Jesus had Peter actually walking on water with Him. But, it didn't last. Even 30 some years later, Paul had to chastise him for discriminating against fellow Gentile Christians when his Jewish buddies from Jerusalem came visiting. Just because God touches someone, doesn't mean they are going to respond to it..... maybe not at all..... maybe for awhile.... and then, maybe for the rest of their lives. Who knows?

But, none of that means God didn't reach out and touch them.
That's just it. It made no sense to my sister then or now. To her, it wasn't like getting a touch from God, she just winked out, and was on the floor. I think there was some power present, but I could never see how it connected to God.

I was so filled with Joy I began to laugh in pure rejoicing. That laughter didn't subside for about 45 minutes. I was not out of control. I could have stopped myself I think, though, since I was alone in my car for the next hour and a half, it never occurred to me.

But the joy was so amazing, so strong, so delightful, why would I not laugh? And laugh and laugh and laugh?

Yep!

How is satan supposed to work? Is it his aim to make people's faith in God even stronger? Is his goal to have them redouble their desire for God so that after experiencing some of these things you can't understand, that they are now twice as much in love with God?
By their fruits you shall know them. False teachers, that is.

As we see ourselves, false teachers destroy the faith of their disciples, take away their hope. Not build them in their holy faith.

Hey, that night 25 years ago was very strange and odd to me. And, to this day, I have never experienced "Holy Laughter." But, I have lived around and hung out with some who DID laugh. It was real for them, you can be sure of that.

Yes, I'm sure it was real for them. It just has not happened with me :(

I take to heart what Gamaliel said in Acts 5:39. I don't understand it either (just like you don't) but I am not going to take the chance that I "might be fighting against God" by trying to denounce it.
But it is incumbent upon you to discern from where certain practices receive their influence. It's called being wise as serpents.
In other words, if you won't denounce them, I will.
I will affirm that they are entirely influenced by the things of the flesh, which are related to the devil.
There is absolutely no edification in any of their practices, but it only leads to immature behaviour, and a lack of seriousness to the warfare that we are in.
With all the heresies out there, all the sins in the world, all the persecutions and martyrdoms, this is there resolution to deal with such matters?
The devil prowls around seeking whom he can devour, ...they're sitting targets, with absolutely no defense!

Judge them Willie, judge them harshly, for it's the Christian thing to do!

These are friends I had known for 10+ years. They were on fire for God, and had been for as long as I had known them, and are even more devoted to Him today.

This happened 25 years ago, and I still know most of them today. Many of them are absolute "God-Dynamos!" If that was supposed to draw them away from God, satan sure goofed. And they still remember that night as one of the most Godly experiences of their lives.

My Brother and sister in law too. I didn't laugh, but I did 'go down'.

I never really saw the point. And some did focus on that side (rather than on Him... at that time)

My granddaughters ,(aged about 8 and 10) and both my daughters were in meeting back then where the gold dust happened.
It landed in the palms of their hands during worship.
A young christian couple were there and it freaked them out...they left the meeting and went to a McDonalds .
When the young mother took her baby into the wash room to change its diaper , the dirty diaper was full of gold dust! Needless to say , they ran back to the meeting.
My grandkids told me that it didn't come off in the shower for about three days.

I asked God- Why, what is the point?
He just answered -" Because I can." So I shut up.

I guess people who we're never around early Pentecost get freaked out and run a miles. Nothing with God surprises me. In my time I have seem amazing things.

Those that expect to see God move, do..
...those who are sceptical and don't like anything out of the normal run of things ...that is just what they will get.

Nor to me. And I doubt it ever will for either of us. But, does that mean it isn't God?

No... never claimed that, even though I might have "liked" a post that did speak of it in that way. I don't ever think to limit our limitless God, EVER.

...Q

Isn't this subject all old news?

This was happening a couple of decades ago around the time of "the Toronto Blessing" etc etc ...

Has something new cropped up lately , that I have not heard about ?

Although not hitting the spotlight in the media presently in droves, we can never know if it is happening here or there. Here is a recent video.

Those who do not learn from past mistake are bound to repeat it.

Those who look for the reception of the Holy Spirit by a sign when the Holy Spirit is in them, may very well invite that phenomenon if not another kind to occur.

Ask Jesus for discernment and wisdom, Helen. Trust Him as your Good Shepherd to help you to discern good & evil by the scriptures in the KJV.

After reading that, Enow, all I can say is...……….. Well, I have no idea what to say, I am so stunned by what I read.

Ask Jesus for discernment and wisdom, brother, in testing all things by the scripture. Trust Him as your Good Shepherd to do this for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

And for everybody else that sees holy laughter as not of Him, pray for those that do not see anything wrong with it.

25 Brethren, pray for us.

Sure makes a mockery of God's people. I have read about this spirit before and, I agree...it is NOT from our very ordered God! Nor is it biblical
Instead of searching for all that is wrong, why not simply follow Jesus, who certainly is right, is He not?

Maybe, maybe not.
But either way we cut it...it is, and never has been "A Movement".

But I suppose it gives some people something to criticize , dissect ect, and then post about...which neither blesses, encourages, or does any good for man or mouse. ;) xx
In lieu of edification!

Indeed, as I believe it, people do receive the Holy Spirit and then do immediately or farther along their way quench the Holy Spirit. People never lose the ability to say no to God. It is certainly a foolish thing to do, but people have been acting foolishly since Adam and Eve.

@Enow, @Nancy do you believe what these people are saying?
I honestly thought that @Willie T was rebuking us for stating the obvious, how devlish that whole movement was, and that there was no need to even entertain the process, because it was blatantly absurd?
And now, each one of them @Helen is talking about gold dust showers, and @Willie T friends and others getting involved in laughing during the service, and how they believe that either, this made them stronger, or are unsure if it is from God or not?

Heresies, persecutions, heaven and hell, ...and this is God's way of strengthening the flock? Shame on you all!

I tell you something @Enow @Nancy , there goes the neighbourhood!

And I can only guess that you are also against dreams, visions, word of knowledge , healing and anything where God jumps into the life of the believer.

Okay..that fine, But why do you have to judge and sneer at those of us who do?

It would be tough for them to discern seducing spirits if they believe the Holy Spirit would also make believers do that. Signs of the times.

They are still our brothers and sister for why we should pray for them. We can only agree to disagree with them and hope the Lord helps them to see the truth about what they are involved with to depart from before the Bridegroom comes.

Paul said those who go astray and are disorderly are still brothers in 2 Thessalonians 3:1-7 but specifically in 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15
