They let minors get tattoos? That shoudl be illegal. They could make the minimum age be 21. Hopefully kids would have a little more life experience before making the decision.
Minors can get abortions without parental notification or approval. Getting a tattoo pales by comparison.

Well, in some states it's less; (I think I read that in Idaho the age is 14, not that I think that it's a good idea). Yes, it's good to have plenty of aforethought and even caution.

@shnarkle Seems sometimes anyway like nearly every young lady has it done - as simply part of what a young ladies do - and my focus in any case wasn't on the exact age which varies from state to state in the US; but on the faith based design, which just appeared thoughtful and effective. But you are exactly right, yes, indeed.

@Hidden In Him PS: Do the guys from Disciple have tattoos? I don't quite remember; they may do, indeed; it's so widespread now.

I seem to recall they had a bunch, yes.

But now let's fess up: What's this motivation behind discussing tattoos so much? LoL. I can expect to see a post on tattoos here about once a week.
: )

What's up, you one of those people who gets a new one every time you save up enough money or something?

@Hidden In Him Well, let me see now...

1) It's so very widespread.

2) It's a very manly thing to do.

3) For many years now it's become a very womanly thing to do.

4) If it's so very widespread, some ppl are likely talk about ink and its wide faith design potentials. (Including me, I guess...)

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

She is an artist and I support her art ... a tattoo artist; realizing she may be coming home with a new one everyday. But yeah, I would still support her...
@VictoryinJesus Well, maybe if she is discovering - has discovered - she has a real flair for the body inking that so many people feel they need, then supporting her exercise of her flair for it might be the definite approach for you to take, right?

PS: @VictoryinJesus You might come round to feeling good about supporting her tattoo artist work confidently, even if you do maybe struggle a little bit with it now, right? (Seems sometimes anyway like nearly every young lady has it done - as simply part of what a young ladies do.)

It's gotten to the point that when you see someone who doesn't have all this stuff going on, you look at them as being on the edge of a radical new look.
One day, not having a tattoo may be looked upon as a act of avant-garde fashion: "What a daring young man! he doesn't even have earrings! What a daring young woman! she doesn't even have a tattoo!" o_O

I have several tattoos, and while I do not regret getting them I do not know that I would get them were I able to go back in time.
Well, anyway, a lot of Christian men and women get them now, without regret: leaving aside everything else, it reflects where they are or were at the time of the parlor visit.

It's so idiotic. We look at celebrities who have basically acquired or adopted aspects of the characters they portray in movies. A prime example would be someone like Johnny Depp. He's become a "personality". He acts the part that his fan base has come to worship.

At the other end of the spectrum are those who walk away from any and all personas. These are those who see that the persona is nothing but a silly act to begin with .It isn't real. All actors are frauds, and yet we continue to look up to them for their ability to deceive.

About 30 years ago, I remember standing in line at the grocery store. In front of me were two middle school or perhaps high school age girls. They couldn't have been more than 12 or 13 years old. Behind them was a younger boy about 7 or 8 years old. The two girls were dressed up like prostitutes, and not just any prostitutes, but the most raunchy, scanky looking whores you can imagine. It was pathetic. I thought to myself how their parents must feel to see their children dressed this way, but then I realized that their parents may not care at all.

The boy behind them was flipping through one of the Women's magazines. I could see over his shoulder that this magazine had numerous pictures of completely naked women. Full frontal pornography in the magazine racks and prepubescent girls dressed up as two bit whores was the norm over 30 years ago. Again, nothing really surprises me much at all anymore. What surprises me, or what really causes me to take notice is when I see a man or woman who looks wholesome. Someone with a natural glow from doing hard work. When was the last time you saw something like this:

Imagine that! Having a job where you run barefoot through grass!

Did you notice the smile she had on her face? Did you notice the energy she had? When I was her age, there is no way I would have had that kind of energy. There is no way I would have been pumping that hay up onto that truck after it was piled that high. I would have been whining, grunting, snorting, and cursing my conception.

About fifteen years ago, some friends of mine and I took a trip to Yosemite to hike to the top of Half Dome. On the way up we encountered some Mennonite women. They had these white bonnets on their heads, and wore these flowery blue dresses that extended down to their ankles which revealed shoes that appeared to be hewn from wood.

When we got to the top, they were up there as well. On our way back down the eight mile trek to the parking lot, we inquired as to who they were. We thought they might be Amish. They were talking to us as if they were simply going on a stroll through a park while we were all huffing and puffing like we were on our way down from Mt. Everest. We all had back packs full of water, and other necessities to fortify us on our way to the summit. They each had a small 10 or 12 oz. bottle of water. They also informed us that they were on their way to King's Canyon national park as well as a half dozen other parks. We were going to be going straight home to recover and lick our wounds. A week or so later we all had toe nails falling off while those women probably didn't notice any ill effects from any of their travels.

One of my friends noted as we were taking a rest that they exemplified what it means to live the good life. Healthy living has its benefits.

Ahh!! I was 19 years old, and working 12 hours a day in masonry construction. Those were the days!

I also did a fair amount of construction as well, then there was humping furniture, catering, bartending, landscaping, hauling freight across country, etc. When you're young it's energizing, and fun because you know you have the energy to go out and have fun after you get off work. You have your whole life ahead of you when you're in your 20's

When old age begins to creep up on you, then the work is something you do to stay alive. I look around at kids today, and they're so sedentary. A sedentary lifestyle is probably the most conducive way to practice being dead.

I don't know what possessed them to start the ink, good question I'll have to ask them.
@soul man It used to be almost exclusively a man thing to do may years ago.

But now it seems that getting their arms or wrists inked up is something that young women can't wait to do. Your daughters wanting it seems to reflect more widely a now strongly feminine urge to do it, don't you think? like, an achievement that is there waiting to be attained.

Hence part of the great growth in the industry, to which the poll relates, also.
