Oh. So I didn't!

Okay, let's see which ones are quoted or reflected in the New Testament:
1. Loving God - yep. Jesus said it, and so did John.
2. Don't make idols - not loving God (as above)
3. Don't take the Lord's name in vain - using Jesus' name as a swear word - not loving God (as above).
4. Keep the Sabbath day - Christians do observe one day a week as a day of rest and worship.
5. Honor father and mother - Jesus said that we need to love others and do to them as we would have them do to us.
6. You shall not murder - murder is not loving our neighbor as Jesus said we should do, and it is listed as one of the works of the flesh in Galatians 5.
7. You shall not commit adultery - looking at someone with sexual desire is committing adultery from the heart, as Jesus said. Also listed as a work of the flesh that keeps a person out of the kingdom of God.
8. You shall not steal - this is failing to love our neighbor as ourselves, as Jesus said we should do.
9. You shall not lie - the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, so that lying is not only failing to love our neighbor by deceiving him, but we are also behaving contrary to the Holy Spirit in us. Also, lying about someone else (bearing false witness) is stealing a person's reputation from them.
10. You shall not covet - being envious or jealous of someone's possessions or position, is coveting, and not loving our neighbor as ourselves.

How did I do?

Paul C,

You are a bit too generic for me. The only Scripture you mentioned was Gal 5.

Here's my tabulated form but since it is from MS Word, the html on CyB may not like it.

It didn't like it. I'll try composing on my Open Live Writer that I use for my homepage.

Blessings,
Oz

Okay. Go through the Galatians 5 list and compare them with the Ten Commandments and see which Commandment is broken for each item on the list that would keep someone out of the kingdom of God. Galatians t is quite clear, no one who does any of the things on the list will inherit the kingdom of God.

I think you may know that the Ten Commandments is reflected in the New Testament but you might to want to admit that God might view you in the light of those Commandments, and you may not be fully aware of the extent of your sinfulness.

You see, when we get a good, clear view of our sinfulness and how hateful that is to God, then when we turn to Christ, our commitment to Him is much deeper. A shallow convert is not aware of their own badness and therefore what Jesus really went through when He suffered and died on the cross for us.

So, go through the list of the works of the flesh in Galatians 5 and see which Commandment each one breaks. You might be surprised at how the Ten Commandments is woven into the New Testament.

Paul C,

Let's try again to see if this is more html friendly. It is not working but placing the numbering of the 10 commandments vs NT Teaching one below the other. I'll now upload to my homepage and give you the link.

1. ‘You shall have no other gods before me’ (Ex 20:3)

1. ‘‘Of all the commandments, which is the most important?’ ‘The most important one,’ answered Jesus, ‘is this: “Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mk 12:28b-30).

3. ‘You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name’ (Ex 20:7).

4. ‘Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy’ (Ex 20:8).

4. ‘On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight’ (Acts 20:7).

6. ‘You shall not murder’ (Ex 20:13).

6. Jesus said, ‘You know the commandments: “You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honour your father and mother” (Mk 10:19).

7. ‘You shall not commit adultery’ (Ex 20:14).

7. See #6.

8. ‘You shall not steal’ (Ex 20:15).

Surprise, there is no grace for lawless and law breakers. Wait and see. Or find out now, through Christ; it will save you from having to find out later from experience.

Actually, the opposite is true, because the Scripture says that if we are saved by keeping the Law grace is no more grace.

But Jesus came to seek and save sinners; that means He seeks the law breakers and the lawless in order to save them, but the person has to see themselves as a law breaker and lawless before they will sincerely and honestly cry out to Him for salvation from the penalty imposed at the judgment to come.

If a person doesn't come to Christ through the stage of the conviction of their own sinfulness, they are trying to go over the wall to religion instead of going through the narrow gate of Christ. This is why the way to eternal life is narrow and few there be who find it, because it is very difficult for a person to admit that they they are not as good as they think they are.

the Scripture says that if we are saved by keeping the Law grace is no more grace.

This is no statement of Faith; it is the judgement, verdict and condemnation by the judge with no jurisdiction, you, his fellow sinner, upon the innocent in Christ.

Who wants to be saved by keeping the Law? WHY do you want to deny it me, that I am, saved by the grace of, GOD?!
Because I claim that I keep the Law? I do not claim or however imply that I keep the Law. You place words to the effect in my mouth; you accuse me falsely and I won't have it! By authority of the God that saves me I will not take it one day longer.
I am a transgressor of the Law -- the Law you may think no longer applies to YOU, AS WELL. Now you can shout and protest like you can, the Law of God is as eternal as God is He being his Law HIMSELF IN CHRIST JESUS.
It is not I who keep the Law, it the Law of God that keeps me in Himself! Hands off the Law of God his ALIVE AND MIGHTY LAW AND WORD. Touch the Ark of the Covenant and the God of the Covenant shall destroy -- YOU!

What this bit

Rom 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
Rom 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
Rom 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Rom 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
Rom 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet

And we see a Jew who understands, why is it you do not.

Whew! If I had any hair, I'd have a new part in it!

All I did was to repeat what Paul said about law and grace! And I got a salvo for it!

These South Africans have a very abrupt way of expressing themselves. Must be their Boer ancestry. If I was a sheep farmer, I wouldn't talk to my dog like that!

The continuing work of the Holy Spirit in me and the High Priesthood of Christ for me, is part of my developmental sanctification as I continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of God. It is the evidence that I am saved, not that I am continuing to be saved as I go along. When I am found guilty at the judgment, I will be able to present my title deed, and will find that my name is written in the book of life, and I will receive a total pardon for my sins, not because I ever deserved it, but Christ paid my "fine" on the cross of Calvary. It was written there the moment I gave my life to Christ.

This for answer to Brakelight the SDA?! Amazing, It looks like Brakelight the SDA's answer to Paul Christensen! I'm speechless.
