The Council of Laodicea of the 4th century outlawed the keeping of the Sabbath (Saturn's day) and encouraged rest on Sunday or the Lord's day. Christ, while observing the Sabbath, set himself in word and act against this absurd rigorism which made man a slave of the day. He reproved the scribes and Pharisees for putting an intolerable burden on men's shoulders (Matt. 23:4), and proclaimed the principle that "the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath" (Mark 2:27). He cured on the Sabbath, and defended His disciples for plucking ears of corn on that day. In His arguments with the Pharisees on this account He showed that the Sabbath is not broken in cases of necessity or by acts of charity (Matt. 12:3; Mark 2:25; Luke 6:3;14:5). St. Paul enumerates the Sabbath among the Jewish observances which are not obligatory on Christians (Col. 2:16; Gal. 4:9-10; Rom. 14:5). The gentile converts held their religious meetings on Sunday (Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:2) and with the disappearance of the Jewish Christian churches this day was exclusively observed as the Lord's Day or Holy Sunday.

Whilst much of your post is correct, your comment about the Council of Laodicea is misleading. The Council (or Synod) of Laodicia was a local council attended by about 30 clerics from Asia Minor. It dealt with some local difficulties (in this case Judaising). It was not a general Church council. It was not making new laws for the Church just restating existing ones.. The Saturday Sabbath had been abandoned tby Christians long before that.

This thread is not so much about the Council of Laodicea but more about the rest we find in Christ not a day. Originally Sunday was presented as the eighth day in an attempt to present this idea of a perpetual sabbath rest we find in Christ. Sunday is not a part of the law and the eighth day is not a part of the weekly cycle. Those who push Sabbath observance show that they are forever wedded to the law and those who push Sunday observance show they are wedded to an earthly worship of one day in seven when Christ wants our worship 24/7 not one day of the week.

To some extent I agree. It is good to worship God every day. But if we want to worship as a church we need to have a common day to gather.

I agree there has to be a common day of worship and Sunday is much better than the Sabbath with it's perpetual 'curse of the law' attached to it. However if our religion consists of trying to be good one day of the week and doing whatever we want the rest of the week than it's a vain and carnal religion that won't save. Christ demands a 24/7 commitment not a once a week commitment.

Romans 14:5
5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.

Amen Jesus! No Sabbath commands in the NT!
