One of the sons of Zebedee, his mother I assume was Salome, which in the Hebrew origin means peace and prosperity.

It was John the beloved who truly sat down at Jesus's right side at the last supper. It is not as man has supposed.

I was reading in MATTHEW this morning about when the sons of Zebedee came with their mother to Jesus and she asked that He’d grant one to sit at His right and one to sit at His left. When the 10 heard what Jesus said they were moved with indignation?

Yes, John the Beloved was the younger brother of James, the sons of Zebedee. He is the author of the Gospel of John, the Epistles of 1, 2, and 3 John and Revelation.

While the other disciples slept, Jesus brought Peter, James and John with Him in the Garden of Gethsemane to pray with Him (though they could hardly stay awake). Being the youngest of the three, I believe it was John who being with Peter, James and Jesus when Jesus was betrayed, was grabbed also and ran away naked. That is why that tidbit of information was recorded.

Prior to the gifting of the Holy Spirit none of them had any power.

Yet John returned to the Cross. Why? Because He knew Christ loved him. Throughout the Gospel of John, John refers to himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved. See (John 13:23, 19:26, 20:2, 21:7, 21:20) In (John 21:24) he identifies himself.

Interesting that the strength of our faith is found in knowing God loves us and not in our declaration that we love God. We are always like Peter when we declare our love and loyalty to Christ. But then when we fail, we have failed. But when we move as a Christian due to knowing that God loves us, when we fail, we know He loves us still, picks us up, and off we go again.
