Hi I recently read a chapter in the bible and would like to add a post about it for it to be explained, but after closing the book I just can't find the chapter again, could anybody help ? It went something like this... Each one should remain in the place he was when GOD called him, was a man circumcised when GOD called him? Then he should stay circumcised. if he was a slave? Then he should remain a slave etc. Could somebody please direct me to the correct chapter or verse? Thank you Mw.

[/QUOTE] I believe the chapter and verse you refer to is (1 Cor.7:18) but when I read it I can't help but wonder how a man who has been circumcised prior to being called, can become once again uncircumcised, Even in this generation I would consider it to be a pretty tricky operation to reattach all the blood vessels involved to make him once again uncircumcised , I doubt if medical science could have had the technology to do so back in Paul's day.

Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."In other words, don't try to follow the precedence of the law that these legalists say. Our heavenly Father promised us the freedom that we have in Christ, and don't bind your self in the yoke of bondage Galatians 5:2 "Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing."Paul is telling them to pay special attention to what he is about to say. He is saying that if you are circumcised for the purpose of religion, circumcision will not profit you anything, nor will Christ be of profit to your either, for you have placed yourself back under the law. There is nothing wrong with circumcision, but don't do it for a religious reason. Do it for cleanness and health reasons, and not for any Spiritual purpose. Galatians 5:6 "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love." Love is the most powerful thing in the world. "Circumcision" that is done under religious beliefs has nothing to do with salvation. It is done to fulfill part of the law, so when it is done for religious beliefs, it takes you out of your "hope of righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ". This is why in the time of Grace that we are now under, all circumcision is of the heart

bigdummy;74252]I believe the chapter and verse you refer to is (1 Cor.7:18) but when I read it I can said:
I never took that literally. Pretty similar to Jesus saying - Lest ye be born again... It's not literal. Metaphor and symbolism, parables -are all throughout the Bible.:) Miss Hepburn

1 Corinth 7:17-24 Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. 18Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. 19Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God's commands is what counts. 20Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. 21Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord's freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave. 23You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. 24Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to.
Thank you so much for helping me find this. I've tried hard in trying to understand the scripture and what GOD is trying to say here but I'm unsure as to what context is he trying to explain it in ? Example, is he saying that if a man is born the way he is he should not try to change himself for anything other then what he already is ? Meaning if a man is born with a temper and is hot blooded he should not try to rationalize himself for he is what he is and what GOD made him ?

between 1 Cor. 17: and 18 Paul changes the subject from marriage to circumcision he is saying the same thing as he is Galatians I Corinthians 7:18 "Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.""Circumcision" is a "blood offering", and Christ became our blood offering. Circumcision in the New Testament has no gender, for it is of the heart Circumcision of the heart is the New testament teaching not and outward sign as in the old testament Galatians 5:2 "Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing."He is saying that if you are circumcised for the purpose of religion, circumcision will not profit you anything, nor will Christ be of profit to your either, for you have placed yourself back under the law. There is nothing wrong with circumcision, but don't do it for a religious reason. Do it for cleanness and health reasons, and not for any Spiritual purpose. It has nothing to do with being physically circumcised or not God could care less about your physical body being circumcised under grace .... We are judged by our heart ... Physical circumcision was a sign of Gods people in the O.T. In the New testament Gods people are those who believe upon him, believe he died for our sin its circumcision of the heart.

And also I might add how many more translations do we need to write in order to get the true meaning across? Take for instance Jesus telling Peter that you should forgive those who wrong you 70 times 7 and then coming out with a new translation called the NET bible that says Jesus answered Peter by saying 77 times , (Mat.18:22) I would agree that both sayings are figuritive and not literal but at the same time we confuse people by making a false statement in one of the translations, so that people don't know what to believe.

Thank you for your response Christina but I'm not sure i understud everything, are you saying the whole thing is about circumcision ? Could it not also be about destiny as well ? How about when GOD says... Each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. Meaning Mozart was a genius, Hitler was a mass murderer and Pharaoh was a king and that they had no choice in the matter ? Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. Meaning no matter what you are don’t try to change yourself for this is the position GOD assigned to you ? Each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to. Meaning it is your destiny, don't try to be peter when your tom. you can not change it ? The reason I'm particularly interested in this part of the bible if it does have anything to do with destiny ? is because i myself for some time have struggled in my ways in trying to change a particular area of myself in order to do right from wrong, and no matter how much i challenge it it still remains, so I'm assuming this is what GOD is trying to say here ? Of course i could be wrong ? I don't mean to confuse anyone here I'm simply trying to understand Gods word.

The basic thrust of 1 Corinthians 7:17-24 is that Christianity is completely consistent with all walks of life. You can serve God in whatever station God has placed you. This doesn't mean that it's a sin to change your station if the opportunity presents itself. Verse 21 demonstrates this clearly:
  • 1Co 7:21 Were you a slave when called? Do not be concerned about it. (But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.)

Nomad is right here and the circumcision is just more explanation in this same vain being circumcised for religious reasons means nothing, to a Christian our salvation is in Christ. Another words being circumcised/or a Jew wont make you one of Gods children .. No matter your lot in life even the uncircumcised gentile all now have their salvation in Jesus Christ

At the time some of the Jewish believers who where still babes in Jesus where trying to get gentiles Christians to become circumcised thinking that it was still a requirement. Paul was putting this thinking to an end.I think you have added meanings to the scriptures that are not there with personality problems. Of course people who short tempered and suffer from other personality defects should both seek to control themselves but even so Pray for Gods intervention within them thought the Holy Spirit to change them for the better. All Praise The Ancient Of Days

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
How beautiful it is to read this knowing that GOD truly understands our struggle, yet at the same time how inwardly painful in trying to over come it. The thing i hate most about my actions is guilt, i just can't stand to be conscious of it, which I'm sure is the big issue in us all.

We struggle and resist it out of love for the truth. But do not expect to ever "over come it". That is what God will do for us on the day of the resurrection when we will be remade once again good. God has forgiven all those who believe Jesus and that is why we can forgive ourselves and others. This is what brings us peace. The beautiful truth that Paul reveals in that scripture is that because we in Spirit love what is good and hate what is bad we are agreeing in Spirit with God and therefore in Spirit we are righteous. Of course like Paul we continue to sin and we do our best to fight the good fight with our carnal flesh. But it is not a battle we are expected to win. It is good enough to fight the fight knowing that the Victory is His and all boasting is His.:) We who believe are forgiven, and if God deems it right and good to forgive me then i will also forgive myself. I was going to send you a pm - but if this can help others - great.I has helped me very much for the last 37 years when I first heard it and it took months to have a lightbulb go off regarding it.It regards guilt. A wise man said, " There are 2 doors into the mind -the front door and the back door. The front door is pride and the back boor is guilt."In referrence to the mind being the place of doubt, jealousy, anger, desires, etc. What makes God happy? It's pretty basic. Our love for Him and us accepting His Love.Have you ever tried to give love to a guilty dog? When we are filled with jealousy, doubt, guilt, shame, worry ---can we accept and feel God's Love for us or is it stopped like trying to pet a scared dog.Or stopped when we want to hold our spouse and they are distracted with all of the above and don't want our touch. When our cup is filled with guilt it can not be filled with His Joy and Love.Yes, see our misstep - learn from it. Ask why did we do such and such and say - Alright, I won't do that again. But, "guilt"? Could Peter have done all that he did if he hung onto is guilt betraying Jesus ---we MUST know that in the very instant we are sorry, we are forgiven...and God's Joy can flow to us.Thus, fulfilling God's pleasure. :)

Adstar has stated the most important statement here read it carefully and consider it with your whole heart We who believe are forgiven, and if God deems it right and good to forgive me then i will also forgive myselfDo you see the importance of this statement ? If you trust that Christ died for your sin with a whole heart ...and you have truly in heart repented for your sin in his name you must forgive yourself as Christ has forgiven you ... to continue in guilt is not believe you are forgiven ..... Your own guilt will trip you up cause you to question and doubt ..... Its good to remember your mistakes and try to never repeat them ..but remembrance and guilt are two different things ....
