' ... But thou, O man of God, flee these things;
and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Fight the good fight of faith,
.. lay hold on eternal life,
.... whereunto thou art also called,
...... and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
I give thee charge in the sight of God, Who quickeneth all things,
and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable,
until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: ... '

Hello there,
Today, as I look in on the forum, the words, 'fight the good fight with all thy might', came to mind, and I looked up the quotation above, and at Paul's words written just prior to his martyrdom in AD67:-
'For I am now ready to be offered,
.. and the time of my departure is at hand.
.... I have fought a good fight,
.... I have finished my course,
.... I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
and not to me only,
but unto all them also that love His appearing.'
(2 Timothy 4:6)
* It is through Paul that we learn about the fight of faith, and about the armour that we need to put on by faith, and the need to stand (Ephesians 6). It is through him also that we learn about the enemy that we are to fight:-
'Finally, my brethren,
.. be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.
Put on the whole armour of God,
.. that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
.. but against principalities, against powers,
.... against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
...... against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,
.. that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
.... and having done all, to stand.'
(Ephesians 6:12-13)
* The enemy is not our fellow man: not flesh and blood; but the rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places. The spiritual forces that would keep mankind in the darkness of unbelief, or distort the truth, and take us away from the simplicity that is in Christ Jesus. Take away our confidence in the saving work of Christ, and render us weak and helpless before the lies of the enemy of our souls; who would have us believe that there are no certainties, that would prevent us from seeing the wondrous truth of our completeness in Christ. Denying the truths of God's Word, and of our standing in Christ, which is by faith. Claiming that all is about experiences, and feelings, which are fickle at best: doting on dreams and visions, instead of faith in the sacrificial work of Christ which is sure and steadfast, the foundation upon which we stand. Or, cause us to fail of the grace of God, by putting us under law, denying us the liberty that we have in Christ Jesus, by God's wondrous grace.
* May we stand perfect and complete in all the will of God, for His name and glory's sake.
In Christ Jesus
