I never knew you.”. It is true ...God was never in it, what is now passed or passing away and waxing old and the former. Yet, “Behold, all things have become New”

I could see that if they misunderstood that the parable was addressed to the privilege of the Jewish Nation (this is what the "Rich Man" represented) and the assumption that they were automatically "saved" because of their heritage..... as opposed to Lazarus (representing the Gentiles).
