I'm not much of a prepper but my friend and I have been thinking about this area lately.

He's more of a prophet/watchman and senses the need to stock up on food, other grocery items and store water.

Here's a question : If prophetic dreams become a reality, Would you be able to survive in an emergency situation with what you have in your home?

Remember you would need ~ food and means to cook and clean~water~warmth~clothing and means to clean, ~ first aide/ medical supplies, shelter and security/protection of family. Means to travel if necessary.

Why?
What do you imagine is going to happen?
What do you think the Bible says about this?
Should we let our fears about 'what might happen' govern our perception of what is happening?

Leaving in a city with several hundred thousand others, how long could one servive if a few thousand people realised there was food, medication in that house. Could you stop them?

Jesus did say don't worry, be overly concerned about what you will eat etc, your Father knows that you need these things.

That and my reading of the second coming is not one where prepared or at least Christian preppers would be able to escape any tribulation by hiding.

In this scenario, my take is to simply trust God for my provisions always...despite not being able to buy or sell. I would die of hunger or thirst otherwise as, the only thing I do keep in empty bottles is...water. No stocking up of all the other things...I wouldn't even have the room for it all, lol.
I will just trust Him as I always have, for my provisions. Not sure all that is biblical but, it's where I am at this time.

Psa 46:1 To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psa 46:2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Well, I'm not a Futurist, so I don't read Revelation as a crystal ball of doom. I expect that my life will be lived out in relative comfort and safety. Of course that doesn't mean that I can't see the civil war that is soon coming to America. But, I think I can handle that.

Blessing in Christ Jesus! You friend is correct. For those that are truly in Christ Jesus The Lord will lead and guide them in what to do. They need not be afraid. Destruction will not come near their tents(dwellings).

A little more of the context of your question needs to be presented before I could begin to consider an appropriate answer to your question.

What do you mean by your words, "prophetic dreams?" Who is having the prophetic dreams? etc.

You have asked for responses on a short "sound byte" and doing so if always fraught with problems.

Yesterday a policeman was crucified where I live by what was excluded from a longer interview because of people responding in ignorance to what they believed he had said which was further from the truth by the way the news item had been edited for public consumption.

Okay, so the question may not have been posed very well. So I'll try again. Would you be prepared for a situation that called for you to hunker down either at home [if you had to leave your home] or to travel?

Yes indeed, God is our protector and provider. My friend [prophet/ watchman] is getting unctions from the Holy Spirit's promptings to get prepared ahead of time in the form of supplies. He is not a prepper either but he does listen when the Holy Spirit tells him to do things.

BTW: If you have nothing nice to say, I invite you to kindly move on. Thank you

Hi Angelina!
I see nothing at all wrong with being prepared for these things. I suppose all who are able probably should. Right now, with what food I do have in the house would probably take me, a couple months maybe? It's not a bad idea as long as it's not something we would put our trust in.
After all, He already knows our needs and is always faithful. :)

Amen sister, at least you have the right attitude. I'm not sure how I'd go if the power went out for a few days for instance. I do have a gas cooker and could probably heat things up with that. We have some great rivers around my area and I have a few water tablets available...and I also have an array of candles and fire starters. ;)

@Angelina

The thread title makes reference to the book, The Lord of the Flies. I had to Google it to find out what the book was all about and found the following summary of the book.

The following is an extract from Lord of the Flies Summary & Study Guide Description: -

Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding, an English writer. The story begins when a group of boys find themselves without adult supervision after an evacuation attempt from a war zone leaves them lost on a deserted island. The boys gather together and choose a leader for themselves, a young boy named Ralph. However, it does not take long before Ralph discovers that it is much harder to be an adult than he thought. None of the other boys want to be told what to do. None of them put much effort into building a shelter or doing other things required for their survival.

Jack, who is Ralph’s rival for the leadership, is the lead hunter. Jack has become somewhat primal, enjoying the freedom of not having adults around to tell him what to do and how to do it. For that reason, Jack quickly becomes resentful of the rules and tasks Ralph tries to press on him and the other boys.

As a power struggle begins between the two dominate boys, the other boys become overwhelmed with fear. A young boy on the first day of their arrival told everyone of a beast he saw in the jungle before uniting with the others. This has spread fear among the children, especially in light of the fact that this young boy was never seen again. Therefore, when two boys spot something on the hill where they keep a signal fire going, fear spreads quickly among the young boys. Ralph proves himself quite brave in trying to find the beast, but the hunt proves unsuccessful.

In light of the newly arrived beast and the universal fear of it, as well as the struggle that has been taking place almost since the beginning, Jack becomes frustrated with the situation and decides to branch off on his own. Most of the older boys go with Jack. As a gesture of good will, Jack invites the others to participate in a feast with him and his group. Ralph attends, but he is shocked when Jack drives the boys into such a frenzy that they mistake Simon, another boy in their group, for the beast and beat him to death.

A few days later, Jack decides he and his group need a way to make fire. For this reason, they decide to raid Ralph’s camp and steal the glasses belonging to Piggy, Ralph’s most trusted companion. Angry at this theft, Ralph takes Piggy and the last two older boys in his group and confronts Jack. During the confrontation, Piggy is killed by a rock that was loosened and allowed to roll down the hillside by some of Jack’s men. Afraid for his own life, Ralph flees. However, he comes back to try to make peace. Ralph is warned by the two boys from his camp who have now been made a part of Jack’s camp that Jack plans to kill Ralph.

Ralph remains close to Jack’s camp, hoping that he and his boys will not think to look for him there. However, when Ralph’s two remaining friends are threatened, they turn on him. Ralph manages to flee to the other side of the island where he discovers the smoke has been seen by a ship and rescue has arrived. Their rescuer mistakenly assumes the boys have been playing a harmless game of war.

This may help with the implied context from the thread's title.

Shalom

I am not much of a prepper either, but I do kinda dig certain parts of it. I have a go-bag, and have some things in my car and around the house that I consider extra essential. I also hunt with a bow and arrows, and have a vegetable garden.

But I look at it two different ways: 1) God is my real salvation in such matters, my Savior; and 2) I believe that in order to be wiser than the serpent we need to exercise a good measure of prudence. Just as it is wise to prepare for winter and nightfall, etc., it would seem irresponsible not to prepare for things we see coming, perhaps all things.

Great topic!

Thanks @ScottA I have a go bag also which I keep updating. I don't have much of a garden this year but I'm hoping I can get out there more often as the weather changes. I can't hunt but I think I can trap if I have too. We have a lot of eels and trout in our rivers as well as native plants that can be used as food and also medicine. My country is dry at the moment due to strange weather patterns but normally is quite wet and rainy. Particularly in winter.

@Waiting on him. Please note that is thread is not a debate.

He feels that God is prompting him to get more supplies in his house etc.

Ideally everyone should be prepared for a major disaster or disruption of services. Chances are that very few people are. And if someone is of that mind-set, they would be better off to move to a location which they feel is relatively safe and live there, since travel in the middle of any disaster may not even be possible. In any event, everyone should be prepared for short-term emergencies.
