Years ago I listened to a pastor speak about praise and worship services in church.....he said how most songs sang about Him instead of to Him and most of the time there was no anointing behind it.....that really resonated with me at the time so afterwards during praise and worship services I would change the words slightly...example....Bless the Lord, Oh my Soul, Bless His Holy Name....
Changed to Bless you Lord, Oh my Soul, Bless your Holy Name...
It made so much difference in my worship and how it became personal and intimate as I was singing to Him, expressing my love in song.....
And His presence would enter in and the anointing would fall and before long the whole congregation would be so engaged in worshipping Him that the entire church service was all praise and worship....sermon had to wait til next service.

I remember how healings and deliverance would take place without anyone praying....it was the presence and anointing of the Holy Spirit that healed and delivered those in need.
Oh how I miss those services.....I would look so forward to church because in our praise and worship He would show up....what a beautiful time it was back then.

I so agree with what you say and I think that is why hymns like 'How Great Thou Art' still have that anointing. So much of what passes for worship/praise these days is in fact more like prayer and focuses on our needs rather than on God.

I learned that from you, you know but I will not go the whole, hellfire and brimstone rubbish as you have done to me because it is in bad form.:)

Indeed. I think that some songs were first sung in the heavenlies and given to an inspired christian song writer who then shares it with others. Those are the Holy of Holies songs like Agnus Dei. Then there are the "God has changed my hardened heart" type songs. A testimony of the salvation of a soul like Amazing Grace. I love Christian worship of any kind and I love corporate worship most of all because the power and anointing of God shows up when his children worship together in unity and one accord.

I so agree....sometimes I would get angry then sad to see people on their phones or talking or not even singing....it hurts that people come to church and never actually worship Him.....and they call Sunday a day of Worship....smh....they don't even understand what that really means.

I feel the same, so many songs are sung about "us", and so very many about what is "wrong with us", and I've had my fill. I want to sing Scripture truths of God, and to God.

One of the more modern makes for a good example to me . . .

I've been waiting at the water's edge
Holding steadfast to Your promises
Even though I'm not there yet
I trust in You! I trust in You! (I know, Jesus Culture)

Taking a Biblical theme, making it personal, focusing me on God.

NLP - Neuro-Linguistic Programming is the science of how the words you use change how you think about things.

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God.

Much love!

That's some great advice there.

For some reason though, I just feel like asking what should someone do if they are not a good singer?

Say if someone is a musician in a worship band, but does not have a good singing voice, should he or she just quietly sing the lyrics? And play their instrument.

I would be interested to hear what other Christians have to say about it.

Hello

If we are not perfect, why should we hold back our worship for God. My father was a lay preacher for around 60 years, and he would sing off key loudly to encourage the small congregations in the churches he was scheduled to preach in, to sing unto the lord. But he always sung offkey.

I am sure that God hears the heart singing in perfect pitch, tone and enthusiasm.

Shalom

I don't have a good singing voice...but when I am worshipping Him in song it sounds beautiful no matter what.:)...(to me anyway, haha).

Okay good to hear haha, ye it's quite interesting, how our singing voices sound to our own ears, compared to other people's ears.

Hello there,
I received this in the post this morning in relation to 'Mary do you know'. I thought you may be interested:-

The expression ‘highly favoured’ is used by the angel Gabriel of Mary.
It occurs only one other time in the Bible, but who is it said of?
It may surprise you.You can find out by watching this 7 minute YouTube video.

You can use this url

Or you can go to www.obt.org.uk and click on the YouTube button on the right.
Then look for the playlist ‘Wonderful Words’ and then click on ‘Highly Favoured’.

Also you may like to the following Free Download: ‘A Study Guide to the song ‘Mary did you know?
Again, go to www.obt.org.uk and click on ‘Free Downloads’ and then on ‘Pamphlets’.

It is the fourth one on the list.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
