Agur speaks of himself as wanting a righteousness, and having done very foolishly. And it becomes us all to have low thoughts of ourselves. He speaks of himself as wanting revelation to guide him in the ways of truth and wisdom. The more enlightened people are, the more they lament their ignorance; the more they pray for clearer, still clearer discoveries of God, and his rich grace in Christ In a broader sense he is also speaking to those that allow the Word to be their strengthProverbs 30:1 "The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: The man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,""The words of Agur [meaning love] the son of [her which was] Jakeh [which means pious], giving this prophecy: The man spake unto ithiel [el or God is with me], even unto ithiel and Ucal [he who is strong]," So this verse is address ed to those that study and allow the Word of God to make them strong.Proverbs 30:3 "I neither learned wisdom, Nor have the knowledge of the holy."This is acknowledging the fact that at the beginning, he did not have the wisdom and the knowledge from the Word of God.Proverbs 30:4 "Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in a garment: Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is His Son's name, if thou canst tell?"Though this person knows knew; back then he asks these four questions. Of course the answer to who has ascended and descended into heaven is the Lord Jesus Christ, That comes from studying God's Word. The Wind is "Ruach" in the Hebrew, the Spirit of God. Who set the shoreline, and controls the gravity and the course of the moon. He is the one that controls the tides, and gives us dry land. There is only one answer to these questions and that is our heavenly Father.Proverbs 30:5 "Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him."God's Word is true and well tested. As we study Father's Word and learn to trust Him, He becomes our shield, our path and way of life. In our generation, God's pure Word allows us to see with understanding the events of our day and know the times we are living in. By seeing the prophecies of His Word coming to pass, we learn to trust Father in all that He saysProverbs 30:7 "Two things have I required of thee; Deny me them not before I die."This person is asking God to reveal these two things to him now.Proverbs 30:8 "Remove from me far vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me."The first thing he asks for is to remove from me these vanities of lies, these traditions that are simply not true. We get this wisdom by studying His Word. As you learn truth, the lies are shone for what they are, lies. This person doesn't want to be poor nor rich, but give me sufficient food to sustain me, an allowance of food; enough to enjoy and nourish me.Proverbs 30:9 "Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, "Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor and steal, And take the name of my God in vain."This person know the results of being either rich or poor, for to be rich is to take God's blessings for granted and look to yourself as the giver of the blessing; and to be to poor is the take lightly the name of our Lord, and curse Father. When times are good, we tend to forget about God, and think of our own pleasures. We become the center of our own lives. But when thing go really bad, you can start cursing everything around you, even God. this again is the reason this person want neither to be rich, nor poor.verses 11-14 are talking of this generation from our point of view Proverbs 30:15 "The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give: There are three things that are never satisfied, yea four things say not, it is enough:"The "horseleach" is a bloodsucker. The bloodsucker has only two words, Give give, and the giving is a one way street, to him. This type has no conscience in their efforts to suck blood from anyone they can and there is no point of satisfaction to their receiving. These two daughters are multiplying so fast that it only increases their lust for more. These people are all around us and this is real wisdom.Proverbs 30:16 "The grave; and the barren womb; The earth that is not filled with water; And the fire that saith not, "It is enough."These are the four thing that bring instability to ones life. They are the thought of dying, the thought of not being able to bear children, not having food and water to eat, and the fourth is having a proper shelter to live in. If you are unsure in any of these, then stabilize it. Once you have wisdom from God's Word there is no fear of the grave. Every one loves Children, and if the womb is barren there are ways today to adopt and take care of children when you can not physically have one. Of course the latter two deals with getting out and earning a living to provide for your needs.Proverbs 30:17 "The eye that mocketh at his father And despiseth to obey his mother, The ravens of the valley shall pick it out, And the young eagles shall eat it."The first thing that a raven takes from a carcass is its eyes, that is their delight. And after the raven leaves, here comes the eagle to consume the rest of the carcass. So this is saying that if you despise your parents, nature itself will swallow you up.Proverbs 30:18 "There be three thing which are too wonderful for me, Yea, four which I know not."So these are four things that are beyond me to understand. These are things that go against the nature of man's minds. When you see these things happening, you stand by and watch and observe even though you don't understand.Proverbs 30:19 "The way of an eagle in the air; The way of a serpent upon a rock; The way of a ship in the midst of the sea; And the way of a man with a maid."The flight of an eagle is completely unpredictable, for he cruses the skies to fine a pray and then in one scoop is on it before it can get away. The serpent can strike instantly with its poisons, and render its prey helpless. In a ship, it is not the ship that decides the direction, but the man at the wheel guiding the ship. And the last is a man with a maid, for it takes patience to see if the love is lasting and true. What might seem true love at one moment, may end over some harsh or unguided word.Proverbs 30:20 "Such is the way of an adulterous woman; She eateth, and wipeth her mouth, And saith, "I have done no wickedness."Proverbs 30:21 "For three things the earth is disquieted, And for four which it cannot bear:""Disquieted" in the Hebrew text means to quiver with violent emotion, such as rage, or even to stand in awe. So we will now see four things that the earth trembles over.Proverbs 30:22 "For a servant when he reigneth; And a fool when he is filled with meat."The first is a servant that becomes a king, or a fool that becomes well blessed, such as hitting a lottery. Sure these things can happen where there is no explanation.Proverbs 30:23 "For an odious woman when she is married; And an handmaid that is heir to her mistress."An "odious woman" is an unloved woman when she is married. We see this all the time, the unloved wife that has a man that won't give her the attention a wife deserves. Also the servant or hand maid that possess or controls her mistress and is taking the place of the wife. .Proverbs 30:24 "There be four things which are little upon the earth, But they are exceeding wise:"We are now going to four things that are small and very wise.Proverbs 30:25 "The ants are a people not strong, Yet they prepare their meat in the summer;"The ants live in a colony as a community caring for each other, and not one of them is strong in itself. They know when it is time to build their houses, take in the harvest and prepare for the winter to come.Proverbs 30:26 "The conies are but a feeble folk, Yet make they their houses in the rocks;"The conies are about the size of a rabbit but has no strength like the rabbit. The conies simply cannot take care of himself out in the open, but seeks the protection of the rocks. He is wise enough to dwell in the clefts of the rock. We dwell in the Rock also, that is Christ, for He is our protection. When things are good, save for the times when they will not be.Proverbs 30:27 "The locust have no king, Yet go they forth all of them by bands;"The locust rides the wind, and God drives the wind. They are driven by the hand of God, and that is how we must flow in our lives.Proverbs 30:28 "The spider take hold with her hands, And is in kings' palaces."The spider with its little hands can go anywhere, even in the palace with the king. Can you be humble and wise at the same time. There should be no fear where every you go, for Father is with you.Proverbs 30:29 "There be three things which go well, Yea, four are comely in going:"These four things here are very graceful and beautiful in their movements.Proverbs 30:30 "A lion which is strongest among beasts, And turneth not away for any:"There is pride and strength in the lion, no quick jerky motions, but a bold firm conviction in the strength that he has. Remember it was Jesus that was called the "Lion of the tribe of Judah".Proverbs 30:31 "A greyhound; and he goat also; And a king, against whom there is no rising up."These animals are very graceful in their movement. The greyhound at its high speeds, and the sure footed he goat on the mountain top. You can also stand sure footed even when there are dangers all around you, when you know that our Lord is protecting you and leading you in your path. And even in the presence of a king that has complete control over you.Proverbs 30:32 "If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, Or if thou hast thought evil, Lay thine hand upon thy mouth."So now we have a warning to those that think they know it all, or the ones that that like to run all over the place judging everyone. It is time to keep your mouth shut. It is time to listen to wisdom, gain knowledge and set your path right.Proverbs 30:33 "Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, And the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: So the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife."Sure mike is good, but you have to shake it up real good before you get the butter. However if you are not wise enough to take the graceful path, then you bring on the strife yourself. However it is far better to have the wisdom to avoid the troubles of life.hope this helps lookin4ward
