What is Christianity? The world's definition of Christian does not agree with the Biblical one. Nor does the Biblical one agree with many religious groups who call themselves Christian. The secular and widely used definition of Christianity is pretty much any group that claims the name or uses the Bible. The Biblical definition of Christian is far more restrictive. So many of those who call themselves Christian and are accepted as such by secular definition are in truth Christian Cults. A Christian Cult is a group that claims the name Christian, uses the Bible, and Christian words, terms, symbols, etc. but do not accept the core beliefs and teachings of Christianity. Their Christ does not line up with the Biblical Christ in example. Or they teach salvation other than the Biblical salvation, and so on for the critical and key issues required to actually being a Christian. Of course this results in arguments over who has the right to declare one a Christian or a Christian Cult. But any half knowledge of historical Christianity and Bible study quickly makes it clear who falls into which category with very few exceptions. Christian means “follower of Christ.” So if one does not follow the historical Christ they are not Christian. And their Christ is a false Christ. And if their Christ is false their teachings on the apostles and Christ will always be shown to be false as well.

The Christian faith has never changed, Jesus is the same, any change is, by definition heresy.A Christian is someone who has received the Holy Spirit because “Christ” or “Messiah” means “anointed one” and the anointing is the Holy Spirit. Romans 8v9 states:-“ . . . you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”So, it's vital to receive the Holy Spirit, but he is invisible and we cannot trust our own hearts that we are right with God . . ."The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jer. 17v9)(Jesus warns that many who call Him "Lord" will be told "I never knew you", he's talking about church-goers, not agnostics !). So, God must bare independant witness, the apsotles waited for this . . . In the new testament it is known precisely when people receive the Holy Spirit, and when they hadn't. The way of salvation hasn't changed. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit began to be given as never before, making people sons of God (see John 7v39, 14v17, 20, 16v7). The apostles reported:-“ . . . they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. . . having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has shed forth this, which you now SEE and HEAR. . . For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to ALL that are afar off, even AS MANY AS the Lord our God shall call.” (Acts 2v4, 33, 39)If you were told that what you could "see and hear" (the speaking in tongues) was the promised Holy Spirit, and that this was to you and all who God would call, wouldn’t you expect to speak in tongues, or be told if this was not the case? This is the "born again experience (compare John 3:6-8). Jesus says that without it, people cannot "see" (i.e. understand) the kingdom of God.Jesus will soon return for the faithful.I hope you at least try the original so you can see for yourself.

A Christian is anyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour. However there are many Christians who are also in spiritual slavery (as Paul puts it) because they refuse to accept the good news of God's grace, that he fulfilled the Old Covenant with it's religious obligations so he could establish a brand new covenant of grace for his beloved. As Christians, we need to live in the freedom Christ came to give us!! "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1 (In this scripture Paul is referring to the Law)

Christianity is made up of followers of Jesus, as Christianity was originally called "the way" (Act 9:2 NASB and asked for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.), and was eventually called "Christianity" by those who rejected the Way and the word became a pejorative term meaning "little christs"... in any case Christianity is, as I mentioned, simply those who follow Christ... but just because there are false Christians, it doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with the name "Christianity".or... wait... you weren't really asking a question were you.... oh well... this is just my 2 cents...as an aside, since the term "Christianity" does not appear in the Scriptures (the word "Christian" does, 2 times), for those who want to insist on every word used to describe our faith being found in the Scriptures themselves, does that make "Christianity" false because it is not a biblical term...? hmmmm.....blessings,ken
