here we see the goodness and severity of God. God is very merciful to the humble and they who fear Him. But He resists the ones who claim much and judge others. As we judge so we will be judged. And this is according to the severity of God.

Are we easy on ourselves and hard on others? Then look for God's severity on us.

Are we hard on ourselves but easy on others? Then look for God's mercy on us.

The holy are they who are glorified and rule with Christ. But the righteous populate the nations in the next age. The saints rule over them.

Maybe will never understand what you mean by the “righteousness” I try Episkopos...I want to understand what you mean but there is always a major conflict. Maybe it is me. You said “But God is merciful and accepts the righteous apart from holiness.” Over and over God says we are to seek “his righteous” ...without his righteousness we can not and will not see the kingdom of God. He said “Seek first his righteousness...” what I hear there is seek after prospering “his righteousness” of multiplying “his righteousness” of establishing His Name; the only name which continues. So to say “his righteousness” is not enough or falls short in “God is merciful and accepts ‘Christ’s righteousness’ apart from holiness’”...is to make Him less than Holy. God is Righteous AND Holy.

Romans 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

“The holy are they who are glorified and rule with Christ. But the righteous populate the nations in the next age. The saints rule over them.” You said: The Holy are glorified and rule with Christ... BUT if it is His righteousness by which one IS glorified. So those of his righteousness populate the nations and the saints that are holy rule over them?

You said “the righteous populate the nations in the next age. The saints rule over them.”

...Ignorant of God's Righteousness...again if “the righteous populate the nations In the next age” yet the saints rule over them...if it is God’s righteousness which one must have, his righteousness...then to separate the righteous from the saints is to say ...God is divided in The saints rule in the next age over “his righteousness” which is not enough to be a saint. You can’t separate God”s Righteousness and God IS Holy...so if you are saying in the next age the Saints rule over those who go about establishing their own righteousness...then that righteousness is not His so why sell they could ever grow in that “their own righteousness” which they sow. Planting and sowing of the flesh “man’s righteousness” going about to establish a name which comes to nothing ....or planting and sowing of Spirit which is God’s: The Lord’s Name: Righteousness and Holy.

My husband said: it says this in Mark because it is man’s rest from pleasing man. We are free to please God and to be pleasurable to God. This is why they hated Jesus Christ...because He pleased the Father and not man. That this is what walking in the Spirit is...pleasing God and not pleasing men.

Another question would be why did God need rest and refreshing?
It was an example for man to follow.
The Israelites had worked as slaves for hundreds of years...
they needed rest.

God gave the example, in Genesis, that man needs rest and should not work all the time.
