Not sure what to vote, I definitely think nicotine is a different kind of addiction......I have never smoked, but my children have and my youngest is giving up at the moment, we have had quite a few discussions about the differences with other addictions. vapour, then again it’s not something I have done, so I am not sure whether it’s a worse kind of addiction, given that it is used in different way , some use it to give up smoking, so it’s the lesser of the two ( nicotine v vapour ) but some younger people who have never smoked take vaping up as an alternative and become reliant on it.
Coffee, well I love Celina coffees , but know I can go days without needing it, and I don’t crave it in the same may- if Costa isn’t open I don’t desperately want a coffee...........
Now I am not so sure about tea, which also has caffeine in it..........
So I know I would get withdrawal symptoms if I cut out both coffee and tea, which denotes a level of addiction .......

@Rita, Thanks! very good answer....so what you seem to be saying is that they are up to a point comparable, maybe 50/50....

The funny thing is that you don't tend to get too many Christians who "guilt-manipulate" ppl for drinking coffee or tead, but you do get some to choose to "guilt-manipulate" because of nicotine. (A bit like the "guilt-manipulating" thing with other areas such as tattoos, etc.)

Really I think ppl should stop "guilt-manipulating" altogether....

Hmmm not sure it is 50/50 , and I actually get the comments about smoking, it’s not really the wisest thing to do because there is actually no good thing about it at all............it hurts your lungs, makes your teeth go yellow, gives you bad breathe and is expensive.....and totally addictive - it’s a drug
However, because it is an addiction, it’s not that easy to give up, so if someone comes to faith who is a smoker , then it’s a matter between them and God ............as are the other issues.

I freely admit that I am a one a day cappuccino drinker. I have my own coffee making machine so I make it myself after lunch every day. Does that make me an addict? The answer is no because if I had to give it up for some reason (torturing myself) I would replace it with something else.

The other things are of no interest to me as I have never indulged so I am not sure that I am qualified to speak about them.

Thank-you, Sir.

I indeed accept your characterization of yourself as not being addicted to caffeine. It's interesting how other ppl will regularly be free in their application of the word 'addicted' when it comes to other ppl and, for example, nicotine. 'Addicted' seems to be one of those words with scientific relevance but which also has a popular/pseudo-scientific usage. For example, in Tampa, Florida there is a business called 'Addicted to Tattoos', offering tattoo parlor services: I would submit that the word 'addicted' can be used in a whole range of ways, or avoided studiously, as the case may be.

Hence the idea of the poll; there are likely to be many different views here.

They each constrict arteries. They each can cause SVT (Super Ventricular Tachycardia). I can't tell you how many times someone has come into the ED with SVT after consuming Caffeine, a stimulant. I have pushed a drug called Adenosine to stop they're heart...flat line for 5-10 secs just to reset it. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work like it should and then they go into a worse rhythm like V-Tach or V-Fib, life threatening. Then we have to break out with the paddles and give them a 200 Joule SHOCK (biphasic defibrillator)! They're whole body jumps off the table!! It can only get worse, maybe better, from there. :( Both are equally dangerous. Use in moderation is key. ;)

...I see no problems with any of these UNLESS we 'MUST' have some fix of them every day...I believe that only God should be the stimulant of our life not a caffeine or nicotine crutch.

But it is a private thing and and each must be persuaded in their own minds.

@Helen Thanks for your comment! Some Christians are strongly against coffee, vaping, etc. Others are not obsessively for them, but advocate moderation, if partaken of. Romans 14: "Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind."

How is caffeine comparable to vaping and nicotine?
