hope you're not threatenen by the wild fires there. hope thing are better.

PICJAG.

They came down as far as the area I live in but did not get as far as where I actually live. Twice before we have had to pack the car with previous fires and wait to see if the fire was going to reach us. We could see it but fortunately, the wind changed just in time so all is well but those higher up the country are still in the thick of it. They think it will be months before it dies down completely.

Haha! Agree Kerry.

At least the sun is shining , yet no 'heat' from it.
Our poor furnace runs all day and all night too... It wakes me up, I'm not used to it kicking-in at night.

I would doubt that too many are visiting the zoo anyway today...
'only mad dogs and Englishmen' go out in this...
My friend forgot to plug her car in... ( -30 below ) so yesterday when she was due to pick me up...it was frozen solid ...she's had the battery charged...but it is still dead as a door nail... so looks like she'll have to buy a new battery now.

The wind chills are bad...north of us it is -40C ....with the windchill it is -50 below. We are not quite as bad as them.

Im always scared when Dave walks the dog...she won't wear the booties , she shakes them off. I'm scared of her pads freezing and splitting.

What do you have there?

When I lived in South Dakota we all had to plug in our engine warmers. Got very cold there too!

I just don't see how all of you do it. I had a sister who stayed bridgeport connecticut, and when she showed me pictures of just one snow storm, they couldn't find their car. man oh man

you have to be made for it. I spent 3 years in heidelberg germany, never seen anything like what you have.

but will keep you in prayer.

be blessed and have a warm day.... :p ... (smile).

engine warmers?, ok I'm down south, educate me.

PICJAG.

It was not unusual to see many heavy duty extension cords running from the underneath a cars engine (cords fed through the grill) and plugged into an outlet either on a porch or through a door. It kept the engine block of the car heated so as to be able to start your car in the very cold weather. I suppose this is the norm for allot of the extreme cold places. Kept my engine heated enough to start the car in the mornings :)

That’s insane.. how did people heat their homes in these areas prior to the advent of insulation?

Well, you learn something every day. Take all night to warm the car up then all morning to dig it out so you can go to the post office in the afternoon to pay your power bill.

Oh !!!!!!! I guess ,,,, the harder part was back when things were not so easy.

I remember having to go to the basement and shovel coal into the furnace ! Before the fire went out !
and then later taking out the ashes from there and carrying them out side ! Modern time, things have sure changed....... from my day's.
