Hi to all ChristiansWith regard to the bible is there anywhere in scripture that mentions anything about these so called entities called Ghosts and poltergeists ? I believe only in the word of GOD and only what the bible tells me and so far have not come across anything in the bible that claims these to be true existing. I understand that directors who create Hollywood movies need to encapsulate all the suspense and horror in order to make their movies profit at the box office, but in terms of actual malicious and destructive activity thumping, banging, and the levitating and moving of objects, all this unless the bible says to be true I believe to be completely false. However what I do believe to be true is the presents of evil spirits, demons who’s chief leader is Satan. These spiritual entities I understand are here to interfere with our sanity temp, harass, and accuse us of being guilty, Their mission is to win soles away from GOD. But still even these evil spirits can’t harm us physically because when cast down they were denied physical bodies, and as far as the dead are concerned the dead are dead and no more until GOD resurrects them. So is it right to say that all the occult strange like mediums, Psychics, Clairvoyance etc, are deceived when thinking they are coming in to contact with the dead when really it is evil spirits with whom they are coming in to contact with, evil spirits pretending to be the dead, hence Ghosts and poltergeists really don’t exist ? the only thing that can come in to contact and harm us physically are humans themselves ? or is there anywhere in scripture that could prove me wrong ?

In my opinion ghosts and polterguist are a myth, there are deomons wich are negative spirits sent by satin but the main thing to bear in mind is that as christians we have power over anything negative or evil in chrits name. As it realtes to mediums the bible is very clear on that matter as well:Leviticus 19:31 "Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the lord your god"Deuteronomy 18: 10-12 10 "there shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer" 11 " or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead" 12 "for whoever does these things is detestable to the lord; and because of these detestable things the lord your god will will drive them out before you" Hope i helped clear things up

I think there is truth in what you both say .... However in my opinion we do not know the shape evil spirits take there is much we do not know about the spiritual realm and its often difficult to separate fact from fiction ... The bible does tell us a few things one as Gumby points out we are not to have anything to do with these things... But if we are warned not to have anything to do with a thing ...Now as far as the dead being dead .... May I suggest you might read the of Saul and the Witch of Endore. She is said to have conjured up the dead spirit of Samuel. A medium (such as the witch of Endor) was a person thought to have the power to communicate with the spirits of the dead. (Isaiah 8:19; 19:3; 29:4) it would seem these ghosts if one wants to call them that are called familiar spirits in scripture.You will notice that in verse 15 of chapter 28 of I Samuel that the apparition appearing as Samuel addresses Saul in this manner; “why has thou disquieted me, to bring me up?, and, why then dost thou ask of me, seeing the Lord is departed from thee, and is thine enemy?”Here is a little on the Story of Saul and the witch if you want to read it .. http://www.christianityboard.com/to...__26851__hl__witch__fromsearch__1&#entry26851

My point was that these evil spirits demons who are now prevalent on the earth with Satan can NOT in any way come in to contact with us physically as in abuse or inflict harm upon the flesh... Rather they can only intercede with our spirits and try to get inside our heads with the intention for us to do their will (Satan’s will) which would eventually lead us in to demonic bondage.Interesting to think that if they can cause this much evil and chaos through out history just in spirit form, imagine what they could do if they’d been granted bodies.

I agree that when you filled with the spirit of God. You are protected God gives us power over Evil spirits We just order them away from us in his name However Satan and the fallen Angels do have bodies ...They are Angels..However you are correct they are not flesh bodies but can appear as flesh ..This written several times in scriptureIn Lots story Angels came to stay and the towns people thought them just reg. vistors to Lot.Jacob wrestled with and Angel all night In Gen 6 Fallen Angels mated with the daughters of men and their offspring were giants In Job we see Satan could walk upon the earth Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And in Isa. 14 we see Satan id called a manIsa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. Isa 14:16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, [and] consider thee, [saying, Is] this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

I know this is a complexed question but what kind of entity are these Evil spirits... I know we can't see touch smell or here them, so how is it they can temp us in to sin? Example, when eve took the apple how was it she was drawn in to temptation? What is their power of persuasion?

This isnt my subject so just drawing on biblical knowledge here I would have to say the answer lies our makeup We are made in the image of Christ he is a trinity and so are we ... We are made of flesh, which houses our true body which is soul/spirit we often hear this expressed as body,mind soulSpirit affects spirit Just the way when we accept Christ we become a New man ....physically we stay the same its our inner man/soul that changes ... When we open ourselves (inner self to these evil spirits or are not filled with the holy spirit they can influence us..We do not have a full understanding of how spirit reacts with spirit ...Even when its Gods spirit we feel it, react to it, led it lead us ..but we not fully understand how it works ...So it is with evil spirits...

Thanks Chris, yes this was a complexed question, but still very interesting. However another question I'd like to ask is about baptism, is it absolutely necessary that one must be baptized on order to receive salvation? Example, if a man had been god fearing all his life obeyed all the commandments and worshiped GOD to the end, but in his time was not baptized, would GOD not save this man?

Great question and you will get many arguments ...But as far as I am concerned Baptism of water is an outward sign it is desired not required ... One can accept God on their death bed and repent of their sins and they are saved... The thief on cross next to Christ was not water baptised yet the Lord told him he would be in heaven that day ... god judges us by our heart alone. I think people who are truly good heart belief in Christ in their heart but never opened a bible or stepped in a church will be saved... Yet you will get those who argue tooth and nail differently they will quote scripture saying you must be born of water. Well yes that's true ... Christ is our living Water..one dies without water in the flesh and in the spiritual sense one dies without Christ.... Another way to take it is part of nature, which is gods laws also he created nature and every single person in the world came from a bag of water ..You can not grow in the womb without it.So we are all born of water.. meaning we must born flesh and blood.Baptism of the heart saves you not baptism of water ...Water does nothing as I said desired not required now you will get arguments to the contrary ...don't let them confuse you with scripture lawyering You know in your heart that dying soldier on the battlefield accepting Christ with his heart is saved ...

musicworldYour question on this thread was whether there are ghosts or not.The answer is yes.We are not given much information but Jesus said ghosts do not have flesh and blood. He did not say there are no ghosts. Here is his quote:(Jesus Appears to the Disciples) .......While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." .......They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. Jesus said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."

Yes, the so-called "supernatural" or "paranormal" dimensions do exist. Ephesians 5:8-11 says we are to walk as children of light, proving what is acceptable to the Lord, having no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reproving them. Ephesians 6:12 should be enough to warn us that sorcery, witchcraft, and satanically inspired manifestations are associated with principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. Research has established that certain non-medicinal practices involving pharmacology can open doorways to "the dark side" such as voodoo and magic in which the natural laws of physics appear to be manipulated and directed for evil motives. Christians have spiritual armour to protect them, and have the Sword of the Spirit to use against dark forces. The battle is the Lord's and we join Him in victory. Hallelujah.

Men are appointed to die once then Judgment. Thats it....... they don't wonder around earth. What people think they see that are ghost are just demonic spirits that would love people to believe in that stuff. If you look at the Word in the tale of the rich ruler that went to hell (Paradise split) and sat across the great chasm from Abraham, you would find this rich ruler had all his senses, He knew where he was at, and he remembered his family. Ghost are not intelligent, they do not talk sense, they fade in and out so you just catch a glimpse of them. They were not people at all. It's all goofiness by Mr. devil. People get amazed when a so called Ghost of a loved one can remember things of the past......Whatever..... thats why the bible calls them familiar spirits. Devils know things, and they know the general population is not so smart.Now look at the case when the witch of Endor The Amplified clears some of the Hebrew for us.........1Sa 28:11 The woman said, Whom shall I bring up for you? He said, Bring up Samuel for me. 1Sa 28:12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she screamed and she said to Saul, Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul! 1Sa 28:13 The king said to her, Be not afraid; what do you see? The woman said to Saul, I see a god [terrifying superhuman being] coming up out of the earth! 1Sa 28:14 He said to her, In what form is he? And she said, An old man comes up, covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground and made obeisance.Now what is the problem? The Witch did not really intended to see Samuel. She saw something she never saw before. Why, because God was involved in this and God also gave Saul a message though Samuel. This is the only case of a real human Ghost we have, and it was terrifying to even the Witch that called on Samuel. So, people are not escaping heaven or leaving hell while waiting Judgment. If your anointed of God, and have ever been in places where people see Ghost you can tell right away the demonic oppression. Satan can't fool anyone. Remember, Devils are assigned to territories. Hence your ghost.Jesus Is Lord.

Was this truly Samuel Saul got in touch with especially since in scripture at Psalm 115:17 we read: “The dead themselves do not praise YHWH nor do any going down into silence of death. Is this scripture a lie? It says when a human being dies they can't praise the true God because any human being that dies remains silent in death.
Also other passages of the Holy Scriptures shed light on the matter. First, it is clear that what Saul did in consulting a spirit medium was a violation of God’s law. Both spirit mediums and those consulting them were judged guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:6, 27) God’s law to Israel stated: “Do not turn yourselves to the spirit mediums, and do not consult professional foretellers of events, so as to become unclean by them.” (Leviticus 19:31) “When you are entered into the land that Jehovah your God is giving you, you must not learn to do according to the detestable things of those nations. There should not be found in you . . . anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead.”(Deuteronomy 18:9-11; Isaiah 8:19, 20)

If spirit mediums could actually get in touch with the dead, why, then, did God’s law label their practice as something “unclean,” “detestable” and deserving of death? If the communication were with dead loved ones, for example, why would a God of love designate this as a terrible crime? Why would he want to deprive the living of getting some comforting messages from the dead? Does not God’s view indicate that people are not really talking to the dead but that a terrible deception must be involved? Scriptural evidence shows that is the case.

Against this background, consider the case of Saul. Regarding divine communication with him, Saul acknowledged: “God himself has departed from me and has answered me no more, either by means of the prophets or by dreams; so that I am calling you [Samuel] to let me know what I shall do.” (1 Samuel 28:15) Obviously, God would not allow a spirit medium to get around this divine cutoff of communication by getting in touch with a dead prophet and having him deliver a message from God to Saul. Then, too, during the latter part of his life, Samuel himself, a faithful prophet of God, had ceased to have any dealings whatsoever with Saul. Would it not be unreasonable, therefore, to conclude that Samuel was willing to speak with Saul by means of a spirit medium, an arrangement that was condemned by God?
Obviously, there must have been deception involved, something so unclean that spirit mediums and those consulting them merited the death sentence. That same deception must be behind claimed communication with the dead today.

So king Saul was a unfaithful servant of God who violated God’s command not to consult spirit mediums. He appealed to a medium, a woman who seemed to communicate with a deceased man of God named Samuel! But did she actually contact Samuel? No! She was, in fact, communicating with an impostor, someone impersonating dead Samuel. We have to remember that this woman described the person she saw and king Saul assumed it was Samuel.

That impostor was a wicked spirit, an agent of “the father of the lie” who's name is Satan. (John 8:44) Why do the wicked spirits, or demons, promote the view that the dead live on? Their goal is to malign God and discredit his written Word, the Bible.(2 Timothy 3:16)
