I have gone back and forth with it too. I remember growing up (in a non-Christian but moral household) my friends and I going out trick-or-treating and coming back with pillowcases full of candy. When I became a Christian I strictly wanted to avoid it. Now I'm unsure. I don't like the holiday but I'm not sure what God thinks and He hasn't shown me.

I think convictions change with kids. When she grows up, I'll prilly give candy and Jesus tracts to kids.

I'll look for it in Jeremiah.
Jeremiah 10:2-4 King James Version (KJV)
2 Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

I tend to agree with you but it's hard when you're in a neighborhood where everyone around you is celebrating it, and everyone in school is. I don't know what Christian parents are doing now to shield their children in public school.

I would suppose that halloween may be the lesser of two evils compared to public schools.
It is sad to hear of what things are taught to our children now in this culture we live in. Principalities.

hog wash i was rebellious i did some drugs in my younger years and no not one time did i associate with occult . granted i did things inspired by the devil . that was not because i was possessed and influenced by halloween . every thing i did in the above was my own free will. my son we took him trick or treating never done drugs or the occult . teamventure was you ever rebellious ?

Ezra you misread my post.
I was saying that some who participated in halloween got into drugs, and some of them the occult or other things later down the road. etc.
I gave examples of testimonies not once did I claim that everyone who gets involved with halloween ends up in the occult.
You need to read more carefully before jumping off the boat.

Is that true about Christmas trees and Easter eggs?
Yes it is. Its history is freely available online.
'Christians' are easily duped because they have abandoned their first love and their sign posts are faded. They are sitting ducks to imbibe any drivel as long as it has an appearance and feeling of nice.

NICE
When nice was born the angels wept
and Satan was a grinner
for truth now had a counterpart
which made him look a winner.

That polished smile with interest feigned
an act to win an Oscar
a heart annealed, with pride displayed
aspiring of the all star.

Ahhhh, nice, she walks the pleasant way
with flattery as companion
a single unit, how they dance
as if they were the champions.

Observer with the practiced eye
will watch as she undresses
yet baring all holds no surprise
in spite of her caresses.

you shouldnt where we live we never get any trick or treaters ..i do not consider it a celebration ..i consider it kids dressing up and having fun . it is a great time for the church to hold events as a safe haven
My response was from the prospective of feeling as a Christian I should use the day to reach out , Willie had been talking about the alternative activities at his church, about using the day as an opportunity. I am not part of a church, I am usually working and just view it as another day.
It will be interesting this year as I am away with my eldest son, my daughter in law and granddaughter. They will be carving pumpkins , but not actually doing much else. They have a competition to see who can design the best , I am not very imaginative- have no idea what design. ( it's never a traditional design for Halloween ) it's more about using the pumpkin as a canvas.
I am not artistic at all !! Lol

For a lot of years now, in my area people are warned to keep their black cats inside as they were being taken. The only thing I can think of is something I do not even want to think, much less write on here so, maybe you all can figure it out yourselves. I hate the holiday myself. But, as a child, we were all into the door to door with our silly costumes on. Some of the Church's around me have what is called "Harvest Day" at the Church. There are different activities and some do dress up as bible characters...

I understand what you're saying about cats, but I've heard that much worse happens to children at the hands of Satanists on this
day. :(

I wonder that we don't hear about more horrible things happening on that day. Costumes are all over the place, not just kids but the adults have to have their "fun" too and, if they are wearing masks...who can identify them if they decide to hold up a store, or grab an un-attended child? A good night to stay home with the lights out! Back in the day, we never had our parents come with us...but were just told to stay together...well, THAT never happened, ha! Christians should make that day a day of prayer against the evils out there. It's not like it used to be, that's for sure!

Our church does not see this as a desperate hope to pull kids out of the occult, but as an opportunity God gives us to continue to spread His kingdom. This is something kids flock to.

So where do these holidays come from?
Christmas and Saturnalia
The Pagans celebrate seasons and celestial movements. In this case the winter solstice… the shortest day of the year. The celebration was about surviving winter and that the days would get longer from that point on. This holiday goes back several thousand of years The Romans celebrated it as Saturnalia, a festival held between 17 and 24 December, which was the holiday to worship the god Saturn.

Decorating homes with evergreen branches and decorative trees goes back before Christ and was mostly popular with the northern Pagans. Yuletide and the Christmas tree as we know it comes out of Germany, the circa is debated, but between the 14th and 16th century. You can trace decorated evergreens back to the Pagan holidays, but that is ambiguous, because everyone decorated trees from the time of recorded history. But as the Christmas Tree is presented, it is truly an Christian ornament. An angel or the Star of Nazareth, or Santa Claus on top….strings of popcorn are definitely Christian….everyone used candles. The Pagans did use decorated apples for ornaments and it symbolized more than one thing.

Easter....Our Lord's Day....Resurrection Sunday
Easter is a Pagan holiday that celebrates the fertility goddess Eastre (sometimes spelt Eostre.) The Pagans scheduled it around the spring equinox to celebrate the budding life of spring. For Christians it celebrates the risen Christ. The Christian observance of Easter occurs on a different day each year because the Christians calculated Easter using a similar formula used by the Jews to calculate Passover. The first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring (vernal) equinox. The “G” rated side of it is, that the rabbit represents fertility and the egg represents birth. Decorated eggs go back thousands of years and the Christians started decorating eggs very early on. No spring orgy rituals for the Christians.

Halloween….
Halloween depending on where you are on the globe, it is called Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of Hallows' Eve or Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, or All Saints' Eve, and Samhain. The holiday originates from the Celtics and for various reasons really cannot be dated. From there the holiday spread throughout the world and is celebrated in different ways in different regions. It marks the beginning of winter and it is mostly a humorous celebration of the dead, all things scary. There is a Haitian Voodoo side of this but it is a more modern invention.

The Romans adopted the Halloween holiday after taking the Celtic territories. (49ad) There were two Roman holidays, the first Roman holiday was Feralia, a day in late October when the Romans traditionally commemorated the passing of the dead. The second was a day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple, and the incorporation of this celebration into Samhain, probably explains the tradition of bobbing for apples that is practiced today. Halloween’s association with black cats comes from European superstitions that vary, but their connection to witches was due to the medieval witch craze and witch-hunts and was considered a demonic familiar.

The Trick or Treat tradition begins with Celtic celebrations of Samhain, where villagers disguised themselves in costumes made of animal skins to drive away phantom visitors; banquet tables were prepared and food was left out to appease the spirits. In later centuries, people began dressing up as ghosts, demons and other scary creatures, and performed antics in exchange for food and drink. The term Trick or Treat is a more modern term and actually some connect it to Walt Disney.

Halloween occurs concurrently with the Christian holiday of All Saints day, which celebrates the Saints that have passed on. It originally started as a Catholic Holiday, but today some Protestant denominations observe it. In the Western Christian culture, the liturgical celebration begins at Vespers (a sunset prayer vigil) on the evening of October, 31st and ends on evening of November 1st.

Mostly the scheduling of Christian and Pagan holidays on the same day was done by either the Romans or the Roman Catholic Church. A lot this was to consolidate holidays so as not to interrupt commerce.
