God strives with His children--so that we really don't need to. All we need is to lay our lives bare before Him, in faith, and He will take on our burdens. He is the "Great Physician"--healing us from all wounds (whether inflicted by others or by ourselves).
Amen!!! Exactly!!!

dont let the right hand know what the left hand is doing

Backwards. Matthew 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

Does it matter...possibly. Don’t let thy goats know what thy sheep doeth...?
Mark 10:40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.

Deepens Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Are you sitting on a cushioned chair, the Air Conditioned room in your unnecessarily over-sized home (or office) lighted by electric lighting, while typing on that expensive electronic marvel in front of you? (How was breakfast this morning, BTW?)
We need to be relatively realistic about these things.

I enjoy all the things mention, but I would add good food and good wine.

I don't remotely understand the point the initial poster is trying to make. Enjoyment of life is a good thing, which is a gift of God to us.

i agree, but it might be pertinent to reflect upon how all that we enjoy is the result of some slave's labor, somewhere? And i don't think "all" is overstating the case for most of us, either?

ya, def, ty. changes the meaning completely i guess!
i have a kind of dyslexia, being sooo right-brained, ty

my left hand is my "right" hand, etc; i have to mirror-flip...everything, first

Didn’t mean it in a critical way. It was a good point you brought up regarding thread topic of self -indulgence:
Matthew 6:1-5 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. [2] Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. [3] But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: [4] That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. [5] And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are : for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Thank you for bringing it up because I had never noticed it before.

Proverbs 27:26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.

Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

the implication seems to be that both are needed, huh?

Many want to hold on to the goat, but he can’t enter in.

No goats allowed. No matter how pretty.

the implication seems to be that both are needed, huh?

Both are needed and are used for His purposes. Realize it speaks of a people....one being hypocrites who seek the glory of men and to be seen of men. The other seeks after God. But as the verse you brought up in not letting the left hand know what the right hand is doing. There is also the same dividing, cutting in me...a hypocrite that is kept in the dark yet also a child of God whose heart He has made whole and given light. Remember the goat sent out into the wilderness to wander and die and to be consumed (devoured) for the sins...then consider Paul’s instruction to put a man outside where satan could destroy (devour)the flesh that a life could possibly be saved. And Christ words of a fire prepared for the goats. Simply, there is a goat in me; a hypocrite that seeks the glory of men and to be seen by them...that the Fire was prepared for the goat to go into...the price of the field in He said one must give all, even their own life for His Name sake. It is that which seeks everything about this world yet devoured by the same world its seeks. But His sheep hear the voice of the Shepherd and follow Him. Not saying a goat becomes a sheep. IF both are not within all of us then why does scripture say it is better to pluck out an eye, or to cut off a hand, or to cut off a foot? But at the same time God showed this in what He cut off and plucked out. Sounds absurd maybe but the “depart, from Me I never knew you.” Becomes different than respect of persons but instead God does exactly what He said He will do in “their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. (Hebrews 10:16-17) God cuts off and away from His own where “The former shall not be remembered, nor come to mind.” And that in us which is devoured, consumed, dead in sin...is remembered no more. All things made new. Isaiah 65:14-17 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit. [15] And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord God shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name: [16] That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes. [17] For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

“the Lord God shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:”

Romans 7:9-11 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. [10] And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. [11] For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

Consider the difference between Saul/Paul. realize this won’t be received well but also do see that there was that which was me without separate from God, dead in sin and trespass which the Fire was prepared for to consume and devour....where God says “Depart from Me, you worker of iniquity. I never knew you.”. It is true ...God was never in it, what is now passed or passing away and waxing old and the former. Yet, “Behold, all things have become New”

Proverbs 27:26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.

Matthew 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

ya, nobody much likes that one, huh
remember, in your life you had all the good things
I could see that if they misunderstood that the parable was addressed to the privilege of the Jewish Nation (this is what the "Rich Man" represented) and the assumption that they were automatically "saved" because of their heritage..... as opposed to Lazarus (representing the Gentiles).

If there is anything goatish about us...then it is to be cut loose? Not well received in it becomes not about pointing at another to say “I am a sheep and you are a goat” but instead examine yourself?

well, a small perspective change, recognizing how firmly under the law we are, etc, and all that suddenly changes imo...not all who are born Israel are of Israel,
and arent we the law-keepers now? Spiritually speaking?

imo that can be taken on at least two levels; Jesus was essentially a scapegoat? John 18:14 Lexicon: Now Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it was expedient for one man to die on behalf of the people.
so fwiw i would not get too complacent with any fact there, the Jesus with two middle fingers raised all the way up at The Man is findable in Scripture imo
leave the world etc
