My husband and 4 kids moved to a small town in Tennessee a few years ago. We had always attended Calvary Chapel but none here. We have tried a bunch of churches but they always reject me because I was not baptized properly.

I was born to parents that actively hated the church God, Jesus w extreme passion. I can say that I was born to love Christ. Even as a tiny girl, I can remember secretly reading my bible. I contribute this to a praying MIL but another story...my dad was very violent, like a trip to the ICU at age 3 violent. I was baptized at 15 at a football game by sprinkle and I really was putting myself in a lot of danger doing that.
Fast forward 30 years..everytime we try to join a church, they say I need to be baptized. I feel baptized..and my baptism came at personal cost that few will ever know and meant more to me accordingly. Getting baptized again makes me want to vomit, my skin crawls when idiots tell me that this extremely important spiritual moment where God spoke to me w prophetic news that came true was all a lie and God is a liar.
I quit trying to even go to church bc my husband would get so mad when they rejected me and then none went to church. Am I wrong not to go to church? Should I just take a bath in sanctuary to make idiots happy?

Don't give up on going to Church, but stick to your beliefs, because you are right, and they are the ones in error.

There is nothing wrong with water baptism. It was done in the Bible. But the literal practice isn't required.

Ephesians 5:25-26 KJV
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; [26] That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

The only water you must be baptized in is the Word: the same water that Jesus told the widow at the well about.

Hi,

I would say I have been baptized, I am saved and I have a personal relationship with Christ. But I thank you for your concern....And leave it at that... If anybody still wants something more, say, you’ll be glad to pray with them about it right now if they are willing because pleasing to God is all your after...

Something along those lines maybe..Hope it helps.

be blessed in Him, Not me

Hi, LWK, welcome to the forum!

The first thing I would advise you to do is to seek God about this. Ask Him to show you what to do. In order to hear His voice, you will have to turn all of this over to Him, especially the anger. I can tell you from personal experience that anger gets in the way of hearing Him and knowing His will for you.

I'm very concerned that this issue is driving a wedge between you and your husband. That's exactly what the enemy wants to happen. Your children need united parents. A strong marriage is one of the best gifts you can give them.

It may seem impossible right now that this problem can be resolved, but with God all things are possible.

I pray that you will have God's grace to surrender this situation to Him and find His solution very quickly. I pray that you will find God's peace.

Blessings to you!

Personally, I believe that is a decision between you and God. Being raised in a Baptist church when we went, I was taught Baptism meant submersion. It represents God's death, burial, and resurrection, and should only be done after one is saved.

I respect different views and beliefs and I do hope you find a church you can belong too. Holding this view of baptism, I also don't believe baptism is for salvation. So yes, Ive been baptized more then once when I recommitted my life to Christ. To me, it is like a testimony of God, even if it isn't a necessity to be baptized to be saved. It is an outward sign of an inner commitment to love and honor God with my life, so yeh, I wouldn't mind, as long as their view of baptism matches what I believe to be true of God's Word and a sanctified life.

Prayers for your decision making!

Your real issue isn't the people, but more disagreements on theology. I would recommend studying scripture in prayer, and is the answer is...
- A believer's water baptism is NOT important, then you can
1) Go to a church that believes / preaches likewise or,
2) Deal with the disagreement of theology here and just move on.

- If your answer is a a believer's water baptism IS important, then I would suggest following that belief.

And a study of baptism, in general, will blow your socks off. We didn't invent it!
Many religions baptize, and had been baptizing for thousands of years before Christ appeared on Earth. All kinds of ways and all ages, for a myriad of reasons.

I think you should stand firm about this. Your baptism showed faith in Jesus, and that counts if you ask me. I was baptized by immersion, but I wouldn't think of judging you or anyone else for being sprinkled. Keep looking for a church that values faith over a legalistic, judgmental standard. If they have that attitude about baptism, odds are they'll have it about other things. If you search and can't find one, still count yourself blessed.

You could attend a church without joining, but I don't know how well that would go if they're that judgmental.

Hi; God bless His Word to you and your family.

Acts 2.41-42 and the order of events mentioned may be of significance.

It would appear that under the circumstances, you were baptized as a believer. Correct me if I am wrong.

And since you have given your testimony here, there is no need to trouble yourself. Ideally baptism should be by immersion, but since that was not possible at the time, you should let that matter rest.

What you can now do is seek out a Gospel-preaching Bible-believing church and meet with the pastor and/or elders BEFORE you and your family get involved. Explain what happened and get their response. If they agree that you have been baptized as a believer, then they should be prepared to accept you into their fellowship without further discussion. And the matter does not have to become a source of gossip either (if they have the wisdom to say nothing more).

Somebody already suggested you pray about this matter but I would go a step further and say pray together with your whole family about where God wants you to be. Also you could pray that he will prepare the way for you before you actually attend. I had to leave a church because they wouldn't let me be baptised in water saying that as I had been Christened as an infant it was enough. I knew it wasn't. You have the opposite situation but if you are sure in your own mind that you have been baptised then stick to your guns and also ask God to give you the strength and courage to do that.

We have tried a bunch of churches but they always reject me because I was not baptized properly.

May I ask what makes a baptism proper?
How do they know you have not been baptised properly?

What level of involvement in these churches are you looking for?
Is being baptised 'properly' a condition of church attendance or of taking communion?

Check out the churches in your area for those that are seeking to practice what they preach and as Pearl and enoch have said you and your husband meet the minister and talk to him.
Don't let the small minds of some peopke spoil your worship and service of God.
Attend the most Christian church you can find, be faithfull in your service and time will wash away there problems.

No ma’am I don’t consider it wrong

I’d look at going to another church if pastor and elders are forcing baptism on you that’s between God & you

Agree...what he said ...No church can tell you what to do...it smacks of the 70's and the Shepherding Movement ...anyone in leadership who feels that they have the authority to dictate and hear for everyone else ..has a problem with insecurity. They probably love the word Pastor or Elder before their name.

You don't have to be happy that they don't know any better...it's not a contest of what they know or have correct or have completely wrong. Step out, do it for God, and look for Him to respond favorably and to guide you, rather than the other people. It's like kids...just love 'em, and do your own part the best you can.

God will sort it out. Look for His cue, and follow His directives. He might be sending you in the lions den 'cause they need you.

My first church allowed attendence of the church, fellowship , communion ect, but I order to ' come under the ministry ' of the church you had to show commitment by becoming a member. One of the requirements was to be baptised. I remember not agreeing with only recieving support if I became an official member , as far as I was concerned I was committed to the church and have always felt this is man made rule. I went along with it though, I was a young Christian.
I was saddened to hear your story, I left the local church because I was tired of the ' religion ' and ' man made rules ' that bound people up. You have a wonderful testimony, amazing really given the fact that your family were so against God. It's important to be around people who embrace that as a positive. I am so sorry for the rippling effect this is having on your family.
I have not been to church for five years now, it hasn't stopped God working in my life , it hasn't stopped me growing. Some view it as wrong , many understand - one thing I have learned along the way is that this is between me and God, and the Lord knows why, knows all the details, all the circumstances of my life- that is what I cling to xx
May you find a way forward. While you are in this situation why not have a fellowship time at home as a family - over here we have a brilliant church on TV, it's called ' church without walls ' and it caters for anyone who isn't able to go to church, or for those who work on Sunday's, or like you, if you are unable to find a church that will accept you. It's on a tv station called ' revelation tv ' but I don't know how far they broadcast.
Much love to you and your family xxx

I Used to like that channel but we don't have Sky any more and I don't think you can get it on Freeview.
