A recent question was presented but everyone needs to know what Gods Word says on this subject. You will get different opinions from different religions but we are a Bible study site so lets see what God says: Rev 22:15 For without [are] dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. Here the Word sorcerer's in the Greek the Word is pharmakeus from pharmakon (a drug, i.e. spell-giving potion)It is where we get our word pharmaceutical and means one who makes or takes pharmaceuticals or drugs that can cause One to believe a lie..... that is their mind is altered So what God is saying is that mind altering illleagle drugs for non medical reasons is the same as murder and idolatry... This is not the same as prescribed medications by a doctor ...Luke himself was a doctor an therefore prescribed remedies for ailments.

Not that I condone drug use at all, but I think the word in this scripture has a much stronger meaning. I don't think it is referring to someone who smokes a joint, etc.A study of the Greek words pharmakeia (Strong's 5331) and pharmakeus (Strong's 5332). Strong's Exhaustive Concordance:"5331. pharmakeia ... from 5332; medication ('pharmacy'), i.e. (by extension) magic (literal or figurative).""5332. pharmakeus ... from pharmakon, (a drug, i.e. spell-giving potion); a druggist ('pharmacist') or poisoner, i.e. (by extension) a magician."sorcerersSorcerers is φαρμάκοις [pharmakois] : “one who prepares and uses drugs for magical purposes or ritual witchcraft sorcerer, poisoner, magician.”BIBLE DICTIONARY SorcererOne who foretells events by casting lots (Ex. 7: 11; Jer. 27: 9; Acts 13: 6; Rev. 21: 8). From the Latin sortiarius, one who casts lots, or one who tells the lot of others. In Dan. 2:2 it is the rendering of the Hebrew mekhashphim, i.e., mutterers, men who professed to have power with evil spirits. The practice of sorcery exposed to severest punishment (Mal. 3:5; Rev. 21:8; 22:15).Daniel 2:2 "Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king."

Well now you reading what you want to see/or justifying a personal opinion it may have other stronger and milder implications but the fact is ...if it alters one mind it falls under the catagory of the meaning of the Words.

No Christina. I just never read the scripture to mean that and I had never looked up the word pharmakeia. So I looked it up and didn't really see it as that. I was just joining in the discussion. Didn't mean any offense. As to my opinion, I see that prescription drugs can be just as bad. I have a relative who had back surgery many years ago and is now addicted to pain meds. Last year the Dr. started sending him to the methadone clinic and it really went downhill from there. He became so miserable he was suicidal. I urge people to do research on any drugs prescribed before taking them. Anything that is causing a negative impact on your life, whether it be drugs or some other bad habit needs to be examined. Drugs cloud the mind and cause loss of self control. They can cost you your life. I know there is other scripture we can reflect on. I'll see what I can find after I feed the house here !

I can somewhat agree with that. However, the main people that started the whole mind-alternating drugs are the ones that practice magical arts. Hence the reason there are different Greek words uses for the word singular (sorcerer) and plural (sorcerers)Sometimes, I think it today's times, because many people (seems to me) doesn't actually know what God's says. It maybe possible that docters do not know such description in their "prefered" prescription drug uses.

Mind-altering drugs are certainly not something to be taken likely, and I personally abhor the idea of meddling with one's mind for such a shallow purpose as recreation.Still, I hesitate to view drug use in and of itself as a moral issue. The discussion puts me in mind of Matthew 15:11- "It is not what goes into the mouth that makes a person unclean. It is what comes out of the mouth that makes a person unclean."

Well the Word says differnt if we look at the language used, God is against it however we must apply common sense to this .. for example its a sin to be a drunkard, but some amount of Wine is good for the body...glutoney is a sin ..but we must eat to live ... As with drugs .. If prescribed by a doctor for the health of the body/mind.. its fine the problem comes in my mind with illeagal drugs .. Another words if one was prescribed Marijuana for treatment its grown by a licensed grower and sold to a licensed seller and despenced by doctors prescription... If one buys Marijiana on the street from a dealer he then uses that money to buy guns to kill people .. Making you partly responsable.

i agree with dagda, it is not the fact that a substance is mind altering, its what the person does while under the influence of the substance, prescribed or recreational. ex.-morphine is more addictive than crack cocaine yet it is still used in hospitals to save lives. even if your under the influence of this drug it is not the fact that it has altered your mind, its what you do while your mind is altered.

you cannot live in this world with that kind of mentality. what your money is spent on after you buy something has no reason to be attributed to you or your conscious. to say that your partly responsible for how an evil drug dealer spends his money is like saying that if the money you paid your doctor for a surgery was later spent on a prostitute your somewhat to blame. there is no way to determine who is going to do what with the money you give them and it is inevitable that some will be used in the wrong way so guilt should not be placed on you if you are not the one spending the money on evil or immoral things.

Lets take me as an example, if I wanted to be a homosexual and then take a biblical Christian that loves God with his / her whole soul and mind fully knowing that God is dead set against it., yet decides to support the lifestyle for me because "it feels right to do so in his / her eyes" and then s/he becomes partly responsible for partaking an ungodly act. Even if a person does not know these things, yet still support it, it's still s/he is partly responsible for the mess. Therefore this wise saying fits well into this. Evil triumph when good men does nothing.

i dont see what a person would be unknowingly supporting in your analogy. if you justify your acts with "it feels right to do so in his/her eyes" your still knowingly supporting something immoral, just mentally excused. the point i was trying to make was that if you unknowingly support something and never know the consequences of your support there is no way to know whether to feel guilty or not. but if you find out later that what you were supporting was wrong in the eyes of god you should work to prevent it next time but there is no way to make up for the first time and should not dwell on it.

I think a key matter to keep in mind here is the importance of not being "carnally minded". If something feels good and doesn't hurt anybody else, it can still be a bad thing- because by pursuing that pleasant sensation, you can squander opportunities to help others and make the world a better place.

There's no way to be 100% sure beforehand, but you can make an educated guess. Same as any other choice. Enabling someone to hurt someone else while knowing that they will likely do so isn't as reprehensible as doing such a thing yourself, but that doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with what you've done.

Some of my friends here know how I feel about drugs. Drugs that lower numbers are basically worthless. Cholesterol is the biggest scam since cholesterol is not "bad". As a matter of fact, I'd PANIC if mine was below 200! If one does not think this has anything to do with the mind, think again. First of all, everyone's duped into taking them which is a mind game of a sort right there. Then there's what it does to both body and mind. The lady who teaches our class at church had a close friend that DIED taking these things. The sad thing is that beforehand she walked and exercised and had no major problems. But the doctors warned that she "needed" them due to high cholesterol. Don't ya just love when someone in their infinite wisdom wants to fix something that is not broken? Well, no matter, the big drug companies has someone happier taking this woman's life knowing they can keep their 9-digit salaries in this troubled economy, and if they lose their positions they can ask us peons for a bailout.

Drugs / Counterfeits The other day I was reading a little tract telling of the experience of a man who took LSD . I had heard that many people take this drug because they have been told it gives a "religious experience ". They are led to believe they will have an ecstatic , thrilling , marvelously delightful " trip " into realms unknown . I understand this to be true in a limited sense , but it seems it brings pleasure in the same manner that othersinful acts of sin bring enjoyment . The enjoyment and pleasure , however , which sin gives always has a bitter , and sometimes tragic , end . The devil envies and hates Jesus and as long as God allows him any power at all , he will continue to try to snare people by counterfeiting God's good , wonderful, and delightful experiences which He wants to give people . Nothing that comes from the devil is good . I have often been impressed by the fact that he must use the good things God has made in order to make temptation attractive . Have you ever noticed as you looked at a billboard which advertised something ruinous tomankind , that it is pictured with a beautiful young woman or a handsome young man ? Beauty , good health , ect., don't come from the devil , but he must use them to entice people to live in ways which are against their own good . If he told the truth about the end of sinful living , people would not be fooled so easily and the devil knows this. 2 Cor. 4: 2-4 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.We must pray that we are not deluded by satans counterfeits and not snared by his traps of society saying its good for you or a little wont hurt you .
