Even the great FDR struggled — triumphantly — with it.Thank be to God, He has given man the abilities to subdue some of these hideous diseases.
Good but neither of my grandmothers ever had one of those. My mother washed our clothes by hand in large metal containers until lo and behold my step-dad bought her a ringer washing machine as in the picture. Even then all of the drying was done on an outdoor clothesline.
Again I guess I date myself. None of my grandparents ever had a lawn that they mowed. The one in the picture is the only kind of lawnmower we ever had. The mowing job belong to me and my brother. No allowance received ... but if we did a good job, lol, we were allowed to eat dinner.
This one sure was the truth with both of my grandmothers. My maternal grandmother died in 2003 at the age of 100 years and 6 months.Love.
Aye, my grandmother who died in 2003 at 100 years old had never had a license nor driven a motor vehicle. I think she gave thanks to God when she got her first telephone. She loved to talk with anybody about anything and the telephone made it an easier way to get in touch with anyone.Grandma didn't drive.
My dad ended up with my granddad's clock and now my sister has it.
My grandmother's toilet was not indoors and sat about 100 yards behind the house. They lived on well water which was heated on the kitchen stove to warm up the bath water. All of the grandkids used take turns using the bath water in a large laundry tub on the kitchen floor. An indoor toilet. We were still using the one at the bottom of our yard.
My step-father who grew up on the Azores Islands in the Atlantic Ocean always used a knife to eat his meat. He used the fork only to hold the meat while he cut it. He them used the knife to transport a small piece to his mouth. When there was bread [most often the case] he would use it to sop up the gravy or juices from the meat.Oh...okay. I seem to recall the adults instead used bread and the kids used their finger...lol
