No, the Gentiles do not inherit the land of Israel.

The blessing of Abraham, in a nutshell, is salvation by grace through faith.

It is the promised Holy Spirit.

Yes, they do. You might want to read Genesis 28. It states plainly what the blessing of Abraham is.

Sure. Paul makes the argument in Galatians 3.

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.1
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Paul's argument is that Christ died that the "blessing of Abraham" might come upon the Gentiles. This phrase, "the blessing of Abraham" only appears twice in Scripture. It appears here where Paul is applying it to Gentiles. And it appears in Genesis when Isaac was blessing Jacob.

And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.
3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;1
4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.1
(Gen. 28:1-4 KJV)

Here, the "blessing of Abraham" is to inherit the land that God promised to Abraham. To receive "the blessing of Abraham" is to receive the land that was promised to Abraham. In Galatians 3 Paul says that this blessing or inheritance comes to the Gentiles through faith in Christ.

29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Gal. 3:29 KJV)

I posted an article on Galatians 3 you might care to read

Getitright,

Genesis 28:4 is again badly translated. God Promises to Abraham and his descendants is for them to inherit the Earth, in the distant future, just s we are told in the NT that the "Christians" will also inherit the earth, that has been refurbished.

Paul was confirming that the Gentiles would also receive the same inheritance as Abraham and his descendants.

Shalom

Yes, I agree. I would submit that the promise was made to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Christ.

The land of Israel will be inherited by the descendants of Jacob.

It is a small land that is given to them. While some who are not of Israel may indeed be allowed to live in the land, I believe that it will primarily be inhabited by Israel (the descendants of Jacob).

The land of Israel is too small a land for all of the Gentiles to inherit it; and also for all of the people of Israel to inherit it.

Promises were given to Israel that were not given to the church, the body of Christ; neither was the church, the body, instructed to claim them.

Genesis 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

God made promise to Abraham and his seed to multiply and bless them; in the seed of Abraham all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

Deuteronomy 1:10 The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

1:11 (The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you!)

Israel was multiplied as the stars in number as promised.

Deuteronomy 15:6 For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.

Israel was promised to reign over many nations.

Deuteronomy 26:18 And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;

The LORD affirmed that Israel to be his peculiar people as promised (Exodus 19:5 Psalm 135:4 1 Peter 2:9).

As Abraham is The Father Of Faith...Israel was as 'the stars of the sky' that God showed him...and the 'seed of faith' .. of which we God's children are, of all colour and nationality ...are as the sand of the sea...of Abraham....

Israel received the promises and the literal Promised Land ...and we, with Israel which are born again...receive these same promised 'in and of the Spirit'.

The land of Israel is too small a land for all of the Gentiles to inherit it; and also for all of the people of Israel to inherit it.

You'll have to take that up with God. But, the passage says that the blessing of Abraham comes to the Gentiles through faith in Christ.

If you read Galatians 3 more carefully, you will see that the blessing of Abraham is the promised Holy Spirit.

The spiritual expression of the literal outworking of the OT.
For those of the Spirit "The Promised Land " is far far bigger than the size of the piece of land in Israel!!

All the promises of the OT have passed through the Cross and a far far greater "in Christ".

I read your post. However, as I pointed out Paul tells us that the Christians inherit the land.

Galatians 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Being blessed along with Abraham by faith in Christ does not say we get the promises and the land that were given to Israel. We get the promise of the Spirit as v14 says (Galatians 3:2).

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

We get the spiritual blessings not Israel's physical blessings.

"The blessing of Abraham" is the inheritance of the land. That's made plain in Genesis 28

Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him: "You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.
2 "Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take yourself a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.
3 "May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you, That you may be an assembly of peoples;
4 And give you the blessing of Abraham, To you and your descendants with you, That you may inherit the land In which you are a stranger, Which God gave to Abraham." (Gen. 28:1-4 NKJ)

Paul said that this blessing comes on the Gentiles through faith. I don't know how it could be any clearer. The inheritance in the Scriptures is the land.

Ephesians 1:3 is speaking of the Jews, not Christians. Paul makes a distinction between the Jews and the Gentiles to show how God has worked. I can break that down for you if you'd like.

Genesis 28 is the land blessing but it is specific to Jacob and his descendants.....it is a stretch to apply this to the church.

I do not see how Ephesians 1:3 is not speaking of the body....you can please explain

Doug, It's not specific to Jacob and his descendants. That's Paul's whole argument. It's not for them, it's for the believers. That's his argument in Galatians 3 that the blessing of Abraham comes to the Gentiles through faith. His argument is that the Jews were not the heirs of the promise to Abraham. Christ is the heir. Christians are co-heirs as Paul say in Romans 8.

Regarding Ephesians 1, if you look at verses 3-12 Paul speaks of we, us, and our. They're first person plural pronouns. Then in verse 13 he switches to you and your, second person plural pronouns, He's making a distinction between two groups, the Jews and the Gentiles. The things in verses 3-12 pertain to the Jews. As further evidence of this in chapter 2 verse 11 he say,

11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; (Eph. 2:11 KJV)

He says the you/your group is the Gentiles.

The entire book of Ephesians is written to the faithful in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:1).

Therefore, Ephesians 1:3-12 is to Gentile Christians as well as Jews.

So well and clearly said ...
thumbup1[1].gif

Confusion is upon those who can only see the literal 'Israel' and 'Promised Land ', but they cannot see the fullness of the promises to Abraham through his seed of faith being inheritors.
The blinker are on their eyes.

Not so well and clearly said...for it is not the truth of holy scripture.

Clearly, Ephesians 1:1 shows us that all of Ephesians is written to the faithful in Christ Jesus; and we would be fools to exclude Gentile Christians from this grouping. Ephesians 1:3-12 is not therefore speaking to Jews only; but to all of the faithful in Christ Jesus: which includes Gentiles.
