Once again you are taking things out of context and misapplying Scripture. This has nothing to do with "we all were once enemies".

anytime someone is called out of the darkness into the marvelous of light of the gospel of Jesus Christ...while in darkness were they were an enemy and then no longer once coming in to the light? Is that not what is wanted? his enemies brought into the light for the destruction of the body of sin. Paul’s experience is an example. Jesus Christ asked Saul/Paul why he was persecuting Him. Anytime someone comes to Him and those things which were hidden in secret are brought out into the light ...is that not for His praise and glory ... Luke 15:7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

You are still missing the point. The Sanballats of today have made a deliberate and conscious choice to oppose God, Christ, Christianity, and Christians. As well as righteousness and truth. They have also undermined biblical Christianity within the churches of Christendom, and brought in a False Christianity.

Sanballat and his gang told lies about the people of God, resisted, mocked, ridiculed, undermined, and conspired against the people of God. And did their utmost to stop the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple. So if you have not studied Ezra-Nehemiah (which I have) then you should study those books before you say anything else. [Note: In the Hebrew Bible that is one book]

So kindly go back to my quotes about what Sanballat and his demon-controlled companions were trying to do, and then fit that in with the enemies of Christians today. Satan and his demons are trying to take control of everything, while they persecute and kill Christians today through the Sanballats all around us. Whether it is Communism, Socialism, Radical Islam, theological liberalism, Chrislam, or any other ideology, they have all chosen to oppose Christ. Indeed Islam was created to oppose the Gospel. Read and study the Koran.

sounds familiar, like their mocking Him, plaiting a crown of thorns and placing it upon His head, spitting, slapping, tempting Him to come down and save Himself, bowing “Hail, king of the Jews”. for his meat they gave Him gall and for His thirst they gave Him vinegar. Psalm 69:21They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Yet He said, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” (1 Peter 2:21-23) How much more “enemies of God” can you get? who oppose and mock as you said earlier angry someone has come for the welfare of the children of Israel? Nehemiah 13:2 Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.

how so? Do you not see yourself as once being a vessel of destruction whose end was destruction?

@stunnedbygrace, may as well throw in my two cent worth. all the post are good posts, but consider this. Nehemiah 2:19 "But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?"

well if one would look up what he was, or from where he came or reside or his birthplace, being a Horonite, it might shed some light on the subject. a Horonite is just another name for a moabite who reside or was born in the city of Horonaim in the land of Moab, see Isaiah chapter 15, especially verse 5. now what makes this place interesting is it's Name, or of the cities in the same area. reference to Nehemiah who was commission to rebuild the wall at Jerusalem, these cities was laid waste in prophecy, concerning the destruction of Moab, which the meaning was, "of breaking", of breaking down of walls and of houses. as rendered in the Targum.

you can find this in the commentary of Gill on Isaiah 15:5.

and you do know that Moab, from where Sanballat is from, and Tobiah the Ammonite was enemies of israel, KINFOLK., for the moabite, and the Ammonite came from the incestuous relation Lot, Abraham nephew, had with his two daughters. this can be found at Genesis chapter 19 verses 29-38

so Sanballat, as a Horonite was an enemy of the children of Israel. in morden day terms, they was in a "Family Feud" ;)

Hope this helped.

Far from it. Moab and Ammon were declared to be enemies of Israel by God Himself. And they are to this day.

Does anyone know what Sanballat means in Hebrew? I googled it and it said it means : bramblebush, enemy of God. But I looked it up in my concordance and don't see how they got that.
'But it came to pass,
that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall,
he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.'

(Nehemiah 4:1)

H5571
סַנְבַלַּט
sanballaṭ
san-bal-lat'
Of foreign origin; Sanballat, a Persian satrap of Samaria: - Sanballat.
Total KJV occurrences: 10

A satrap: a subordinate ruler, esp a despotic one.

I kind of have to chuckle that every definition of sanballats name that men have come up with fits...

When someone is called a name, because it is their name in the historical record, does it matter?
The way they behaved, and how others responded is the story, so I wonder why it matters what the individuals name was.

I have to chuckle, that this is a distraction from significant theological words, that have important definitions and what they imply to our eternal destines, and whether we walk with the Lord or not.

Imagine if your name, given to you by ones parents, determined you eternal destiny? That would be worrying, and I would quickly ask, can I change my name. Often people chose a "christian" name to mark their new identity. God bless.

Names in the bible tend to mean something. But if someone can't see it, that's okay.

I agree this is often the case, but does this apply to Sanballat? And if it does, does it give us meaning or a spiritual insight into the situation? I do not know, I am just wondering. :)
