Hello everyone. I was curious as to what kind of bible you all are reading. I personally like to read my Life Application study bible and I also have a revised standard version bible. I also was wondering if the New King James Bible would be good for me to read because I have a hard time reading King James version with it's old English. What do you think?

That depends on what version of God you would like. Havnt you ever wandered why if there is only one God and one Jesus there are so many versions of His story.Mat 18:1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? Mat 18:2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, Mat 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. It doesnt matter how new you are to God and Jesus, its never too early to go to Him as a child and ask Jesus for the truth. In His love

My opinion has always been that the best bible there is is the bible you read. That said though the KJV is by far the most accurate, for proof just check out this amazing multicolored thread by Jordanhttp://www.christianityboard.com/to...ity/page__p__19621__fromsearch__1&#entry19621Of course there are other decent translations out there (New International Version, New American Standard Bible, Amplified Bible etc.) but they all take a big drop when it comes to accuracy compared to the KJV.your brother in christRyan FitzPS. then there is the message...........that translation cracks me up.

I would like to be able to read the King James bible because it's the most accurate translation out there but I find it hard to get the meaning out of what it is trying to say.

Hello JimmyThat's strange, I started out with a Oldé King James Version, it is by far the easiest version to read in my opinion. May I suggest you a scripture?James 1:5 - If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. It's not a matter of difficulty of the words. It is a matter of getting wisdom. Wisdom passes any difficulty in the words. There are some places where it can get hard to understand. I suggest you to ask God to help you. First thing to do. It is truly better to ask for wisdom than rather to try to figure it out by yourself.I also recommend getting Strongs Concordance for studying purposes.

My best bet would probably be to get a KJV study bible. This way I am reading the true word of God and at the same time if I have any trouble with understanding what I am reading there will be notes to help explain it to me.

P.S. I never read the bible before...which is why I have a hard time understanding it. But I am really eager to learn everything I can so I will not let that discourage me. Over time I am sure I won't have this problem.

you see jimmy what happened to me is I had a hard time reading the king James bible. Than this year I was foolish enough to take my highschools advanced placement lit class and I started to read Shakespeare daily. suddenly it didn't matter what I read I understood everything. so thats the key, just start reading Shakespeare, and stay away from all sharp objects

.but in all seriousness the most important thing for a new Christian to do is to read the bible, no matter what translation, heck I started off with the good news translation, it doesn't get much more watered down than that. like I said I suggest that you read the King James, but I more strongly suggest that you just read a bible, and get lost in Gods word.your brother in christRyan Fitz

I agree with what your saying. But I still think that if I am going to be reading and studying a bible it should be a King James study bible. Does anyone own a particular copy of one that they would recommend over others? When I look online there are so many different authors. I just want to make sure I'm not reading something with false teachings.

Just ask the Lord for wisdom in understanding His Word.If you use the other versions, read it with the King James. There are differences in the other versions that would put the emphasis on the believer or on the Spirit when the King James has it on Christ Jesus Himself. John 5:39-40 states that the scriptures are to testify of Jesus and so any descrepancy of that order is the reason why I rely on the King James Bible... thanks be to God in Christ Jesus.

I personally read the King James version of the bible. I think its the most accurate of the bibles i've owned and read. I also have a Living Bible i use to help me get a better understanding of some of the chapters i've read. One thing for sure...if you read the bible God will surly bless you with the answers you seek in due time. I pray for understanding and knowledge almost daily. I find i never read a book that i don't find something new i seemed to have missed before. I try starting my day off with reading my bible while i have my morning coffee.

I like Bible Gateway. Here I can get a multiple of verses from different translations and in that way God's Word can say what it needs to say not some false translation.

I like the KJV also Jimmy but don't care for the old english wording, for that reason I prefer reading the NKJV as the wording is that which we speak today, than I cross check the message or passage with that of the KJV and so far haven't found any defferances. However I have found a defferance in the NET bible. Where Jesus is telling Peter to forgive those who wrong him 70 times 7 times or 490, the NET bible says 77 times.
