Given that "Tarshish" is England, which had the most powerful navy in the world, and her recent ejection from her biggest prize, India, but still having Governance over "Palestine"; and given that the U.N. are the "Kings" which are Assembled, -- do you find any correlation with the events of 1948 Israel?

Psalms 48
1 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God!
His holy mountain, 2 beautiful in elevation,
is the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King.
3 Within her citadels God
has shown himself a sure defense.

4 For lo, the kings assembled,
they came on together.
5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded,
they were in panic, they took to flight;
6 trembling took hold of them there,
anguish as of a woman in travail.
7 By the east wind thou didst shatter
the ships of Tarshish.
8 As we have heard, so have we seen
in the city of the Lord of hosts,
in the city of our God,
which God establishes for ever.Selah

9 We have thought on thy steadfast love, O God,
in the midst of thy temple.
10 As thy name, O God,
so thy praise reaches to the ends of the earth.
Thy right hand is filled with victory;
11 let Mount Zion be glad!
Let the daughters of Judah rejoice
because of thy judgments!

12 Walk about Zion, go round about her,
number her towers,
13 consider well her ramparts,
go through her citadels;
that you may tell the next generation
14 that this is God,
our God for ever and ever.
He will be our guide for ever.

YOU scare GOD. -- Your mind is make up, without examining any evidence, in spite of GOD calling you to use reason.

Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord ...

Go join @David Taylor. Maybe you can both run for Democratic seats in Congress.

And if people don't believe we're in the Tribulation, -- take a look around in this "christian" (small "c") Forum! :)

Well, maybe your last comment had some weight to it. But, still not convinced!

Where in the world did you get the idea that Tarshish is England?

I'M NOT TRYING TO CONVINCE YOU OF ANYTHING. -- All we should do is "let the prophets speak" (and thereby also the teachers), and then judge what they say . But how can you judge if you haven't heard the argument?!?

-- OR you can be as my favorite aunt used to tease: My mind's made up, don't confuse me with the FACTS. -- The difference was that she was teasing, but YOU are serious!

Be responsible, or at least pretend ...

Ok it's official you are trolling.

I already said so, in so many words. Now please move along, -- there's really NOTHING TO SEE!

To All,
The Great Falling Away will be due to a combination of failures. -- The failure of the church to participate in their own Christianity (Ref. 1 Cor 14), and "pastors" who think THEY'RE in charge of THEIR church. And so we end up with a weak and ineffectual church, and paid HIRELINGS.

Congratulations to all who brought this about,
Bobby Jo

You made an argument that Tarshish is England. When I challenged you on it you say look away. Is it because you know you are wrong and can't back up any argument you have made so far in this thread? Absolutely. You are being ridiculous.

I admitted that the "ships of Tarshish", and "Tarshish" being a distant seafaring nation, HAS NOTHING TO DO with England -- which has NEVER had the most powerful Merchant Fleet and/or Naval Fleet in the history of the world.

Can't you accept victory and move on? -- Go away. Go bother someone else!

I am so thankful for the fact that such a lowly one as I, am so highly honored and privileged to be allowed to be in the magnificent company of so many people who "know" so much that they instinctively use the words, "Such and such IS...", instead of, "I believe", or "As I see it", or "As I understand the reading to mean." LOL

So then you also admit the 1948 junk is bogus as well?

You're right. I guess the only one who's ignorant is me, -- and maybe the "Oxford Bible Church" (and possibly others):

Appendix 12: Who are the Merchants of TARSHISH?

The Merchants of Tarshish are not part of the invading forces for they protest against Russia when she invades Israel.Tarshish in Ezekiel's day was in the farthest western regions of the known world (Spain and/or the British Isles). It was wealthy and flourishing, exporting silver, iron, tin and lead through the seafaring Phoenicians (Jeremiah 10:9; Ezekiel 27:12,25). This hints at it being the UK. Tarshish occupied the uttermost parts of the west. It could be used by Ezekiel to represent the nations of western Europe that will join Saudi Arabia in denouncing the invasion. When God commanded Jonah to go preach to Nineveh (500 miles NE of Israel), he headed to Tarshish, which was as far in the other direction as he could go (see Jonah 1:1-3).

Tarshish is associated in Scripture with the West. “The western kings of Tarshish and the islands will bring him tribute”(Psalm 72:10, NLT).

The Merchants of Tarshish receive their name from the ancient city of Tarshish, where they once traded their goods. These merchant men could represent all of the nations of Western Europe that would one day become the Roman Empire.

Biblical Tarshish may be Tartessus, a Phoenician colony, an important outpost in a string of colonies that extended as far north as the tin islands of Britain. Tin was used in making bronze and was worth a fortune in eastern markets. The Phoenicians had virtual monopoly of the trade, and Tartessus was one of their important terminals for the shipment of the wealth of the world between east and west. Tarshish was a maritime centre of great importance, linked with Palestine and with contacts as far west as the ancients went. This gives us some clues for identifying prophetic Tarshish.

So it took you that long to find someone else saying the same nonsense? Not to mention, how do they even arrive at that? There is zero historical evidence for that.

So it took you that long to find ... .

Perhaps you should read the Bible instead of shooting your mouth off.

Yeah, if it's any of your business, I'm obeying Luke 22:36. And doing so, I've already renovated a cabin "lifeboat" for my wife and I, and am presently renovating a second cabin "lifeboat" for my children and grandchildren. This includes optimizing the layout, functionality, and convenience; creating and stocking a sufficient pantry; and assuring sufficient fuel and thereby power. But for those foolish enough to only live-for-today, I understand that the government WILL offer FREE SHOWERS.

If "HIRELINGS' had a clue, maybe they'd be called "pastors".

I do, and your theories have no basis in Scripture.

... and your "pastor" assertion has no basis in FACT! HIRELING, yep, "pastor", nope. :)

So do you prefer to drink your milk from a bottle, or sip from a spoon???

Tarshish - Britain or Spain? - The Herald of Hope
...
Coincidentally, there is a town named Tharsis 50 kilometres north of Huelva; the “th” combination, however, is a linguistic curiosity and alien to the Spanish language. A possible explanation is the influence of British mining concerns which owned the giant Rio Tinto Company with mines between Huelva and Tharsis in the 19th century.

The fact that a British mining company in the 19th century called it Tharsis is more likely to point to Britain being Tarshish. They gave it an English name!

To all,

I have no clue why ignorant people think that because the graduated from a cemetery (sometimes call seminary) think THEY ARE ENDOWED WITH ALL OF GOD'S KNOWLEDGE, when in fact they're the LEAST informed of any population, possibly with the exception of rocks -- and then it's 50/50.

Who Were the Merchants of Tarshish?
Thus, since there was such substantial trade with the continent known today as America, "the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof" must include the "young lions" of the United States, along with those of Britain and kindred folk in northern Europe. Today the population of the United States is made up basically of Celto-Saxon peoples. Although they had in 1776 been separated politically from the mass of Israel, then Britain, the "young lions" of America came storming back, across the Atlantic in 1917, to help defend Britain and the free world against tyranny. They came again in 1942 during World War II -- millions of them -- from America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa to fight in common cause against tyranny and aggression.

... and again:

Who Are The Onlookers Of Ezekiel 38:13? – Grace thru faith
The Phoenicians sailed as far north as England for tin, a metal used in the making of bronze and other alloys, which they mined in Cornwall, and which leads some to connect Tarshish with England. It may be that the name Britannia is actually derived from a Phoenician word meaning “source of tin.” If so, this reference could be to Great Britain making the “lions” (KJV) or “villages”(NIV) of Tarshish Great Britain’s colonies, of which the US is most prominent today. The fact that the lion is a symbol of the British Empire lends support to this view.

So who wants MORE TRUTH? Certainly not the HIRELING. In their case, they just have to pull stuff out of their dark recess ...
