For all intents and purposes, the origin of the days of the week are meaningless. Wednesday was not for a Roman but for a Norse god -- Wodin. As were several others.
If you study astrology, how the names got picked start to make more sense. They even correlate to the seven days in Genesis. The thing about astrology is they use pagan names just we still do for the days of the week. Saturn was the god of time, thus governing the end of the weekly cycle. The sun governs the first day of the week -- when we see "light" first appearing.

Anything we can steal from Satan in honor of Jesus is okay with me. Easter we only think of Jesus; same with Christmas. Take That Satan! You're forgotten!
man, the sad part is that you are serious there wadr
Just what Satan desires. He cares not what we assert or deny about him. His interest is how he can get a person to pay him allegiance without knowing to whom allegiance is being given.

What you think you're stealing from Satan in honour of Jesus is not honouring Jesus at all......it's falling right into the trap Satan has set.....ie, worshipping him while thinking you're worshipping God.

And if you suggest that Sunday is not the day the NTC met on, it was Saturday, you are a heretic. I have just finished reading a book that gives the background to the NTC after Pentecost and every reference to a meeting was either in the evening for a meal or on a Saturday for a meeting. Not once does it mention Sunday.
i think we do have a first say of the week ref? Although imo that hardly makes a doctrine, seems to me that they were likely meeting every day of the week then?

I recently told how I treated every book of the Bible individually instead of accepting it all at once. I had a real problem with Esther for a long time. So far as I could determine, Jesus never quoted from it. That was important to me since if Jesus quoted from a book, it seemed to me he was approving of it. "God" is never mentioned in it -- at least not in the Hebrew original. The most troubling part for me though was how the names "Esther" and "Mordecai" seemed to be versions of "Ishtar" and "Marduk." The sevens in Esther reminded me of the sevens in the tale about Inanna (or Ishtar) going through the seven gates of the underworld.

No doubt about it that the Jewish calendar got affected by their sojourn in Babylon -- as you can see in the month named "Tammuz."

It probably took two or three years before the book of Esther began to fit with other passages in the Bible for me; and once I saw that pattern, it seemed inspired to me. Sometimes to be understood, we may use "pagan" words since that's what will be understood.
I have read Esther many times and never caught that....good observation!
I get what you are saying...I think the scripture that says we will be judged by every idle word we speak has made me extremely aware of the importance of words.
But our calendar is a worldly and so it's only fitting that the names used are worldly I suppose.

.....I suppose one could add a little humour by quoting Isaiah 53:3 talking about Jesus 'a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief....' and say he was a Sadducee.......hhhmmmmm, Sad u see. Some how I don't think that'd wash!
And the Pharisees . . . weren't fair . . .

Indeed, if we were to do away with and/or remove everything in our common language that could be related to something against God or for some other gods, we might find it impossible to communicate at all:

"Go to, let us go down, and there confound [confuse] their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." Gen 11:7

And yet Apostle Paul writes:

"For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." I Cor 14:33

Now is everyone reading this thread confused or are they "of peace"?

Give God the glory!

That is what the scripture says and what this book says.

Sure am. I am retired some days more than others. Some days I am just tired.
I am both tired and retired everyday... but it is always day and time to work until the night comes when no man can work [see John 9:4]

Hi H2S,
This is something I posted about a while back. Since the names of the days of the week were given for the Greek gods and goddesses, how do we know that SATURDAY is the actual Sabbath? God just said to rest on the 7th day. There were no "named days" then. So, if we work from Wed to a Tues. then that is the 7th day! We rest! Don't have anything to back that up with but...it kind of speaks to itself. IMHO
